About this property
Margaretaville in Key West
This 2 bedroom, 2 bath home instantly transports you into the Key West lifestyle with its living space, balcony, and deck overlooking a spectacular pool and tropical garden. Not only is the home ideal, but the quiet Old Town location also couldn't be better for access to all there is to see and do on this paradise island. From the street what you see is picture perfect: a freshly painted sky-blue house with complimentary dark blue trim and plenty of green foliage.
Up a few stairs to the front porch are several chairs and the promise of a relaxing, shady place to sit to catch the morning or evening breeze, or to watch locals stroll by.The inside is open and airy with cathedral ceilings and ceiling fans that create cooling air circulation throughout. The living room features a couch with comfortable cushions. The wide seat makes it easy to curl up to read or watch movies on a flatscreen TV, which is perfectly placed for viewing. Of course, there's central AC, and high-speed internet. There is no cable TV in the home - only streaming via Amazon Fire TV Sticks. You must have your own subscriptions and/or access to your own apps to stream any TV. The ratan coffee table is there to hold accoutrements like a magazine, book, or tray of snacks. To the right of the living room is the first of two bedrooms. This one has a comfy Queen bed with plenty of closet and drawer space for hanging and folded items. As a big bonus, a door from here opens into a small side deck, the perfect spot for morning coffee in your bathrobe.Next in the floor plan, conveniently located for bedroom and for living room access too, is a full bath with a colorful mosaic-tile shower. In the same hallway are entries to the laundry room and the kitchen. The utility room has a washer/dryer with a roomy shelf above for detergent, spot remover, etc. The kitchen is nicely organized in a U shape, a layout that plays a vital role in the overall ease and functionality of meal prep. With counters and shelves on three sides, there's plenty of space. Part of the counter on one side can also serve as an eating area or desk area with four counter chairs. Sit here for a sandwich, leftovers, or a pizza you ordered. Cabinets and shelving above and below help avoid clutter yet pots, pans, dishes, and such are conveniently close-at-hand. All the kitchen appliances for cooking and for cleanup are ready for your use. To the delight of anyone standing there, the window over the sink looks out onto the deck and sparkling pool. The sink window opens to create an easy pass-through to the pool area.Back tracking to the living room, you find a set of stairs leading up. The master suite is located on the 2nd floor. Like the bedroom on the first floor, this one has a very comfy Queen bed that assures a great night's sleep. It also has its own full bath and large closet. Best of all it has a private balcony overlooking the backyard and pool. Back downstairs, beyond the kitchen, two French doors open outward onto a covered deck which functions as another room of the house with rug, dining table, and chairs, a lamp table, and delightful Key-West-centric artwork. Beyond the deck is a magnificent banyan tree, close cousin to the largest banyan tree in the US also found in Key West. Other landscape plantings create a green oasis near the tree. But the best part is still to come--the deck and large, in-ground heated pool. Fencing around the property, and especially for the deck and pool, creates privacy, a feeling of exclusivity, and of good fortune. The perfect place to swim for exercise, float leisurely, or work on a tan in one of the cushioned chaise loungers or chairs while watching puffy white clouds float over in a blue, blue sky.Had your breakfast and a quick morning dip in the pool? Maybe it's time to explore more of Key West. The close-to-everything location of this home makes it so easy. You can walk or bike or take a pedicab to all the important spots. Facing out from the front door, straight down Southard about 4 blocks brings you to Duval. Or five blocks to the right brings you to the Historic Seaport and Harbor Walk, one of the most scenic strolls in town. Follow the wooden boardwalk along the Gulf of Mexico to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset cruises. Or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas or book a fishing charter. If you're interested in watersports, you'll find the variety you probably expected: diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, jet-skiing, and more. If you get hungry, a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality ring the harbor like Raw Bar, the Boathouse, and Schooner Wharf. In a few more blocks you're on Duval, where you'll find access to tours, beaches, museums, water sports, shopping, bars, and over two hundred restaurants, many with open-air seating, some right on the water. There are always plenty of cultural activities such as live music, art exhibitions, and plays. Perhaps catch a movie on one of the three screens at the Tropic Cinema. Or stop in at Books & Books to catch a glimpse of the famous author Judy Blume stocking the shelves. If you like beaches, one of the local's favorite is Fort Zachery Taylor, where you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment. Bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, and picnic tables are also available. Or maybe you'll decide to skip the beach to explore the adjacent Civil War-era fort, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973.Be sure to check your phone for sunset times so you don't miss the world-famous celebration at Mallory Square. Be there as locals and visitors alike gather seven days a week, 365 days a year, to witness the sun sinking into the horizon. Be sure to applaud as the last round edge of fiery orange disappears. If you're lucky, maybe you'll see the elusive green flash and claim bragging rights for years to come. Then stick around as artists and street performers entertain the enthusiastic crowd with performing cats, fire eaters, musicians, fortune tellers, and more.If this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don't miss anything. To know what's going on from day to day, you can check out Historic Hideaways' informative Area Guide/Events.
