About this property

Cozy Retreat at Red Gate Farm

Welcome to Red Gate Farm

Free your spirit at this charming, rustic horse farm. Enjoy a private, second-floor apartment with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a cozy living room, and a kitchenette. With keyless, PRIVATE entry, it’s the perfect spot to unplug and recharge.

THE SPACE
Nestled on a peaceful 5-acre retreat in the heart of the Saddlebred capital of the world, Red Gate Farm offers tranquility and charm. Three friendly horses call the property home and love greeting guests at the fence for a carrot and a photo op. If they’re not in the front field, feel free to take a stroll down the driveway to the back pasture for a visit.

GUEST ACCESS
You’ll have full access to the PRIVATE second-floor apartment. The host resides on the main floor with her dog who will be kenneled during your stay.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Conveniently located 10 minutes from I-64, 60 miles from Lexington, KY (home of the Kentucky Horse Park), and 33 miles from Churchill Downs. Downtown Shelbyville, just 10 minutes away, offers quaint restaurants, shops, and plenty of antique stores for treasure hunting. Also is conveniently located close to the Bourbon Trail.

Horses: The horses may not always be in the pasture behind the house due to pasture rotation. If they’re not in the front field, they’ll be in the back pasture behind the barn. Feel free to walk down for a visit. This is a working farm, you may see Host or her Dad doing farm maintenance, mowing or working/riding the horses.

*****In Kentucky, the Equine Activity Liability Act (KRS 411.195) states that people who participate in equine activities, assume the inherent risks involved, including injury or death caused by the horse’s unpredictable behavior. As required by this statute, there is a warning sign posted on the fence at the main gate of the property, to the right of the designated parking area.

Farm life: This is a true country escape! Expect to see wildlife like deer and coyotes and plenty of bugs.

Security: For guest safety and farm security, there is an external Ring Camera at the back of the house, monitoring the garage entry (guests do not have access unless walking to the side). A Ring Doorbell is also located at the front door.

About the host

Host profile image
Welcome to the family farm! The house was built 8 years ago, and the property has been in my family for over 25 years. I’m excited to host you in the upstairs apartment, which was built in 2023. I’ve loved meeting new people from all over the world and sharing my farm and horses with them. It’s such a joy to show guests the peaceful countryside and offer a unique experience. I hope you enjoy your stay and feel right at home!

Why they chose this property

My farm is in a peaceful spot, not too far out but surrounded by rolling hills and open fields. It’s quiet and scenic, and the neighbors are all really friendly with a shared love for the countryside. What I love most about this area is the connection with nature—the fresh air, wide-open spaces, and of course, having my horses around. It’s such a calming place to be. If you're looking to unwind and enjoy some peace while still being close enough to town for convenience, this is the perfect spot!

What makes this property unique

What makes my property stand out is the unique blend of peaceful countryside and personal connection to the land. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a place where you can truly experience farm life. I’ve had the joy of sharing my horses and the farm with guests from all over the world, giving them a chance to relax, connect with nature, and get a glimpse of life on the farm. The fact that the property has been in my family for over 25 years also adds a special touch—it’s full of history and love, which I hope you feel the moment you arrive.
