Liked: Check-in, listing accuracy
Disliked: Communication
Property was gorgeous, great decor, lots of space for lots of people and we had a lot of fun there. The house did have quite a leaky roof though, we had leaks for the whole weekend. Pots and pans were laid out in just about every room. Some beds and furniture were shifted to avoid being rained on while we slept. We tried to communicate with the host about the leaks and several other things after arriving and never heard back. Zero communication. Would definitely go back to Nola and visit with my friends again, but, we would find a different place to stay for sure.
This stay was perfect for our bachelorette trip of 9! The kitchen/dining area and outdoor by the pool were utilized the most but you could spend hours just looking at everything in this house. (So many cool books and antiques) We really appreciated how easy check in and out were. The shower room on the first floor was slightly tricky to figure out but was a hit overall. Ubers to the French quarter are easy and cheap but we were also able to walk to the trolley.
We were disappointed with the condition of the property. Clearly the house is not cleaned well in between guests, as we found a vape pen, empty cans, an open cocktail, a bag of gummies mushrooms, glass shards, empty cans, cigarette butts and other items left throughout the property. Given that we were traveling with children, we found this particularly concerning and, frankly, unsafe. We notified the property owner, and while a second cleaning was arranged, it did very little to improve the overall condition. The floors remained extremely dirty, and the mop and bucket did not appear to have been used. In fact, an empty beer can that was already sitting in the bucket when we arrived was still there after the cleaner returned. We also specifically reported broken shards of glass on the kitchen floor. Unfortunately, this was not addressed by the cleaning staff. The glass was only taped off several days later when a maintenance person came to the property. Beyond the cleanliness and maintenance issues, the overall presentation of the property was also disappointing. The Playboy bunny imagery on the doors, along with the various speaker, lighting, and equipment mounts throughout the house, gave the property an atmosphere that felt more geared toward an adult-oriented rental than a family vacation home. Had the property been represented this way, we would have made a different decision about staying there with our children.
Visited the mansion with a group of girls and we absolutely loved the space- somehow, it’s even nicer than the pictures showed and I am so glad we found it.That being said, I gave the listing 3 stars due to inappropriate interactions with the property manager, Carl. He entered the mansion THREE times unprompted- without even knocking and without permission. He was polite, but this kept happening… The first time he barged into the dining room and claimed to be ensuring the door was properly locked. The second time he barged in with a stranger and claimed that he thought she might be apart of our group because she was looking for her phone from a sorority party nearby. The third time, he opened the gate to the backyard where the swimming pool is and asked to borrow the grill. We asked him for help taking a group picture and instead of saying “say cheese” he joked that we should say “beads” and lift up our tops to “fit New Orleans tradition.”Overall the property manager left my group feeling incredibly uncomfortable and slightly unsafe. Every other aspect of the house and space itself exceeded expectations.
We rented this home for Mardi gras week to host out of town guests. The house was lovely, historic and well furnished. The beds were comfortable and the house stayed cool. The host was easy to communicate with and accommodating of requests. Our only wish was that there was more serving platters, tongs, etc available as we had a large group that enjoyed the fabulous kitchen most nights. There was plenty of space to spread out and even the large room with shared beds was spacious for our group. Since most of my guests were from up north, the pool was greatly appreciated and used. The privacy of the outdoor space was amazing for relaxing in the evenings. If you’re from out of town, make sure you check out the area as this isn’t the garden district, it’s on the edge of what most locals would consider a questionable walk at night. But for our group of well travelled and seasoned adults, it was perfectly fine and made for a lovely trip for my guests.
