About this property

Log Home with view of Denali and aurora, gas fireplace and toasty heated floors!

Whether traveling to Fairbanks under the summer's midnight sun or winter's aurora borealis - you will find this lovely setting an amazing base for your interior Alaskan vacation.
This beautiful 3,000 sqft natural log home was built almost entirely from the white spruce trees that grew on the property. The original owner cut, hand peeled, and allowed the logs to dry. He then contracted a premier log home builder to hand scribe each log to fit into place in 1990. The log detail is a thing of beauty. It has that rustic, homey feeling that only log homes can give. It is well appointed with Alaskan art and artifacts.
This premium log home offers views of the Alaska Range and Denali from the inside loft or while relaxing on the grand outdoor deck while grilling your favorite Alaskan seafood. During dark, clear nights enjoy stargazing and the excitement of the aurora borealis unobstructed by city lights from either inside or outside this authentic Alaskan home.
The large, open upstairs loft bedroom can sleep four. There is a queen-size bed and also a pair of twin beds. Please note the set of twin beds are accessed over a low log wall using three stairs on each side of the log wall. This offers some privacy from each of these adjoining sleeping spaces in the loft. This is a popular place to sleep and brings out the child in all my guests.
The two downstairs bedrooms in the walk out basement, each have queen-size beds. These downstairs rooms offer even more privacy as they are separated by a hallway that leads to an outside door leading to the beautiful lawn and lower patio. All the bedrooms have lovely views and are accessed via stairwells. There are blackout blinds in the sleeping areas. There is a bathroom conveniently located on all three levels. The laundry and shower are located on the ground floor bathroom. There is a half bath on the main floor for your convenience. The loft has a full bath with a jacuzzi tub/handheld shower in the upstairs loft bedroom. This bath area is open to the loft area and has a curtain for privacy.
There is a spacious eat-in kitchen and also a huge formal dining area that seats your group comfortably. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, cooking utensils, many spices, and other basic essentials. Dutch oven, waffle iron, griddle, crock pot, mixer, blender, ice bucket, coffee makers(drip and Keurig), coffee presses, pressure cooker, InstaPot, seafood pot, and bakeware all lend you a hand while preparing those delicious meals. The stove is gas with four burners and a center griddle.
The sitting area near the gas fireplace is the most popular place to read, while the downstairs family room has a 60" curved "Smart" television available for your viewing pleasure. You can view your streaming accounts on the TV or stream on your personal devices in your room. Fastest WiFi available. There are also books and DVDs in the family room and games and puzzles available.
The keyless entry makes access convenient and there is no worry over lost keys or late arrival times.
Off street parking is plentiful and has headbolts for winter guests to plug in their vehicles when the weather drops to subzero temperatures. The drive is maintained and snow cleared. Front wheel drive or all wheel vehicles are fine. Some people prefer 4WD in the winter.
I believe the peace and tranquility that guests enjoy while staying at this vacation rental comes from the "groundedness" of the home being built from truly local logs. It can't get more organic than that!

Dream Cabin

This was my first time staying in a cabin and it was so beautiful! It was way better than I had imagined and it had so much space! There are 3 floors with the middle floor being the main floor with the kitchen. It has a large balcony with a beautiful view of forests and mountains in the back. The living room is located on the bottom floor with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with laundry machines. There is even a sauna! The top floor have the master bedroom with another bathroom and a jacuzzi. The location was perfect for viewing the northern lights because we were able to see it from right outside the front door. Our host, Kathy, was very kind and so helpful throughout the stay. Even before we arrived she gave us a warning about the icy road leading to the cabin that were still present. Thank you Kathy! I would definitely stay here again!

Best view of the aurora

Here for 8 nights in early March without any previous aurora experience but caught them 6 nights (snow two nights). It is very dark here with minimal sky lighting from Fairbanks. In fact, our best aurora pics were during a full moon. Well-appointed, everything you could possibly need. Washer, dryer, all other appliances top notch... and the dryer was fast. Lots of towels. Furniture is very comfortable. The view is excellent with a clear view of Denali a few days. Plenty of moose tracks, black squirrels... and Kathy showed us Ring camera pics of a moose crossing the driveway. Kathy is a good communicator and was very helpful in providing aurora and travel/tourist advice.

Tranquility in the woods

The house was beautiful and very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting out on the back deck looking out at the Alaska range in the distance. It was very relaxing. The house was also very comfortable with multiple comfortable seating areas and a well stocked kitchen. The perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.

Fairbanks Fun

This log home was gorgeous and wonderfully decorated. It is spacious and homey at the same time. The kitchen has all the appliances you could want. There were so many cozy places you could curl up on your own or hang out as a group. Kathy was a great host and because we came in on a day with very high winds and rain she had the place set up in case of a power outage. We appreciated her attention to detail.

Unbelievable View of Daneli

Beautiful property, very spacious, and beautifully decorated. Very well stocked with everything a person may need. Kathy, the Best Hostess! We were 5 adults, house is 3 stories, lots of privacy. Lovely deck and the view of Daneli, was breath taking from back of house. Kathy brought us over delicious fresh baked muffins the first AM. We loved our stay, 1 wk, and we will definitely be back. Thanks Kathy❤️

Warm and relaxing stay in a winter wonderland!

Our family has stayed in this beautiful home once before in the summer time. This year we went up to spend Thanksgiving with family in Fairbanks. The home is absolutely beautiful and full of everything you could need. The home is very spacious with plenty of room for everyone to enjoy. The wood fire was delightful and the balcony has an incredible view of the Denali mountain range. Our thanksgiving weekend together as a family was thoroughly enjoyed in Kathy's home. Kathy provided excellent hospitality during both of our stays and is quick to respond to guest questions.

Beautiful home

First, this was an amazing property. You are about 20 minutes from downtown Fairbanks, close enough to get in and out, but the benefit of being secluded with beautiful views. Highly recommend. The only reason we gave it 4 stars is due to a strange situation with the property owner. She is very nice and accommodating, but the first night we arrived she sent me a message on VRBO asking if we want her to come over and show us the ropes. I responded no thanks, we're good and will let her know if we need anything. Then the next morning we were getting ready and there was a loud banging on the front door. My kids were very startled and a bit afraid, as we told them we are in an isolated spot and nobody would be coming to the house. I opened the door and it was the property owner who said she came over to get her toolbox. Considering that we had always communicated promptly on VRBO, we felt it was improper for her to just show up without at least letting us know before hand and scheduling a mutually convenient time.

Now what we expected

First and foremost, the cabin is nice. It is built very nicely and the decor is very homey.... Now, the lay out. It’s actually quite odd. The master bedroom up on the third level has no shower in the bathroom, which means you have a nice trek three stories down to the only bathroom on property with a shower. Also, the bottom floor ( basement) is the only area with a TV. So, being that you are in Alaska and probably spending some time in the cabin, especially after 6pm, there isn’t a TV in the main area ( second floor) to be able to enjoy with everyone. With that said, now to why I only give this cabin 2 stars. In the description the owner is very proud to mention “your private getaway awaits you.” What a misleading title from Kathy (owner). There are two neighbors in the back of the cabin. One at the bottom, which also has a main road next to it, that cars are driving through ALL night long. In top of that awesome annoyance, there is another house on the top right of this cabin. When you are facing the cabin from the back porch, this neighbor is on the right. They enjoy having a bright blue spot light on ALL night long... needless to say, your chances of seeing the aurora are pretty slim. It needs to be dark but with the wonderfull bright blue spot light on, it is extremely impossible to enjoy the peace , quiet and darkness you are looking to have in Alaska. Lastly, we are very disappointed with Kathy. We asked very specifically before our stay if the cabin was secluded. She ofcourse said yes, she even said the cabin was on two acres. Making anyone think, that yes we are getting a great cabin in a secluded area... we were fooled by her. If you are looking for a nice, quiet, secluded experience I recommend you find another cabin, this one is for someone who wants noise from cars and a light on all night long.

Amazing Stay!

The house was so more than we had hoped for in many ways - it’s huge, extremely well kept, has a cozy feel, and we had amazing views of the Aurora two nights in a row. The backyard is also very spacious and we had a clear view of Denali the day we arrived. The host, Kathy, was an absolute pleasure to interact with and was very organized with check-in/out info. She also had many great recommendations in a binder for us on the table which really completed our visit to Fairbanks. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful cozy in great location to Fairbanks

We had a different home booked but it got canceled so we were happy to find Kathy’s place. Only reason we had not booked it already was it has 2 1/2 baths and we were hoping for 3 since we had 3 couples. 3 baths are hard to find so we made it work. Kathy was very easy to work with and we found her place exceptional. This was a bucket list trip and we hoped to see Northern lights and we were not disappointed. We got to see them 2 nights. The 2nd time we knew they were coming we drove up to Cleary Summit and we did see a little but it was cold and a lot of people there so we decided to go back to the house. When we got home they were bright right in front of the house. We saw them better right there. House was very well appointed. Everything you need in the kitchen. Nice large table for playing games and large groups. Kathy had pretty much thought of every thing. If there was one suggestion, beds could use a mattress topper. The other 2 couple said there beds were good but my husband and I found our bed to be too hard. But we would stay again for sure!!

About the host

Host profile image
I arrived in Alaska in 1975. I have lived in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Delta Junction, Petersburg, and Arctic Circle Hot Springs Resort. Construction work took me around the state, but I found Fairbanks to be just the right size town for me. The people here are amazing! I have worked as an iron worker, retailer, cashier, florist, receptionist, teacher, and business owner. My talented children all live here in Fairbanks and I am now a proud grandmother of three! I have recently retired from teaching and turning all my attention to the constant care of my vacation rentals.

Why they chose this property

I bought this gorgeous natural log home because of the location. It is on a private dead end road and the house rests on three acres. The river valley and mountain views are so tranquil. Denali looms over the rest of the Alaska Range and is visible on clear days and especially clear at dawn and dusk.
There is an extensive trail system closeby, but I find it nice to just walk along the neighborhood dirt roads like so many of my friends.
The remoteness means dark streets and a better view of the aurora on clear, dark nights.

What makes this property unique

Aurora Viewing
Mountain Views
Natural Log Construction
Three Acres of privacy
Close to town
Tastefully decorated
