Ecollacta - Two Elegant Homes in Exclusive Ecological Property

I. GENERAL INFORMATION:

Ecollacta has been described as a paradise by everyone who has visited it.

It is ideal for short-term or long-term visits to relax away from civilisation while less than 2 hours drive North-West of Quito. Ecollacta offers a peaceful and private stay in the Andes Mountains in the comfort of 2 large elegant homes with 360° views over the cloud forest.

The 95 hectares (230 acres) property is located between the towns of Nanegalito and Nanegal, in the well-known birds region of Mindo, passing by the Equatorial line and enjoying a spectacular ride through the Andes Mountains.

The property shares a 1.5 km (1 mile) river border with the Maquipucuna Reserve.

The year-round temperature varies from 18 °C to 26°C (64 °F to 78 °F).

The altitude is 1300 meters.

Safety. Per some of our guests' inquiries, we have decided to add the following information:
Ecollacta is located in a quiet and very safe area. The property has two entrances. At one entrance is the caretaker's house and we stay at the other entrance. The guests' houses are on a hill in the middle of the property about 700 meters from each entrance.

II. HOUSES' INFORMATION:

Both houses are built mainly with wood, which gives them an aspect of chalets. They are 300 sqm (House # 1) and 200 sqm (House # 2).

House # 1:

Capacity for 6 guests.
2 bedrooms with queen beds, and their private full bathrooms.
2 additional single beds in the upper deck area, which has plywood separations to keep private.
One half bathroom.
Fully equipped kitchen - with fridge, oven, microwave, blender, toaster.
Washing machine.
Terrace.
Fireplace.
BBQ.
Satellite TV.
WIFI.

House # 2:

Capacity for 6 guests.
2 bedrooms with queen beds, and their private full bathrooms.
1 bedroom with one double bed and one single bed, in the upper deck area, which has plywood separations to keep private.
1 half bathroom.
Fully equipped kitchen - with fridge, oven, microwave, blender, toaster.
Terrace.
BBQ.
WIFI.

The total capacity is for 12 guests (including children of all ages).

Guest houses are located at the centre of the property, at the top of a hill, and are separated by a 40 m (130 feet) walkway.

This unique location in the property as well as the houses architecture offer 360 degrees breathtaking views over the mountains, the forest, and the rivers.
It also allows bird watching from anywhere inside the houses and from their terraces.

III. ACTIVITIES & DAY TOURS:

The year-round temperature varies from 18 °C to 26°C (64 °F to 78 °F), which makes it ideal to enjoy the many activities available at any time of the year:

1. Swimming in Ecollacta’s private river. 15 minutes walk from the guest houses.

2. Bird Watching inside the property: 244 bird species thus far officially registered at Ecollacta.

3. Hiking the “Walk of the Incas”, a 500-year old historic Inca trail which borders the estate.

4. Bird Watching Tour #1: Guided bird watching tour in the Maquipucuna Reserve (which borders Ecollacta). Meeting time is usually 6:15 AM at a 20-minute walk from the guest houses. Upon request, we can help our visitors by contacting them to confirm guide availability and price.

5. Bird Watching Tour #2: Visit to the Cock of The Rock bird (“Gallo de la Peña”). 45 minutes drive from Ecollacta in Mindo’s direction. It is recommended to be there at 6:00 AM. They also offer guided bird watching tours. Similarly, upon request, we can help our visitors to make contacts to confirm availability and price.

6. Day Visit #1: Mindo Village. 1 hour drive from Ecollacta. Activities include: visit of the butterfly garden, chocolate factory tour, horseback riding, as well as sporting activities such as tubing, rafting, canoeing, and ziplining.

7. Day Visit #2: Tulipe Museum. 45 minutes drive from Ecollacta, in Mindo’s direction.

IV. LOCATION & NEAREST MARKETS / RESTAURANTS:

Ecollacta is located less than 2 hours drive north-west of Quito, between the towns of Nanegalito and Nanegal.

Quito International Airport located at 2h15 minutes drive.

- The nearest markets and restaurants are in Nanegalito, 30 minutes drive from Ecollacta. Nanegalito is a small town, there aren't supermarkets, only small stores, you can still find pretty much any you will need (meats, wine, sodas, vegetables, etc).

- Santa Maria supermarket at Mitad del Mundo, 1h30 minutes drive from Ecollacta.

- Megamaxi supermarket in El Condado, 1h45 minutes drive from Ecollacta, at Quito's exit.

V. TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION:

The last 2 Kms (20 minutes drive) to Ecollacta is an unlit and unpaved rural road composed of gravel and stones.

Sport Utility Vehicles and Pickup Trucks are recommended for the last 2 Km to Ecollacta. (4x2 is fine).

Sedans and Vans are not recommended for the last 2 Km to Ecollacta.

If you are travelling with a van or sedan: you can park it at our neighbour's property at the 2 Km mark (in a secure gated parking, free of charge). This option is only available up to 5 PM daily.

We offer one round-trip per stay from-and-to the 2 Km mark with our vehicle to take up to 4 people.
If more trips are needed, we will arrange for pickup taxis to meet you at the 2 Km mark, rates are around 15 dollars each way; each taxi can take up to 4 people.

If you are travelling by bus: there are double cabin pickup taxis available in Nanegalito (30 minutes drive from Ecollacta), rates to and from Ecollacta are around 15 dollars each way; each taxi can take up to 4 people.

We can arrange all third party transportation upon request, including to and from Quito airport.

VI. CHECK-IN and CHECK-OUT TIMES:

Check-in time starts at 11 AM.

Due to road conditions (unlit and unpaved last 2 km rural road to Ecollacta), we recommend to check-in during daylight hours before 5 PM, as it gets pitch-dark at night. Once you get to know the road once, you will be able to travel back and forth at anytime with ease.

Check-out time is 2 PM.

VIII. PETS:

We accept a maximum of 2 pets. We do not require a pet fee, we ask our guests who bring theirs pets to not let them go on top of the furniture, pillows, and blankets.
