About this property
Garden-Level Studio for 2 on the Harbor in Kittery, Maine!
Suite 19 is a simple, modern, art-filled studio for two, on the harbor in Kittery, Maine. Private entry, designated parking, and ample outdoor spaces to linger. Our home sits in a quiet neighborhood just a short walk across a bridge to Portsmouth, NH or the quaint Kittery Foreside (village).
Begin or end the day by the water, watching the sights and sounds of a lively harbor unfold. We are close to beaches, hiking, and top notch dining. This is a place to relax, unwind, and take a deep breath.
The studio has a comfortable queen bed, a wet bar for preparing simple meals, and a slate rain shower. There is a small table to dine at (or work, IF YOU MUST) as well as two comfy chairs for reading. You have an outdoor patio space of your own with a BBQ grill, and the owners have an outdoor shower for those after-beach rinses. There is an outdoor closet on the patio that stocks beach chairs, a small day cooler, a drying rack for wet bathing suits and sundry other items.
The yard and waterfront spaces are shared with the owners and their long term tenant but there is plenty of space for all. There is also a goofy dog and an old three-legged, blind cat who you may see or hear from time to time. Animal lovers only please!
Our guests love the proximity of our place for walking to shops, restaurants, and an area locals call "Gourmet Alley" which sports a green grocer, butcher, bakery, seafood market, and chocolatier.
The hosts love to help you design a perfect visit and are eager to provide recommendations.

About the host
Hosted by Celina

My husband and I have been fortunate to travel the world and we have experienced amazing hospitality in both austere and lavish places. We feel fortunate to live where we do and we simply enjoy sharing it with others. I’m happiest as a host when I can make simple gestures of welcome, a fresh flower, a cold drink waiting in the fridge. If guests want help planning a fabulous itinerary, given time, I also love to make bespoke recommendations.
We are (older but still) avid outdoors people and our favorite places to visit are remote. We even have an off the grid yurt in the mountains we retreat to quite often.
Cameron is a climate scientist and my careers were in education and philanthropy. We understand the impact of short term rentals on community housing stock. Our self-contained suite is our guest quarters when our family and friends visit. We wouldn’t rent it long term. However, we live in a duplex and our short term rental helps to keep our long-term rental reasonably priced.
We follow our guests’ lead so if you want to chat while we garden, great! If not, also perfectly fine. We want you to have the vacation you need.

Why they chose this property
Returning East after a few years in San Francisco, about 30 years ago, I found a great apartment in a duplex on the water. As a young married couple we were able to convince our elderly landlord Cy, who built the house during WWII, to sell it to us. Later we purchased a small lot across the street. It’s no exaggeration to say we count our lucky stars each and every day.
We live in the “donut hole” on a quiet avenue on a peninsula on the River. The river is sometimes quiet and sometimes riotous with sound.
We know most of our neighbors by name. People walk across the bridge from Portsmouth to “do our loop” so, it’s quite close to the small maritime city of Portsmouth, NH.
Over 30 years we have turned a bramble patch into flower and vegetable gardens. Most warm months of the year we start or end our days either on our deck or harborside. See what I mean? So lucky.

What makes this property unique
A nook on a small bay in the Piscataqua River where we watch tankers pull into port, but also see seals and foxes.
We are about a mile to Market Square in Portsmouth or the small village of Kittery (next to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard). In the summer my dog and I walk on the local beaches most days. Close proximity to great good, hiking, and cultural events.
