About this property

The Inn at Southern Oaks located in Historic Lavonia, GA, close to Lake Hartwell

The Inn at Southern Oaks, built in 1918, is a charming Southern Inn in quaint historic downtown Lavonia, GA. Surrounded by grand oak trees, it is a complex of a restaurant, speakeasy, wedding venue, and a cozy inn. The two hotel wings blend seamlessly with the historic main house, offering classic charm and comfort. Rooms for rent are located in the hotel wings. In fact, Tommy Lee Jones stayed in Room 5 (Ty Cobb Room) during the filming of the movie "Ty Cobb”.

Just 1 mile from I-85 and walkable to Lavonia’s historic downtown and old train depot, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a touch of Southern history and hospitality. It is 15 minutes to Lake Hartwell, Tugaloo State Park and Victoria Bryant State Park. The area boasts some of the best hiking, waterfalls, and golf.

Each room in the hotel wing has a queen bed, and its own ensuite bathroom. Bedrooms are equipped with a TV, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker.  Bathrooms are newly renovated with a spa like walk in shower with rain shower head. Each room has an individually curated theme. These include Garden Room, Beach Room, Parisian Room, Lake Room, Ty Cobb Room, Provence Room, Safari Adventure Room, and Asian Room.

The complex has a grill and outdoor table and chairs, as well as a fire pit for guests to enjoy. Circa 1918 Dining is located in the historic Manor house. It is open for brunch and dinner on weekends, and lunch and dinner on most week nights. Our executive chef is on the board of a local culinary school, and has prepared signature Southern dishes with a contemporary twist. The Old 18th (named after the 18th amendment that ushered in the prohibition era) Speakeasy is the hidden gem that will complete your experience.

Come explore a historic Southern Town that was preserved by yesteryear, complete with train depot, and is the gateway to your lake and outdoor adventures.

About the host

A Southern boy from Nashville, TN, we moved to GA in 1998. We love traveling, exciting cuisines and outdoors. We have been coming to Lake Hartwell with our children for 15 years, and were always looking for charming establishments for lodging and food. We fell in love with this quaint town. Being a host and restaurant owner have enriched our lives in so many different ways, meeting new people, and hearing their stories. It a different way of traveling around the world while at home!

Why they chose this property

Lavonia is a quaint southern town with charming buildings and people. It is the gateway to Lake Hartwell. Nearby Tugaloo State Park and Victoria Bryant State Park offer a chance to relax with their many hiking trails, golf course, beach, tennis courts and even putt putt golf. The area is growing rapidly and we have opened our Inn at Southern Oaks to offer a more charming place to stay than a chain hotel.

What makes this property unique

Southern Oaks Inn is the first stop on Lavonia’s historic downtown walking tour. Over the years, so many stories and intrigues were told about the house. Are there any ghosts? What about the missing chandeliers?
We have a weak spot in our heart about old homes. Over the years, we have enjoyed restoring many old homes and bring them back to their former glory. My wife calls me a "Housaholic". We love Southern history and elegance. This particular house is so full of stories that we fell in love with it right away!
