really a great property. Everything about it was cool, both inside and out. It was eclectically decorated, great outdoor spaces is to sit in and enjoy the surrounding forest, the description of it being a treehouse is accurate. Great location— short walk to the Rio Nido Roadhouse and to the river. I hope to come back. Thanks!
This place was fun! We enjoyed the coziness of the beds, the cleanliness and the beautiful view of the redwoods.
Please up your coffee game, though. We were disappointed to have to venture into town to stock up!

House is Very Dark on Inside
We had trouble finding the house, but with the help of neighbors, we finally did. House numbers are all jumbled making it more difficult than it needs to be.
The outside decks under the redwoods is a winning feature of this property, but the interior of the house was very dark (and we had sunny days). The online photos have obviously been professionally lit. The furniture in the living room is so uncomfortable; we spent no time there - lucky for us, the outdoor areas and temps made it lovely to be on the decks.
Gratefully, the beds were both very comfortable. The bathroom is very small and tucked at the back of the house. The kitchen is also very small but adequate. Would be nice if staples like sugar were stocked. The delivery of fresh coffee was a nice touch however. The place was clean which is always a plus.
This is an old house with funky electric, extension cords and inadequate lighting. It would be like staying in your grandma's summer cabin with lots of eclectic knick knacks all around--as is LOTS of them. Some will find that charming. We found it garrish.
Rio Nido is a bit of a dumpy town and honestly we don't get the appeal for staying in this area. Very few local amenities to enjoy and keep in mind almost all local eateries are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays due to lack of tourist activity. Maybe shop fronts are empty or closed down all together - maybe partly from COVID - not sure.
For the money this listing charged, we expected more, a whole lot more. That said, sitting out on the back deck under the redwoods (when the surrounding neighbors and dogs were quiet) was enjoyable. For my money, I would skip staying in Guerneville/Rio Nido and look for another area along the coast!
Just keeping it real . . .

Everything about the property is unique from the drive in to the fact it is truly built in the trees. It was a great experience!
I’m sharing much of this information to help future VRBOers considering this property. Please note that this property is rented by a business – not a person. VRBO will collect their fee directly, but the Property Manager will charge you separately directly to your credit card some time later. This was my first time experiencing that on VRBO. The property manager may or may not answer VRBO messages. I think it is helpful to know this up front.
Check-in was easy and specified up front.
Parking as previous reviewers mentioned is a challenge if you have more than one vehicle. I recommend renting this property only if you have 1 vehicle. The parking on the road is super challenging as the road is narrow with a drop off. Google maps took me right to the property directly the wrong way up a one-way street and Apple maps will take you somewhere else completely. The property manager does text directions prior to the stay.
The coffee maker is a drip version with a reusable filter. We used this every day.
The Wi-fi worked great – until it didn’t the last 1.5 days of our stay. No fault whatsoever of the property owner, but it rained terribly during our stay, which I presume knocked out the Wi-fi, but also the electricity twice. The electricity was out from 8pm our last night through check out. Thankfully the house does have gas for hot water and the gas heater in the living room. I couldn’t find a flashlight in the house. It would be nice to know where emergency supplies are in the future.
Speaking of light, the rooms are darker than in depicted in the photos. Overall, we enjoyed the eclectic style and quirkiness. The exception is the tiny mirror and poor lighting in the bathroom. As a small group of women, we had no way to apply make-up or do basic care. I recommend bringing your own lighted mirror if you want to apply make-up, groom your eyebrows, etc.
The property is advertised as “just over an hour from San Francisco”. I’m not sure what part of San Francisco or at what time of day that represents, but since I had to drive there several times during my stay, I would say if you are going to the San Francisco airport, allow a minimum of 3 hours. Accidents and bad weather impacted the traffic that direction every single time. If I had it all to do over again, I would have stayed in Santa Rosa or Healdsburg instead. Those towns seemed less impacted by the weather.
The beds were comfortable.
The Tree house is even better in person! Waking up in the redwoods looking out all the windows was great! The property is beautifully decorated and the location is nice, we walked to and from town. The only negative is I didn't receive any instructions regarding the house and or checkin until 6pm the night before, and that was only have I called VBRO and the owner and left two different voicemails. It made me feel like they forgot about my reservation. After that the owner was more responsive and even double texted/emailed me! Thanks for sharing your home!
I had friends visiting from out of state who were so excited to stay in a treehouse in the redwoods and spend time up in wine country! The hardest part was the windy road and parking- but once we were there we enjoyed the quirky decorations, comfortable beds, well supplied kitchen, drinking wine on the spacious patio and walking down to the local bar and restaurant for live music and drinks! I highly recommend staying here for a unique and memorable experience!
If you’re looking for a charming house with tons of eclectic funky charm…this is the ONE!
Wonderful older home with interesting and comfy decor. Truly nestled right amongst the trees so you must enjoy the shade and awe of these towering giants.
A wee bit tricky to get to via a very winding narrow road, and the parking is equally tricky but so worth it. We walked down to the Roadhouse for some live music one night so we didn’t even need to move the car! Great spot for a getaway.
This cozy cottage is a great get away from the Silicon Valley grind and pandemic isolation. Quirky decor inside was fun to explore including the giant pear lamp and antiques. Great kitchen, cozy bedrooms, lovely deck among the redwoods and ideal location for visiting Guerneville or Healdsburg. We loved it!
Cute and comfy! House is really amongst the redwoods, tucked away in a super cool little neighborhood in the trees. Lovely decks, great decor, truly a wonderful retreat!
This cabin is quirky and full of charm- it truly feels like a treehouse. 4 stars only because the cabin is quite dark during the day and kitchen didn’t have dish towels or hotpads. Very minor!
Quirky, eclectic, charming and funky best kick off a description of this interesting rental up in the hills nearby downtown Guerneville! The owners have made a perfectly interesting rental our of this 1920's gem. Their avant-garde sense of taste is everywhere. In short, eye candy for the entire trip, so statues, lamps, antique chairs or fascinating pictures adore every inch. The beds are VERY comfortable - like, better than home. Kitchen is very functional with lots more pots and pans than the average rental. Outdoor dining or taking in a cocktail on the back deck at dusk are a must. Not a great option for families with young kids that will get into everything (but fine for teenagers that will appreciate the decor and earthiness). Easy communications, issue-free check in. A LITTLE bit hard to find - try and arrive during daylight that first time (winding roads, missed street signs, etc.). But worth the search. Super clean and tidy. A little creaky and antiquated - so if you don't like old places - avoid. Easy drive to downtown; 20 minutes to Healdsburg Square and its myriad wineries. Highly recommended - we'll be back!
We spent Christmas at this cozy treehouse. It was an amazing place to relax for a few days. Cool decor/furniture, tree views and the house within walking distance to the river. Would definitely come back.
Fun eclectic treehouse in Rio Nido. Walking distance to Rio Nido Roadhouse. Be ready to unplug as no phone reception but wifi good. Living area a bit uncomfortable with low light and furnishings. Patios and bedrooms very nice and comfortable.
Really liked the house— it feels like a secluded quirky tree house in the woods. My one complaint was that it’s a bit dark in the house, but didn’t affect my experience. Location is fantastic. Thanks for a fun weekend.

Beautiful home! Decorated exquisitely! The setting in the trees was magical.
Everything we needed was here. It is a great location in the hills and every window view was breathtaking. I would recommend staying here as the location was perfect for us. The town of Gueneville is close with great restaurants.

Not so Quiet Weekend
My wife and I rented the Treehouse and were very disappointed to find that the property is not at all secluded as the photos represent and is in a very busy/noisy neighborhood. The interior is indeed decorated in an artsy, boho-style, by someone with a nice eye for unique accessories. However, in person it's overcrowded and dark, and the living room seems like a cluttered storage area for excess used furniture, none of which is comfortable to sit in. And while rustic was implied, it could use a deep-cleaning and some handyman attention (very old windows with warped, cobwebby screens, cracked dirty skylight, dirty shelves in refrigerator, ants in kitchen, lights outside that didn't work). The electrical in the house was rigged (extension cords to lighting snaking everywhere). The weekend was very hot, and the home is not air conditioned (we had to dig to find an old fan in a closet - no comment from property manager Theo to address the uncomfortable temperature). The living room does not have windows that open or a bug screen on the door, and the temperature inside exceeded a sweltering 85 in the evenings. Our only recourse was the deck. The largest deck has no comfortable chairs to sit in (just rickety recliners). The photos are deceiving, as this home is not secluded. It is right in the midst of and overlooking many other cabins with raucous neighbors, barking dogs, music, etc. A neighborhood Rec Center with peewee golf course is visible (and within earshot) from the deck with a fairly well-trafficked local street winding by (trucks, campers, etc.). Worse is the proximity to the Rio Nido Roadhouse (at base of hill) - a large bar that plays amplified music OUTSIDE until 10pm which is impossible to ignore from the deck. The listing should at a minimum disclose the amplified Roadhouse music. The fact that The Treehouse is billed as a "relaxing getaway" is very misleading in combination with the photos shot only from angles that imply the property is secluded. We tried multiple times to reach Theo (phone, text, email) to come up with a solution. No response. Miserably hot, with no quiet place to go, we gave up and drove home to the Bay Area at 9pm at night, a day early. We texted that we left early due to our unpleasant say. Still no acknowledgement. Note also that the Treehouse is on a steep, extremely windy one-lane access road with a small, creaking deck parking space that is challenging to park in without a compact car. Communication is poor

The charm of the Tree House is the fact that it is in "The Country" the Russian River, a resort community just one hour from the San Francisco bay area, used
by city dwellers to escape the cold City summer, or the heat of the
San Joaquin Valley. Since the cabin was built in 1915, you can imagine the outdoors was the place to spend hot summer evenings. No air conditioning!
That still is the case, and the decks are encircled by 400 year old redwood trees which act as a shade umbrella keeping the house temperature as
moderate as possible. i.e. 85 degrees in the house, 109 degrees outside - which were the temperatures of that weekend. Multiple fans are provided for cooling off.
We enjoy the music at the Roadhouse, sitting on our own deck just above the venue. It takes place on Saturday night; sometimes it's the Unauthorized Rolling Stones, and you can hear "Mick Jaggar and Keith Richards" right in Rio Nido! Music stops at 10 pm. Pee Wee Golf is till 9, fri-sat nite. The house is cleaned professionally after each stay, and personally inspected and cleaned regularly. Spider webs do collect rapidly, and thirsty, hungry ants can travel into the house; we have ant traps placed strategically to collect the wayward insects. The house is lit to present a cozy atmosphere; and, to make it easier to turn the lights on and off, the lamps and fixtures are connected with extension cords. You only have to turn or flip one switch and most of the lights in the rooms turn on. The road to the house IS narrow, built in 1900 for smaller cars. Then it was model T's not SUVS. The parking deck will safely park two cars. Based on the hundreds of positive reviews we have received about our home in "the woods", this review strikes us as curious, for on many occasions we get to meet our guests, which we did this weekend, and the comment "it's way better than the pictures" is a recurring compliment we receive, from "hipsters" living in SF, to visitors from as far away as Northern Ireland. We love the Russian River and are proud of our home and neighborhood. You can bike, hike, kayak, canoe, zip line, have gourmet food at the gastronomically delicious restaurants in Guerneville, and drink fabulous wine crafted at the numerous Russian River Valley boutique wineries, or sit and watch for shooting stars from the deck. Come and visit our home in the Magical Valley of the Moon. Literally, hundreds of guests have and
said they loved it!! You will too.

I recommend this place highly. The setting was beautiful, location super convenient and beautifully styled. If you are looking for something more than just the average cabin, this is it. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The living room furniture also comfortable. Outdoor space awesome.
