Come stay in this quiet retreat, located outside of Gardner, Colorado in an area known as Malachite. This home was remodeled in the 90's joining two adobe structures from the 1880's, beautifully blending historical construction with modern day amenities. With 16" thick adobe walls you will be cozy in the winter and cool in the summer, surrounded by picture windows to take in the scenery and local wildlife (deer, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, hawks and owls.) Dogs are allowed with approval and fee. The space The house includes a spacious, well appointed kitchen and dining area, four bedrooms (one bedroom is accessed through another bedroom), two full bathrooms, a laundry room, a living room and a small sitting room. The surrounding yard is spacious and the closest neighbor is a quarter mile away providing lots of privacy. We want to note, for people with insect sting alergies, that there is an historic beehive in one of the trees out front that have not been a bother to tenants.
If you are looking for additional accommodations, we also have the Starlight Cottage and Star Bungalow on Airbnb. Guest access Guests have access to the entire house but do not have access to the attached garages or old stone school house. Guests are welcome to wander the surrounding property as long as they stay within the property boundaries as indicated on the map in the Welcome Book at the house. Other things to note The occupancy of the guest lodging at the standard rate is seven people. Any gatherings beyond that number must be coordinated with the Host in writing before happening and will have a $10/person/night extra charge for up to 3 additional people in the house.
RVs may also be used at the house in addition to full-rate rental. There is a $25/night fee, which includes permission to hook up a hose and extension cord to the house. Secluded, no tv’s, it’s the first time we ever spent NYE like this, but it was a perfect way to start the new year. I think even my teenagers were in bed by 11pm, we woke up refreshed and went to Great Sand Dunes. Please stop in town before proceeding so you can get food and needed items, it’s about 38min to Walsenburg or really anywhere else from the home. Once you’re there, you’re good though.
