About the host
Hosted by Ann and Larry Gilbert
We are your hosts, Ann and Larry, who have lived here, raised a family, nurtured livestock, and cultivated this beautiful property since 2010.
We are now retired after enjoying careers in community health, communications, and entrepreneurial endeavors such as Zoombikes, the area's first e-bike dealer and repair shop.
Here on Sylvana Farm we are taking a break from raising chickens, grassfed beef, and keeping bees. We presently focus more on growing garlic, vegetables and herbs, and berries.
Now as empty nesters we love hosting visitors in our apartment and take pride in exceptional reviews and ratings on rental sites. Guests come from all over the world to experience Vermont, have a place to stay while visiting family nearby, and to enjoy the Green Mountain state for skiing, mountain biking, hiking, beautiful fall foliage, college visits, and to work remotely in a peaceful place.
We are active seniors who live in the main house on the property and are available to chat and offer information as wish. We are out and about on e-bikes, paddle boarding at nearby Curtis Pond in Calais, walking and hiking local trails, and enjoying taking care of this space and all that Central Vermont offers throughout the seasons. We do spend summer days working in the garden and green house to grow our own food and enjoy relaxing at the outdoor firepit in evenings.
We are happy to respect your space and privacy while also being available when needed.

Why they chose this property
This location is safe and convenient as the house and apartment are set back from the paved road, just a short, easy drive to downtown Montpelier. It really is the best of both worlds--close to town and close to nature!
There is enough space for everyone and guests find it delightful to enjoy their private deck to watch birds, deer, wildflowers, trees changing color, and open sky for stargazing.

What makes this property unique
Sylvana Farm consists of 25 acres of fields and woods and garden space. As you drive up the driveway lined with tall white pines you'll leave the main road behind and cherish the privacy yet close access to nearby towns as well as our capital city of Montpelier, the smallest capital city in the U.S. (and the only capital without a McDonalds!) There are local businesses for a variety of food options featuring plenty of locally grown and made products. Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks is a half mile from here and the ideal spot for maple syrup and a maple "creemee"- which is soft serve ice cream and a Vermont favorite treat!
Come and enjoy and come back again! We are proud to have guests who reserve and return year after year! Its wonderful here!
