About this property
Fish Tales Inn - Elegant Lakeside Whimsy
Beautiful and unique, this Lakeside home was built at the end of a sand road as a weekend retreat. The property includes a long wrap-around dock, a second canoe dock, a boat launch and 400 feet of lakefront.
Indoors find 6 cathedral ceilings, fish, birds and deer mounted on the lap joint living room walls, a hardwood floor that came from a high school gymnasium, a full-length porch with dining, lounging, ping pong and cedar built outdoor shower, a private library/office in rich mahogany with antique ceiling tiles off the master bedroom suite.
In two out buildings the property includes an art studio and workshop, The grounds feature huge long-leaf yellow pine trees, water on three sides, two wells and an open second lot with full RV hookup also available.
This 1800 sq. foot 2-bedroom Interlachen lake house offers a full modern kitchen with bar, 4 leather stools, and one of three dining areas in the house. One and a half bathrooms equipped with a bathtub and shower are beautifully appointed, The master bedroom is exquisite with board and batten paneling and a wrought iron framed picture window over the bed. The second double bed is a Murphy bed in the living room. Outside is a second kitchen on the "Fish Porch" complete with Masterbuilt grill, Akorn cooker, sink and refrigerator.
A stunning view from the porch looks over the fire pit, under the pines, through the hammocks, past the crescent dock with fish station and over the turtle float to the lake's far shore. The sun rises over that east shore with early morning light streaming into the living room, the setting sun lights up the shore on its descent. Lounge on the porch or take the paddleboat or canoe out for a cocktail cruise or to catch dinner. Stay out and float in the dark night sky under a blaze of stars.
In addition to the property's 3 acres of abundant wildlife: birds, cranes. ducks, geese, butterflies, deer, otter, turkey, turtles fed by the owners (please no pets), natural wonders in the area abound. Don't miss the nearby State Parks with wild horses, alligators and bison.
Woodland trails to hike; 'Rails to Trails' to bike. The State Parks host numerous crystal-clear 1st magnitude fresh water springs to swim and snorkel. These Springs of North Florida have been attracting and entrancing tourists since the advent of the motorcar. From springs and rivers to canoe/kayak with fish, birds, alligators, manatees and wild monkeys... come see Disney before Disney!
Fishing is good year-round but fishing for trophy Largemouth Bass is a Spring ritual here in North Florida. Fishermen join us from around the country. See the picture!
Plan to hike the "Yearling Trail" in Ocala National Forest to the homesite setting of Marjorie Kinnan Rawling's 1939 Pulitzer Prize winning book, Visit her National Historic Site home at Cross Creek as well as the Yearling restaurant for gator and frog legs.
Explore Gainesville, home to the University of Florida, for museums and culture. Check out historic forts, ocean beaches, and America's oldest city founded in 1565.

Why they chose this property
Ten years after moving aboard our sailing catamaran and extensive cruising, we moved ashore in 2011 to Stuart, FL. We continued to charter our boat for day and weeklong cruises to the Keys and Bahamas. By 2022 we felt the town had grown too big. We moved 3.5 hours north to the rural delights of the Florida flatwoods.
What makes this property unique
WE looked hard for a special place with water, nature and privacy.
We walked into this house and immediately wanted it.
Look at the pictures and you see why.
