The property and cottage were very nice. We had an issue with paper products which was quickly resolved by the hostess. I would recommend detailed instruction regarding lighting the BBQ be left-you must open the propane very slowly. It was even more beautiful than the pictures. Sunrises were spectacular. Bring bug spray as the mosquitos were bad. A fun vacation all in all.

The photos don’t do it justice! What a gem of a place. My husband and I stayed here with our small dog. Wow factor when you drive through the laneway and enter the property. The place was so clean and well cared for. We stayed in 5 places during our maritime road trip and this place was the best. Wish we could have stayed longer! Close to Charlottetown and all amenities you need in Cornwall nearby. Loved the extra vanity area for getting ready as there is only one bathroom. You can tell this is a loved and cared for property. You should stay here for the peace, privacy and tranquility alone. Hope to be able to return!

Beautiful Spot

Wonderful property which is secluded enough to have complete privacy, large yard area, excellent fire place. The house itself is beautiful with all modern amenities but still retains that country style feeling especially with the wood covered walls and decore. Check in was a breeze and everything that was needed was available to use. Would highly recommend especially for a family stay.

PEI paradise

The Old Dominion property was a perfect location with beautiful views of the bay. The decor was unique - modern amenities but antique furniture from the original homestead. Close to a variety of restaurants with incredible seafood. The only inconvenience was the location for disposal of trash at the end of the stay. We recommend this property for an ideal stay on gorgeous PEI.

PEI Experience a Treasure

3 of us visited PEI in September and stayed at this VRBO for 4 nights. It was wonderful- the property was a joy to walk around and we managed to get into the hammocks! The house is tastefully decorated, comfortable furniture and beds plus a great kitchen. The host Lisa was very responsive with the few questions we had. Having it set so far back from the main road gave it such a quaint appeal- it was a wonderful experience!

Westville Vista

The setting is the epitome of peaceful. A beautiful location on beautiful PEI. This was our second stay at Westville Vista. If one is looking for a well-equipped accommodation near Charlottetown, but close to golf courses, beaches and services, this property is a great choice. The owner was accessible and responsive when needed.

Fantastic Stay

We had the most wonderful stay here. There were five of us- parents, kids, grandma, and it was everything we would want. The house was immaculately clean, the view spectacular, peaceful setting, everything we needed to cook a meal including a brand new grill, chairs on the porch to drink coffee on in the morning. The mosquitoes were a bit burdensome, but nothing Off couldn't help with. We all felt relaxed and refreshed upon departure. We would definitely stay again! Thanks Lisa!

Absolutely amazing property!

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful property. The grounds are meticulously manicured with plenty of seating, swings, and a fire pit outside, although given all the rain we were unable to be out as much as we would have liked due to the mosquitos. The sunset over the soybean field was beautiful. The big windows provide beautiful views of the water. So serene and peaceful. The house is spit spot clean and we found it to be very comfortable and inviting. The high end, modern conveniences and great craftsmanship and the decor was amazing. Lisa has blended clean and modern with antiques and her personal touch in a very classy way. we didn't even mind having a rainy day staying in to enjoy the place. The home is very well stocked, and Lisa is very generous leaving so many items from kitchen and cooking items to bath goods and even laundry detergent. We really appreciate you sharing your place with us and if we are ever back in PEI we'll be knocking on your door again. Thanks so much!

The property was lovely. Very private and peaceful. View was amazing. The cleaniliness of the unit was sub par. The dust on the ceiling fans and furniture was awful. Dead bugs in all the sliding glass door tracks. Towels had been left in the washer so smelled very bad when we realized it was there and had to be washed again.

Just Amazing

This location is dreamy! Perfect to let the kids run wild and play. And we were very happy that our dog could also tag along. The swings on the big old trees were so thoughtful. It’s close to groceries/liquor store/pharmacy. We shall be booking here again in the future!

Gorgeous property with everything you would need in a home away from home. The property was a stunning sight to see on its own. There is path cut through the field to allow access down to the waterfront area which was a wonderful way to watch the tides come in and out. We didn't have any children with us but it is set up very thoughtfully for a large family and kids enjoyment. Our whole group enjoyed seeing all the items incorporated into the home from the old farm house that was once on the property. Lisa has created a true gem for those visiting PEI.

Quiet, private, lovely

Easily the nicest house we stayed in on our trip. Very comfortable, well-appointed and well-maintained. The kitchen is well stocked if you like to cook, and the dishwasher was a nice plus. Very comfortable beds, sofa, and chairs. Plenty of room and privacy for us, two couples traveling together. The setting is beautiful with a distant view of the water and absolutely no neighbors. We would have loved to take advantage of the fire pit and outside areas but had to pass because of the only negative aspect of this place: the hordes of ravenous mosquitos. (At one point we made a game out of counting them clinging outside the window screens.) This was in late June; maybe it’s better at other times? We still happily gave this place 5 stars because it really is lovely, and there’s only so much anyone can do about the bugs. (A screened porch would be amazing!) We had a great time and would certainly stay here again!

Outstanding!

This cottage exceeds expectations. It’s beautiful and very clean. You find everything you need even games and toys for kids. The outdoor area is beautiful and very well maintained. Communication with the host is very easy although you might not need to, because everything is clear in terms of checking-in and finding your way around the cottage. I highly recommend this place and will definitely stay there again.

About the host

Hosted by Lisa Lynn MacEwen

Host profile image
My name is Lisa MacEwen and this land has been in my family for over 200 years. I grew up down the road and this property was the site of a Homestead, built in 1805, by my Great Great Grandparents and later lived in by my Great Aunt Elizabeth MacEwen.
I live in Toronto with my 2 children. I built this home in 2012 to enjoy a little peace of heaven for ourselves each year for several weeks in the summer.
This is a special place with some of the oldest Chestnut and Linden trees in PEI, dating back to 1914, (which my Great Uncle brought back from California, to plant, before he headed of the WW1, where he was MIA and never came home. His memorial is at Vimy Ridge; France).
After unsuccessful attempts to save the old Homestead, I decided to demolish it and built a brand new modern, modest but spacious and cozy home. I was able to save some pieces from the old Homestead that were incorporated in the decor and construction to give this new place some traditional character. Although I own other waterfront land on the Westriver, I chose to build here, as this land has a special, tranquil and peaceful energy to it, with a view! Every time I come home here, I don't want to leave!

Why they chose this property

The water on the South Shore is warmer and safer than the tourist popular Northshore. Canoe Cove, 5 minutes away, is one of the most popular south shore beaches known for its safe water, tide pools and red cliffs. You can also have you own private access to the West River in front of the property where you can explore by digging clams, oysters and mussels. The property also has hammocks, 7 adirondack chairs around a fire pit, volleyball/badminton nets, tire swings, swing, horseshoe set.
Please note that 'Fiona' hurricane of 2022 did extensive tree damage to my property. While it is still very beautiful, I did lose three of my majestic trees and dozens of evergreens along the laneway.

What makes this property unique

Please understand when booking this property that it is rural, surrounded by farm land and on the westriver and the inlet. PEI is known for mosquitos, especially rural properties. I spray for mosquitos 4 x a season. It definitely helps but does not get rid of them. I am always surprised when this is mentioned in reviews as it is clearly mentioned in the property information that is sent out and in the description. I also cannot control if wasps decide to make a home in one of my trees - just saying! These things are managed as best I can within reason to respecting nature.

NOTE: I have travelled extensively and have stayed in Airbnb's in over 10 countries. I never fuss or complain if they don't leave me paper towel. I am satisfied with one roll of toilet paper and one extra. I have also never been set up with coffee or any spices, which includes salt and pepper. I expect to go to a supermarket on the day I arrive to buy my basic supplies, which includes extra toilet paper and paper towel.
I provide more amenities at my properties than I have ever experienced at any Airbnb that I have stayed in. This includes dish and laundry soap, ample supply os dish cloths and towels, spices and many countertop kitchen appliances. So, as a Friendly Reminder; You have not booked a hotel stay where you have daily cleaning service and unlimited supply of paper products. I start my guests with one roll of toilet paper plus three extra double rolls, (equivalant to 8 single rolls). If this does not suffice, please do not publicly complain. I do not charge hotel prices therefore please understand the difference. A hotel would not provide you with private outdoor seating, hammocks, bbq and a firepit with seating, on a secluded private oasis that is not shared with anyone else. I am happy to provide unlimited paper products and coffee and even firewood and charge an additional $200.00. for this service. Does this make sense? Thank you for understanding the difference.
