We had a wonderful stay at this VRBO property tucked away in the woods and very close to downtown Houston. The home was incredibly clean and well maintained, and the wall of windows made the entire space feel open, peaceful, and connected to nature. One of our favorite parts was how quiet and relaxing the property was, surrounded by trees and shielded from the noise of the city. The host was outstanding — very communicative, answered questions almost immediately, even when she was away on vacation, and was extremely helpful throughout our stay. It made the entire experience smooth and stress-free from check-in to check-out.This property is appealing for both short- and longer-term stays. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with beautiful natural surroundings, plenty of light, and a responsive host, this property is an excellent choice. We would absolutely stay here again

Nice Apartment - has potential to be great

This was a nice 700 sq ft apt. The location was unique as it felt like you were in the woods and it was very pretty because one full wall of the apartment building a sliding glass doors. We spent 30 days at this location which was quite long for this small apt. The host lives upstairs and was very helpful and kind. A couple of things you should know: 1. This is a good unit for 2 but no more. I would not recommend this for kids. There just isn’t enough room and the fold out couch is not appropriate for guests. 2. Although this is right next to the bayou there is really no way to get to the walking or biking trail. That was one of the key selling.features for us and we were disappointed that logistically you really could use the trail. We tried several different options and it just wasn’t feasible. 3. The photos for the apt are accurate, however the 3d floor patio is misleading. This area is not very nice. The furniture is old and I just didn’t feel comfortable sitting on the patio. Again disappointing because the weather eas beautiful the first two weeks we were there and it would have been nice to sit in the sun or shade and lounge. The area has so much potential. My husband sat on one of the patio chairs and it completely collapsed. The area needs all new furniture. 4. The neighborhood is interesting. There are very nice houses and shacks all on this very short dead end street. At the top of the street there are two huge apartment complexes on the road as well. Houston doesn’t have zoning laws so it’s a bit strange. We always felt safe. We had everything we needed. The unit was fine. I would highly recommend it if the patio area was updated and clean.

I always appreciate and ask for comments, and take them very seriously. If I learn of any dissatisfaction, I address it immediately. To add some context: 1. It is a normal queen sofabed. I provide a 4 inch foam topper to improve comfort. 2. Access to the trail is down a pretty steep hill thru 6 inch to 2 ft grass and wild flowers, depending on the season. There is an easier way, but it's been closed for utility construction recently. 3. I will update the roof deck photos, which shows old couches that I replaced 2 yr ago, and I had added 4 large planters. The chair that my guest fell thru, unfortunately, was one that I had previously stood on and broke. My repair didn't hold. Within an hour, I fixed it, and checked all the other furniture, which was fine. I have an unsightly broken table in the corner that I will remove. Houston's sun and soot do a number on outdoor wood furniture. I keep the sofas covered, so didn't realize they had dirty spots. After getting these comments, I did my annual refinishing and cushion cleaning. If I'd known their feelings, I would have done it immediately. 4. The "shacks" are in the 3rd block up the street. They are owned by friendly extended families that have lived there for generations. The new luxury apartments are on the main street.

Not as expected

Surroundings of property were shabby at best. Owner gave detailed instructions that were more micromanagement which include smalled typed multiple pages. NOT 2 bedroom. Pull out sofa was terrible so owner provided a foam topper that was very dirty. Bathroom sink was copper so owner warned us not to use any soap/chemical except the provided hand soap. (We used the kitchen sink to brush our teeth and shave.) We paid a fee for our well behaved dog yet the owner kept reminding us not to let him damage her property. She advertised washer/dryer but when I asked about it she said it is available if I HAVE to wash clothes. (In her very packed garage. I did not feel comfortable using the washer.) The first night the power went out for three hours on the coldest night in Houston (19) Then for two days there was a busted pipe the own was trying to repair herself. We had to hurry and take showers one morning and were told owner would be away from the place until 5pm and needed more time to fix the pipe. (We stayed with family and were not there anyway.) The next day she asked us to please be out by 10am. We got up extra early to be ready to go. She called before we left to tell us she would wait until we left to turn the water off. Then, the day before we left I received an emailed statement saying I owed an additional $41.25 for city taxes even though I had paid in full on the day I booked the place. I called VRBO and was told I am not responsible for this fee as VRBO collects only state and county taxes at 13%. This issue is still not resolved. The email appears to have come from VRBO. I explained to the owner what VRBO told me but she said it is part of the contract that I own her the city taxes. I plan to address this again with VRBO once the holiday is over (New Years).

From the moment of arrival, it was obvious there was no way to please this guest, but I did my best. I assume the “shabby surroundings” refers to several rundown houses occupied by original families 2-3 blocks away. This housing mix is common for many central cities. My block has only new million-dollar homes and there are woods between. The “micromanagement” must refer to my 1 text gently asking they prevent their [NOT well-behaved] dog from vigorously scratching the patio door and wall, after catching him in the act. I provide 2-page instructions for operating the TV, thermostat, etc. including cleaning instructions not to use “harsh soaps and chemicals” on the copper sink. Most people understand this means for cleaning, not toothpaste. We had no conversation about the washer/dryer, but access in the garage is no problem. The listing clearly said 1 bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. All sofa beds are uncomfortable, so I offer a 4-inch foam topper. We lost power for 3 hr when the grid went down in the historic freeze, and I provided candles and offered other options. The house is well-insulated so it didn’t get much colder than normal. I couldn’t have been more accommodating about the broken pipe (an outside hose bib). As a construction professional, I quickly fixed it, rather than waiting days for a plumber, as half the city fixed broken pipes. Before turning off the water main initially, I waited for them to casually finish showers and run some emergency water. I asked for approval on timing of repairs. I did a temporary fix within an hour to restore water, and the permanent fix 2 days later when they said they planned be out. The booking contract they agreed to is clear about the 4% city taxes to be collected for short term bookings.

City in the Trees

Loved the apartment. Just big enough for 2, and with a beautiful rooftop to boot. We've seen Jays, hawks and vultures from our living room. Great place to unwind and easy walk to Kroger or Walmart.

Our Vacay in the Woods

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment over my 50th high school reunion weekend. Great layout in a cozy, wooded environment and yet centrally located to all things "civilized"...groceries, great restaurants, shopping, parks, downtown. Good choice for us as we were within 15-20 minutes of all events which in Houston is unheard of. Thanks again, Corrine, for being such a gracious host!

Great urban retreat!

Great, restful location in the midst of the city. Two of us stayed for a week and had everything we needed for a wonderful get-away. Apartment was well supplied with needed essentials for simple cooking. Enjoyed DISH TV, Netflix, reliable internet. It was great to sit in the living room / dining room and look at the trees, birds, and squirrels through the numerous windows / patio doors. Very close to walking / biking trails; grocery stores and shopping; great restaurants; and movie theaters. Easy access to the major thoroughfares of Houston. Owner was easy to work with regarding details of the stay and and checked-in once via text to make sure "all was well". She even had the apartment decorated for Christmas / New Years. Loved how the house was situated in the trees, making it feel like one was living in a park.

Loved it!

Corrine is a fantastic hostess. Her property is not only unique but beautifully presented. It was just the right size for the two of us and our dog. The view of the woods is very relaxing. We visit Houston often and look forward to staying with Corrine again.

Modern oasis

What a great little apartment to stay in! Has all the amenities you would need. It has a great space to sit outside at night to enjoy a chat and glass of wine under the stars. As well, is a quick drive to a number of great neighborhoods in Houston. Highly recommend staying here.

In the woods in the city!

Corrine's place was a nicely secluded place in the middle of the city. Nature is all around and yet it is minutes from downtown and easy access to the freeway. Unfortunately you do hear the freeway when you step outside the apartment. It's small but that just makes it easy to manage! Good amenities, cable and internet all worked great. We'd stay here again!

Oasis in Houston Heights

We really enjoyed our stay here—Corinne greets us with keys upon arrival and showed us around the tropical-like wooded property that backs up to the Bayou trail system, and answered all of our questions swiftly. The apartment is very modern and the views were amazing and made for a very relaxing weekend while exploring Houston. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
