Excellent host. Beautiful property. Great birdwatching out your front door.

Only a few miles from El Valle, this property has been designed and planted for birdwatchers. Marcela and Aldofo were so friendly and hospitable. They both speak perfect English and have poured their heart and soul into making the property attractive and comfortable. A dozen eggs from their chickens was welcoming gift. The home is very clean - the kitchen was spotless and well equipped. Your hosts live a short distance away and are always ready to help if needed but will not bother you if you want to be left alone. Yes, this time of year can be windy but it’s windy all over the country so don’t be dissuaded by that. We saw about 40-50 different birds during our 7 day stay. This time of year - the dry season - when the gardener would set the sprinkler on the grounds in the late afternoon, the birds just went nuts romping through the bushes getting wet. We were there during Carnival and there was some distant noise but not too bad. Town is close enough to visit multiple times a day if needed for fresh fruits and vegetables. Our thanks to our hosts who were both a wealth of information about Panamá and the región. They exhibited the wonderful warmth and friendly nature of Panamanians that we’ve come to love.

Windy windy windy

Valle de Antón is a great small town with numerous options fo sightseeing and restaurants. The house is located about 5 mins to town or 22 kms. down a very winding narrow road with no shoulders to highway 1 where you can reach playa sant Clara within. 10-15 minutes. Marcella and Adolfo are very nice and she was very quick to respond to any issues. Their caretaker Ivan also was very helpful. The home is subject to extreme high winds and made sitting outside at night impossible.

Beautiful property and perfect home base for El Valle

This house was perfect for our family of 4. The kids enjoyed sleeping in the upstairs loft. The house is located on a very well taken care of plot of land with chickens, bunnies, birds, hammock, etc. There is no A/C but it was not needed for us as it is cool enough outside in that area. The owners are very nice, easy to communicate with and willing to help with the itinerary. There were extra linens which was helpful. Everything was working property in the house. The kitchen was nice but keep in mind that it did not come with any supplies, so bring your own things like paper towels, dish sponge/soap, coffee, laundry detergent, etc. It is only 10-15 min drive to most activities and restaurants in El Valle. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Private, Peaceful Paradise!

This is truly a place to relax and unwind surrounded by incredible beauty. The home is charming, cheery, and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. What a treat to wake up to the sun coming up over the mountains and to sit on the patio with our coffee and listen to the birds sing as we soaked in the magnificent, well-chosen trees, shrubs, and flowers that surround this home. Wow! Walking through the garden paths after breakfast was also such a pleasure. We loved the town of El Valle, a convenient five-minute drive away. We enjoyed the market, some of the restaurants, and exploring the surrounding area. Such incredible and breathtaking beauty! Thank you Marcela and Adolfo for a really special three days at your peaceful paradise and for your very warm and kind hospitality. You are wonderful hosts! We appreciated your assistance and advice, and your helping us to learn a little more about Panamanian culture. It was truly a pleasure to meet and get to know you. We are looking forward to a return trip to Panama!

Fantastic location, perfect (neat and clean) rental home and super hosts!

Beautiful gardens and fantastic scenery of mountains and valleys. We saw sooo many birds (over 50 different kinds, just in and around their gardens!) and capuchins from the patio. Close to town for essentials and for hikes and attractions. Great little kitchen for cooking if you're so inclined. We feasted on corn tortillas, and fresh eggs from the owners, beans and tomatoes outside every morning while watching the wildlife. We hiked Indio dormido, from foot to head (starting at sendero de las cruces) . Also did hikes on a neighbouring peak, La Laguna and even a lovely walk near the rental to see a massive tree and river valley (ask the owners, you start at the far end of the nearby football pitch). We did go see the waterfalls (hidden falls, lovers falls) but we visited during dry season so wasnt probably as spectacular as it could be. Still a fun hike though. We visited the simple but lovely Nispero zoo. Marcela and Adolpho were very friendly and helpful.

Slice of paradise!

Went here with a few friends for a two night stay in el Valle. It is close to the town and it is lovely. I loved waking up and wandering around the gardens looking at the birds and flowers or just sitting on the front porch watching the clouds rise and fall over the mountains. Relaxing in the hammock was lovely too! Marcela is a wonderful hostess, very kind and helpful!

Peace upon peace

This house was the best way to top off a long vacation in Panama. The weather is exquisite. The piece is unbelievable. All sorts of nature is right before your fingertips. The house is clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. There is no Wi-Fi, and you don't need one anyway. It's a place to relax, encounter God, and to nestle in His Creation. The hosts are most friendly. They go above and beyond and a very thoughtful.

Wonderful Family Christmas Vacation

My family had the pleasure of staying in this lovely, lush environment for the holiday season and loved every minute of it! The weather was spring-like and the sun shone every day, with only occasional brief misting of rain. The grounds were full of flowers, trees and shrubs and included banana, orange, mango and papaya trees. A large variety of birds came by daily. The house was comfortable, containing 3 bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed and a wonderful tiled outdoor patio with spectacular views of the mountains. The town of El Valle is just 4 kms away and there is much to see and do in the area. Fresh fruit and vegetables are available at the market and are reasonably priced. You can see the daily life of the indigenous population by vising the artisans market, going to the local church events, and just touring the mountain villages to see where people live. Everyone is most friendly and helpful. Marcela and Adolfo were gracious hosts, showed us around the area, and were always available to answer questions.

BEST part of our trip to Panama!

We spent two weeks in Panama in three different areas and this was by far our favorite spot. We were two couples, in our 50s and 70s and we all loved our home away from home in Elle Valle. Marcela has thought of absolutely everything! If it isn't in this well stocked household, you don't need it. The grounds are full of stone walk ways, seating areas, fountains and flowers. Then there are the birds! It truly is a bird lover's paradise. It was so relaxing to sit on the patio or wander the grounds and see all the different birds. We were lucky enough to see a hummingbird nest with two eggs during our stay! Marcela is very welcoming, helpful and interesting. We so enjoyed visiting with her. Unfortunately, her husband was out of town during our visit so we were unable to meet him. A car is necessary if you want to get to town or visit nearby areas. One day we drove to beach, which was an easy drive.

Beautiful Memories of El Valle de Anton January 29 - February 4, 2015

My husband and I, both in our 60's, immediately fell in love with this charming Panamanian home surrounded by lush gardens. The house was immaculate and well furnished. We had everything we needed to cook - in and the grocery store in El Valle was modern and well stocked. There were several very nice local restaurants for leisiurely lunches and people watching. The open air market in town was a bonus especially on Saturday when local crafters came to town to sell their wares. My husband is a bird enthusiast so he spent countless hours hiking local trails with his camera. Ironically some of the best birds he spotted were on the grounds of the house! Lovely breezes provided relief from the heat and we slept well on a very comfortable king sized platform bed. Every morning we woke up to blue skies and sunshine. We never tired of the view! Our hostess and owner of the property, Marcella, spoke excellent English and she was more than happy to tell us about the area. She even arranged for my Veterinarian husband to meet her Vet in El Valle who also happened to own the local zoo. We could not have asked for a more charming experience and highly recommend this property. Having a car is essential to staying here.

Fantastic views, great for bird watching - Car is a must

We had 6 adults and 2 infans and the house was almost perfect (one room is in the attic without walls). The views of the mountain from the property were fabulous, we really enjoyed having every meal in the backyard looking at the mountains and the birds. Close drive into El Valle (as the property is located 5 KM before el Valle). You must have a car to stay at this place. Owners of the property were very helpful.

Perfect Retreat, but close enough to everything else

We weren't sure what to expect, it was our first time to Panama and El Valle. We picked this property based on all the favorable reviews, and we were not disappointed. There were four of us (two of whom were small children) and we loved it. In fact, we had planned to stay a few days in El Valle and a few in Coronado. After two days, we decided we would be much more comfortable staying at this house that felt so much like home. The description and photos are very accurate. The home is beautiful. The garden on the property was the highlight. My 3 year old wanted to go "explore" every chance he had during daylight. It allowed us to see many of the colorful flowers on the property, and the horses on the farm next door. The house itself made us very comfortable. However, what made us feel most like home, was the neighbors (property owners). It was a very unique experience to have neighbors who were interested in socializing with us. We never felt imposed on, but they were just available to add that social element any time we needed it. Adolfo and I had many conversations about Panama, global economics, and how to raise chickens, which I really enjoyed. Marcela being from Panama really made us feel at home. Adolfo took us on a tour of El Valle for an hour, showed us things we would never have seen on our own. They also gave us a dozen fresh eggs right off the property. El Valle itself has a lot to offer, and after our tour with Adolfo, we visited some of his suggestions (Waterfalls and Zoo), and had a great time. There is a newer plaza with groceries, pizza shop and coffee shop, that will make you feel like you are in a nice suburb almost anywhere. But there are also authentic restaurants and stores as well. We could be to the beach in about an hour, and back to Panama City in 1.5-2 from the property. We will definitely go back. It would be harder to find a better value in my mind, because the hospitality we received is hard to put a price tag on. Thanks again Adolfo and Marcela!

WONDERFUL! MORE THAN EXPECTED.

Two couples stayed. The house was perfect. We were not stepping on each other. The setting would be hard to make more perfect. The landscaping is fantastic. Picked up several ideas as to what we could do with our home property. The hosts could not have been more accomodating. They even made a special trip from Panama city to bring the women a hairdryer when it was discovered that it was forgotten by both. Then there were several checks in during our stay to assure that we were doing well and enjoying ourselves. The big thrill was watching the development of a nest of hummingbirds located right off the patio. And oh, so many birds. Every day was a new adventure with new sights while we would be in the same spot with the bird book and the binoculars. We would love to come back again.

El Valle rental review.......Jan 26-Feb 10

This was our first time to visit Panama as we really knew nothing about where we wanted to stay. I had heard this area was nice as far as the weather goes, we were looking for something with a little cooler temperature. This immaculate house is located just 10 minutes from El Valle which has a new grocery store, fresh fruit and veggies market, many restaurants to choose from, and also close to hiking trails to the sleeping lady and square tree. We flew into Panama City and drove to El Valle which only takes a couple of hours.....and the house was also in a good location for exploring other area of Panama. We traveled to Pedasi on the Azuero peninsula, Bocha Chica, and Boquete. The owners of the house are very nice and good company, full of information and speak very good English. The grounds are green and full of flowers and you can hear the frogs at night....Temps stay in the 65-75 degree range. Beaches (corona/santa clara) are just 30 minutes away. The dogs keep the place well protected at night......and the grounds keeper is there during the week for any problems that may arise. We'll be back next year, thank you!

Excellent accommodations in El Valle

We had 6 adults and one infant and the house was perfect. The grounds were immaculant the house was great and the views were fabulous. Close drive into El Valle. Owners of the property were very helpful. They took us on a quick tour of El Valle of what to do while we were there. Everything there was amazing. It was the highlight of our trip to Panama.

Wonderful Stay

This is a great place to stay and explore the El Valle area of Panama. The house is nicely equipped and if there is any concerns the owners are very quick to help. The natural stone shower is wonderful and the porch is amazing for the perfect view and for bird watchers. Spending each morning watching the sun come up over the mountain was a dream come true. Marcela and Adolfo where the perfect host with lots of information on the area and Adolfo took us on a wonderful driving tour of the area explaining some of the history of the area and places to visit. The property is beautifully landscaped and attracts an amazing number of types of birds and just sitting on the porch offers a huge list of birds waiting to be spotted including Blue Headed Parrots and Keel Billed Toucans. A wonderful place to stay.

A perfect start to using VRBO

This was our first use of VRBO so we were a bit concerned out what we would actually encounter. The photo's of this property showed a very nice house and grounds but photo's can be deceiving. In fact the photo's do not do the property full justice, the actual house and grounds are very beautiful. The grounds are extensively landscaped with many varieties of the trees and flowers and the views of the surround mountains are gorgeous. We had not expected to see so many birds (we saw several new birds to add to our "life list") and it was wonderful to sit on the porch in the mornings and evenings and enjoy the birds, flowers and the view. The owners were a joy to deal with, from the very first contact responses to our questions were very prompt and detailed. They are passionate and enthusiastic about their place and took time to show us around. They also were very knowledgeable about El Valle and had suggestions for places to visit, shop and which restaurants were worth eating at. This place exceeded all of our expectations and we would recommend this property to friends, family and really any one who loves nature.

Beautiful Property, Wonderful Hosts!

My sister and I stayed for two weeks at this beautiful property. The house was quite nice, the gardens are gorgeous, and the town of El Valle is charming. Marcela and her husband were the best hosts ever. Marcela greeted us and gave us a tour of the house and grounds. She introduced us to the man who lives on the property and helps maintain it. She took us into town and showed us where to shop and introduced us to various people. She was so very helpful. The next weekend her husband took us on an more extensive tour of the area. He is so knowledgable about the history and the land. They were truly wonderful. The area is so nice. The temperature is always good, not too hot, not too cold. We saw very few bugs which surprised us. We felt very safe during our stay. The town had several nice activities. I think our favorite was going to the mineral water hot springs. There is also hiking in the beautiful jungle. There were nice restaurants in town.

Beautiful mountain get-away

My family and I stayed in this beautiful home for two restful, quiet weeks in June 2013. The owners, Marcela and Adolfo, were great hosts, giving us tips on the best shopping and beaches as well as charming stories about the local town and its residents and history. We went hiking, bike riding and swimming in the Pacific. We experienced amazing weather, an exotic zoo, a mud bath, huge waterfalls, several different biomes, friendly residents and great food with cheap beer. I would not hesitate to recommend this place. The views are amazing and the home is comfortable and relaxed. One warning...there's not much night life in El Valle, so if you crave neon and action, this is not the place for you.

Wonderfull three weeks in El Valle De Anton

Concerning Panama, if cooler temperatures, peace and quiet, and beautiful landscape is what you are looking for, this is the place for your vacation. I came down to Panama for a chance to see the country and explore it as a possible retirement location. I booked this vacation home and was very happy with the whole experience. The owners were very accommodating and we had everything we needed in a home for three weeks. If there was something missing they immediately obliged and got it for us. I have to mention that they have two dogs that keep the property very secure and if there is something around they let you know, so we felt very secure in our surroundings up in the mountain area. The home accommodated six adults comfortably and there was ample sitting areas outside to enjoy the days long fresh air and beautiful blue sky's the whole time we were there (which was the month of march). The owners spent a lot of time with us taking us on guided tours around El Valle. They introduced us to the local markets and gave us lots of recommendations for the best restaurants and places to see. The beaches are only 35-40 minutes away so you have the best of both worlds. From the home you can take walks anywhere throughout the property and enjoy all the flowers and gardens they have produced. I want to take this opportunity to thank Marcelo and Adolfo for sharing their beautiful haven and it is truly a peace of paradise.I certainly will not hesitate to book another vacation at their property in the mountains.

My husband (Adolfo) and I reside in Panama City. Adolfo is Cuban-American and I am Panamanian. Adolfo grew up in the US and I grew up in Panama. I have a Master´s Degree in Anthropology and Adolfo has a Ph.D. in International Relations and is currently Full Professor of Latin American History and International Relations at Florida State University-Panama.

Why they chose this property

This property is our getaway place from the hectic life in Panama City. There are 2 houses built, one for rent and the one we use for our leisure and rest. The houses are located on opposite corners of the property to assure total privacy. We come every week-end to re-energize ourselves, because the place is completely surrounded by nature, where we feel the silence and peace of the surrounding area while enjoying the gorgeous mountain views, the sounds of a great variety of birds and the sight of many colorful butterflies.

What makes this property unique

We felt in love with the land because of its all green exhuberant tropical foliage around us and its panoramic mountain views. We were looking for a Garden of Eden and we found it, with the great benefit of being only 5 minutes away from town.
