About the host
Hosted by Al Holman

I am from Chicago and this home was where I spent my summers. The house was originally owned by my uncle who was a prominent medical doctor in the area. He past away in the late 80's but the home remained in the family via an estate. I became the sole owner in 2022. This home has sentimental value to me because I had so much fun growing up visiting. I offer this home to family members who may be traveling through or attending events in town. This is where we would stay while visiting. Becoming a host was not an option at first but, now I enjoy providing a clean, safe home for guest when we are not using the home. I have long time family members who still live in town. Most people in the community knows a member of my family. I have family working in education, law, and the utility company in Greenwood. What I like about being a host is when repeat guest come back because they enjoyed their stay at our home.
Why they chose this property
When I visit I enjoy the tranquility of the neighborhood. There is not a lot of traffic or noise in the area. This is a working class area and my neighbors are long time residents. The next door neighbor to the right parents live across the street. The other side the owner lives two homes down the street and wants his daughter to move in next to our home. The neighbor living in the coach home next to me has been doing upkeep on the lawn for so long he refuses to take gifts or offerings from me and my family. He will eat dinner and sit with us when we do come to town. And we enjoy his company. Walmart and Mississippi Vally State college is minutes away. There is a walking trail nearby I use often. It leads you to down town and the local high school the opposite way. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet with no disturbance such as loud noise or high traffic.
What makes this property unique
I personally did the upgrades to the property myself. And what I did realized was the home was built with a tough, and fragrant distinctive wood. It was as if it was an all wood cabin home. It has a lot of doors inside. Meaning all the bedrooms have two entrances. When I went into the attic I can see the home had at least 3 chimneys. What I remember as a child was in the winter my uncle would light the fire places. (two at the time) and as an adult I realized that you could actually close certain doors to direct the heat throughout the house. My uncle was single with no kids therefore, he only needed to heat a portion of the home and he could do this by closing certain doors to direct the heat. Because this home has the original wood trimming and flooring. I discovered that they make window air conditioners that also provide heat in the winter. This was a great idea for me because installing a whole house air system I would have to cut into the beautiful wood work. So, each room is equipped with an individual window unit that provides cooling and heat for each room. Most guest complimented the kitchen for its size. If you like to cook this kitchen is perfect to cook for your family. I love the spacious back yard as well. Again not a lot of traffic so the tranquility of the back yard can be for entertainment or reading a book.
