About this property
Historic Greek Revival Farmhouse c. 1837 / Heart of Downtown Hudson.
The Austin-Lake home, originally built in 1837 with Lucy Lake, a tailoress plying her trade as Hudson's local tailoress/seamstress for the duration of 34 years until her passing in 1877. Mrs. Lake is proudly noted as the sole owner of 230 North Main Street. Lucy's mother, Lucinda Hurn Markellie also lived with her daughter until her passing in 1850. Lucinda is known for an existing journal she wrote while immigrating from Lincolnshire England in 1833 aboard the well known fast sailing ship - The Westmoreland. The original historically significant journal much studied by scholars for its many insights into early 1800's immigration is beautifully written and meticulously preserved. The leather bound journal today rests in the Hudson Library Historical Archives. The Greek Revival farmhouse remains true to its original build with its facade, charming covered front porch and fenced red brick courtyard. The home is lovely inside and out, beautifully preserved and restored. The essence of a bygone era with all its charm and character is proudly on display in Hudson’s prominent downtown historic district. Lucy’s House is a treasure beyond its historical significance. The early Hudsonites who courageously journeyed from far and wide to make Hudson, Ohio their home is best felt on Main Street with its many charming shops and restaurants. Walking distance to shops and restaurants, Western Reserve Academy, Hudson Library, grocery store and so much more. Just 5 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park and super easy access to Akron/Cleveland Connectors. Welcome to Lucy's House -where history meets Art!

What makes this property unique
So much original detail from the charming location to the 1837 building footprint. The property is loaded with period furniture yet offers many modern amenities making our guests stay most comfortable including organic Saatava and Avocado beds. This historical significance of the first family who made Lucy's House their home from 1841 to 1877 is quite impressive and heart warming as the story of a widowed tailoress forges her new life to make her new life with her mother and adopted daughter in early 1800s Hudson. The voyage from Lincolnshire, England to Quebec and finally ending their journey in Hudson is nothing less than remarkable. We hope you will enjoy staying here as much as we have had restoring and preserving Lucy's House for guests to enjoy decades to come!
