About this property

Historic Mill. Your private oasis on the creek with brooks, bridges, and forests

235 year old former mill sitting on the Butternut Creek! New to VRBO but 3 year superhost elsewhere. Over the last 3 years, we have been revitalizing this beautiful property that once produced buckwheat flour for companies like Pillsbury and served as general store for the locals of New Lisbon.
25 minutes to Cooperstown(Baseball Hall of Fame) and All Star Village!

Great for families/groups, couples, or solo travelers. Enjoy rest and relaxation and indulge in the beautiful outdoors and wildlife. Dip in the creek or sit on the lawn amongst over 50 species of flowers and trees. Several outdoor seating areas for meals along with modern and old fashioned outdoor grills. Walk through the woods and fields, or take a 7 minute drive to the lake! Get a fire going in the firepit for evening gatherings and smores :)

Sit inside by the original 12 ft wide window and observe the wildlife coming and going over morning coffee & tea or a book from the shelves. The entertainment area seats the whole family comfortably with an HD projector and drop down screen with surround sound speaks and accounts for all the popular streaming services, video game systems, and board games. Get a fire going in the wood stove to keep warm in the evenings. The built in western bar(built from leftover materials from the mill itself) is a great area for anything from card games to cocktails.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook meals as expansive as Thanksgiving dinner. The extra large farm table sits up to 10 for meals.
The second floor sleeps 8 comfortably with 3 queen size beds and a queen futon, along with a sectional sofa. One of the queen beds is in the main bedroom while the rest are together in the main room of the second floor, all with their own dressers and bedside tables.
Please note : -The one bathroom is on the first floor, not upstairs with the bedrooms.
-We have rolling floors, meaning they are slightly tilted. Safe and secure, just worth mentioning in advance.
-As mentioned, the house is 235 years old(built in 1790). While we provide all the modern amenities and comforts you would expect from a vacation rental, it is a very old fashioned home that we will always be working to improve. Its very exciting for us to share it with people! We are a very pet friendly home.

We are also a very popular destination for those looking to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, just 30 minutes away. Baseball tournament families always welcome :)

Also available for film productions, music productions, weddings/events. Please inquire for further info .

Fantastic Stay

My husband and I plus our 2 dogs, as well as my inlaws, their 2 dogs and baby all stayed for Memorial Day weekend. We all loved the house and the property. The house is very rustic and unique and has interesting decorations and furnitings. It rained all weekend but with all the windows and stunning views, we were never bored. We spent our time cooking and playing board games. Check in instructions were super easy. Robert was easily accessible via VRBO for any questions throughout our stay. The stairs are very steep which is something to be aware of but we managed to carry the baby and an elderly dog up and down with no trouble. Robert has a really cool projector screen set up as well as speakers for music. Being next to the creek, we did see some garder snakes and a water snake on our last day but that is to be expected.
Stayed 3 nights in May 2025

I'm originally from Boston but have lived in New York City for since i was 19. I work in small business and design and spent a good amount of time working on music for fun on the side. Being able to share this space as we continue to modify and restore is the most gratifying way to celebrate the work we do.

Why they chose this property

I found the listing for the mill a few years ago, not knowing anything about the town or county at all. What drew me in was the house itself and the land it sits on. It certainly needed some work but I knew the potential was there to revitalize a beautiful home with beautiful land. To be able to retreat from the city with friends and family for peaceful getaways, and on top of that share it with travelers from all around the country(via Cooperstown visits primarily!) was something I didnt want to pass up.

What makes this property unique

You are staying at a historical location! Built in 1790, the gristmill and saw mill across the bridge(no longer standing) were a few of the many mills that New Lisbon was known for. The mill produced buckwheat flour for companies such as Pillsbury. It was also home to a baseball history writer (John Durant) and mystery novelist, among many others over the years.

The open concept of the house gives it a very old fashioned and western feel, and allows you to get beautiful views of nature from inside. You have your own private oasis with a babbling brook running down the side and a creek in front.
