About this property
Luxurious Stone House with a Fabulous Sun Terrace and Stunning Panoramic Views
Situated on the beautiful Canal du Midi, Mountain View is a charming 13th century village house with a fabulous sun terrace and stunning panoramic views over the Alaric Mountains and Languedoc vineyards.
A beautiful stone spiral staircase leads into the bright, open-plan living and dining area and step through any of the three sets of French doors to the fabulous private south-facing terrace: an ideal spot for sunbathing, relaxing and summertime dining.
The house boasts a large, fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine, and the lounge has comfy sofas with Sky TV and Wi-Fi Internet.
There are three spacious bedrooms and two full bathrooms accommodating 6 guests comfortably and we include good quality bed linens and towels in all our rental rates.
There is a fabulous bakery and mini-mart in the village, perfect for fresh bread and pastries in the morning and basic food provisions. Within a few minutes’ walk you'll find a friendly terrace bar serving drinks and basic lunches and a nice hotel restaurant serving more gourmet lunches and dinners. A mobile pizza van also stops in the village twice a week.
In the nearby town of Trebes, just an 8 minute drive away, you will find a choice of 5 restaurants and all amenities including 3 supermarkets, chemist, doctors, post office, banks and a tourist info office.
Local Information:
The house is located in the village of Marseillette on the border of the Corbieres and Minervois wine regions, so there are plenty of opportunities to take a guided wine tour or to simply visit local producers to taste and purchase excellent local wines.
Just 15 mins away is the medieval Cité de Carcassonne, a Unesco heritage site and an absolute must-see! 52 towers and two rings of fortified walls surround a bustling town with small, narrow cobbled streets lined with restaurants and boutique shops.
The beautiful Canal du Midi is just a 5 minute stroll from the house. You can take a guided cruise or hire your own boat by the hour, day or week. The tree-lined canal tow paths are great for cycling due to the flat terrain (6 bikes available for hire) or try venturing down the Etang de Marseillette behind the Canal to take a beautiful evening stroll on quiet roads lined with sunflower fields, apple orchards and vineyards.
The area around Languedoc is steeped in history; you can visit hilltop Cathar castles, circular villages, beautiful abbeys, cathedrals and historic market towns or just take a drive through picturesque nearby villages and stop to wander around the different local open-air markets and village fetes. For the DaVinci Code aficionados, consider exploring the exciting mystery of the Rennes le Chateau and the Knights Templars
Mediterranean beaches are about a 40 minute drive but there is also a lovely, safe swimming lake with a sandy beach just 15 minutes away. Climbing, walking and hiking are also all popular activities around the area, as well as canoeing, kayaking and fishing along the river Aude.
