Gaines Ranch on the Square is the fulfillment of a long-held dream for Pat and Kristie Gaines—a boutique property inspired by their family’s original Gaines Ranch, a cherished homestead in Waurika, Oklahoma, where they spent over 50 years building a life grounded in hard work, faith, and community.

Their journey to Wimberley began with frequent visits to see their daughter Shelli and her family. During those stays, they often found themselves at Cabins on the Square, then owned by the Sheffields. Over time, they fell in love with the town’s charm, culture, and close-knit feel.

In 2017, that love turned into a new chapter when they purchased Cabins on the Square. With Shelli’s eye for design and background in real estate, the family thoughtfully renovated the cabins—retaining their charm while bringing new life to the space. Eventually, Pat and Kristie made Wimberley their full-time home, continuing to invest in the community they’d grown to admire.

Their dream expanded in 2025 with the opening of Gaines Ranch on the Square—a boutique property that offers both modern lodging and thoughtfully curated retail space, just steps from their first venture. The name is a nod to their Oklahoma roots, while the vision reflects their passion for design, hospitality, and meaningful guest experiences.
