About this property

Lake Front Home close to Nashville IN, Bloomington IN and Indiana University

Relive the 60's in our Strawberry Fields lake house. Nestled in the Monroe/Brown County hills on beautiful Lake Lemon. Serving families as a guest house since 2001 and was a residence since 1957 making it a very old lake house, nothing fancy! We love pets so bring your dog or cat or parrot!
Outside there is a boat dock and swimming/beach area, as well as a large yard and a panoramic view of the lake. Strawberry Fields is perfect for families and gatherings. It offers the ultimate in kid-friendly accommodations with its gently sloped access to the lake, and a large but flat backyard that is ideal for throwing Frisbee or playing croquet. There is a fire pit, a charcoal grill and plenty of chairs on the deck. Great place to watch the sunset!

This whimsical Monroe County getaway comfortably sleeps nine with a queen bed on the main floor, a queen, single bed and a trundle in the upstairs master bedroom, and a queen and single bed in the other upstairs bedroom.

It is conveniently located 11 miles from both Bloomington and Nashville. Note that after four guests there is an additional $7.50 per person charge. Check calendar for current prices, they fluctuate.
20 hours a week is spent on just this house cleaning, yard work, shoreline attention. We opened in 2001 and an average of $3000/ year has been spent on maintaining and improving property.

There is a shared dock, we might have our boat on one side and will come down to use it occasionally. The other side of the dock is available for a boat.
The outdoor pool listed is actually the LAKE! There was no way to check for lake.
We previously offered a hot tub but do not anymore, sorry.

Wonderful location

Very nice spot on the lake. The home has character. It's nice to be able to walk to the Port Hole and it's not a far drive to Bloomington.

Lake Lemon Stay

Great location and home. No hot tub as listed, not cleaned well, ceiling in kitchen leaked water when it rained. I cleaned everything I touched basically but this house would still be amazing for a low key summer break stay with friends to enjoy the lake.

Well let me start with arrival, as stated its a older home which i agree with. We have no problem with that but an older home can be clean. My wife cleaned the outside furniture where we sat, the porch where ping-pong table is,she swept the ceiling which was covered in spider webs and dust. The inside the floors were clean, the walls where stuff is hanging has dust on them, old stuffed animals and pictures. The dishes in cabnets we found spider webs. We washed everything before we used them. We slept downstairs which was ok, but the ceiling fan was covered in old black dust. The ceiling had dust balls on it(we didn't clean it because we didn't want dust all over the bed) and the windows could not be looked out for the grime on them. The bathroom has older mickey mouse wall paper that is falling down, found someone else's hair on the towels (i found two long brown hairs on them) we used only two towels and wash cloths to take three showers, due to the others looked ol and dinge. We basically stayed in only three rooms. The outside, horse manu was laying in flower beds, weeds everywhere, the kayaks were in a cage with stuff laying on them and chipmunk nest in them.(I text owner if i should bring our before trip, owner said had one nice kayak and others were older) I had to dig through paddles to peace two paddles together, all broken. Said screw it when chipmunk came out of kayaks. We contacted VRBO our first night with pictures of everything i typed here. Vrbo contacted

Great lake house

We came down to this property for a little girls weekend. It was amazing! We got to ride in The Kayaks and take our dogs down to the lake to swim. It was a very comfortable home to stay in. Definitely a true lake house and a wonderful place to visit. The owner was very friendly and wonderful to work with, definitely plan on coming back year after year

Great Lake Access

We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Be aware you must recycle all your trash, sweep and vacuum before you leave and the upstairs was hot. We bought fans and yard guard. The home has decades of deferred maintenance but my family thought it a great value. Nothing fancy - just a beautiful lake. Owner watches you from neighboring properties and does drive bys.

Fun trip

Had a fun couple nights away from home. Property is tucked away and secluded which we enjoyed. Things could have been cleaner. We found quite a few trash related items while cleaning before checkout that were not ours. Children’s outdoor toys and recreational items were not cleaned. Very rustic old cottage feel and experience. We had a lot of fun. We would stay again despite all of these things.

House was not clean, a lot of insects and we found mice poop too. There spider webs , dust, and dog hair in every room . The bathroom and kitchen was not clean perfectly. The house has an amazing view but windows were dirty. The outside of house is dirty too. We didn’t go for cleaning but we had to clean fridge and bathroom before using it. Unfortunately we couldn’t sleep well as we found alive spiders on beds. Having one bathroom for 5 people can be challenging too. Ping pong table is good but again, surrounded by spider webs. Some areas smell fungi. The red Kayak was nice but again everything has spider webs. In general we had to clean everything we used to be sure to do not get sick. If you like clean environment and protect you health, look for something else. The owner is nice but she didn’t refund any cleaning fee and gave excuses and apologies but not enough to make our trip better. We think we will come back one day to Lemon Lake but not there. I have a lot of pictures and videos to proof. Contact me if you need them.

Great place to unplug and relax!

We had a wonderfully relaxing time at the lake house. Lots of fishing, room for the dog to run and plenty of room for the four adults. Being familiar with having tenants, people are slobs and it showed in places: splattered food on the walls that they should have wiped up, pans with grease on them and a couple plates in the cupboard that still had pancakes and syrup all over them. That is beyond what any person should leave behind when renting someone else’s place - bet they don’t do such things at their own home. We went to the house knowing it would not be the ritz - lakes are dirty. Kids are dirty. Animals are dirty. Expect it! We watched 4, count them - 4 - spiders make webs on a single window in under two hours. You’re in nature and followed other humans who have no regard for their own cleanliness, and no qualms about leaving messes for others to clean up. We are a Girl Scout family and left it cleaner than we found it - that is our way. Would definitely rent again! Thanks, Sura!

I will start by saying it is lakefront with a beautiful view. That is where the positives end. The property is rustic at best- parts of it are literally falling down and it is surrounded by discarded and decaying objects. We thought it was abandoned and had the wrong address. Inside there is peeling wallpaper, an unsecured granite countertop and open electrical receptacles. The owner, while nice, cleans herself and should charge a cleaning fee to deep clean it before anyone ever stays there. There are dusty Knick knacks everywhere (stuffed animals, chinz) and loads of bugs & cobwebs. The towels were all stained. Old soap bars were in the shower and old food was in the liner less garbage. I had to hose it out because the smell was awful. If I had another alternative we would have left. I wish I had photos- no one would believe how incredibly filthy and ill kept it was.

This house definitely comes with a love for family and the environment. Little notes from the owner and signs - the "hippie" ones are my favorite - to enjoy your stay whilst also giving nod to Mother Earth. The house is super clean and your backyard is the lake which is amazing. The house is not modern, the linens are fresh and clean but remnants of "another time" and so is all the decor... So if you're looking for upgraded this, and fancy that, this is not your place. The photos are exactly what you can expect so look closely. If you're looking for a cozy spot - amazing views and lake front, you'll love it. We kayaked, fished off the dock, swam in the lake... it was great. "Town" is about 15-20 min away - easy drive to/from. A/C worked great! Plenty of space for sleeping, resting, game room, dining room table, etc. And not a single bug was inside the house. AND DON'T BE SCARED OR SWIPE THE SPIDER WEBS OUTSIDE. They are natures miracle and as scary as they might look - they are wonderous at capturing allllllllll the night critters that fly at night (mosquitos, gnats, etc.)

Great location but bad management

This property has a ton of potential but no care is taken for guests. The house was dated and we knew this from reading reviews but the cleanliness was horrible. Shame on us because there was some mentioning this but , wow . The normal bugs in a lake house is exceptable but when we saw roaches this was our breaking point of dealing with this rental. We are a family of six and can tolerate a lot but this was the first time ever that our whole family was happy to go home from a vacation , kids actually wanted to leave early. We dealt with it because we really didn’t have a choice. This was one of the most disappointing vacations we have taken. Also reviews are not my thing and neither is complaining but I just couldn’t let this go. Do not spend your hard earned money here. Maybe spend a few bucks more , I wish I did!

Family wedding on Lake Lemon

First things first-we LOOOOVE this little house. It’s charming and inviting and the absolutely perfect views and location. We had our daughter’s family which included our 9 & 10 year old grandsons with us the first night and they explored and played ping pong for HOURS! The second night we only had our 2 year old grand daughter and she explored and played with all the toys, and on the swing set. She did not want to leave. There were games and tv with several channels and a dvd player with a lot of movies. The AC was great and the beds and pillows were very comfortable (all 3 queen sizes were great) The 4 star rating for cleanliness is because much of it is dated and many of the dishes (washed by previous guests we’re assuming) were dirty and placed randomly in cabinets. We own a cabin and love it, this place feels more like that than a spic n span lake house. We prefer this however one of our guests didn’t stay. Because of it. If you’re wanting fancy, spotless place, this isn’t it. If you’re laid back, want cozy and great views with reasonable prices and walkability to a super cool bar/resturant, this is it! We even watched the IU rowing teams practice! Love it here!!

It was okay

The house and property were nice with the water front but as we were there, the owner of the house kept popping up During our stay conversating and having an Attitude And then on the day of departure was 11 o'clock. And the owner was there at 9:30 in the morning. Watching us as we were cleaning up. Then also One of our friends we're walking on the deck and fell through As many things of this property were very old and not well maintained. We had fun but I would never stay there again

About the host

I moved here January 1984 after growing up at a lake 10 miles from the White House and was happy to find this unknown lake, almost abandoned and no one valued it. I started buying land and houses in the area, hanging onto them and slowly remodeling them.I have worked extremely hard to keep these houses and I continue to work hard keeping them going along with 4 other full time rentals and my mini farm and 34 acres of mostly wooded land. My partner found me in 2020 and he jumped right in to help maintain and improve it all!

Why they chose this property

I live near by and wanted a place to park my boat and swim so I use this house when guest are not there . I do go get my boat sometimes.

What makes this property unique

There are very few houses on this lake for rent and this is the only one with a great swimming area. It’s only 10 miles from IU and Bloomington and 11 miles from Nashville IN. I DO ALLOW LIMITED PETS, 2 dogs, more on request
