We hope you will enjoy this home where Ernest Hemingway and Jimmy Buffet memorabilia welcome you into the abode our first guest affectionately called “The Writer's Retreat'.
This two bedroom, one bath condo with bleached grey hardwood flooring throughout is highlighted by a massive 65 inch Plasma TV loaded with thousands of movies at your fingertips. Relax on the designer furniture while enjoying the full collection of Hemingway's books or lose yourself in The Master Bedroom retreat which has been luxuriously decorated with 1000 thread count bedding on the Romantic Canopy Bed with French doors leading out to a spacious rear patio overlooking the pool.
The guest bedroom has two twin upgraded pillow top beds that can be converted to a King bed to accommodate a family or two couples. The King is stocked with a very thick down padding and luscious linens for maximum comfort. Enjoy the sounds of the keys or music of Buffet as the guest bedroom is decorated in tribute to crooner and the island lifestyle detailed in framed sheet music.
If staying in for the evening or fixing breakfast or lunch have fun in the 1950’s themed state of the art kitchen equipped with an imported European SMEG Fridge and Stainless Appliances. Likewise, the bathroom has been decorated in an art deco style typical of an earlier time in the Keys.
The front Family room area has features a queen sleeper sofa bed with a down pad and bedding for extra sleeping space. All pillows and bedding are down and of high quality in order to provide maximum comfort on your stay. Quite simply, we designed this home to fit in with the Keys lifestyle. It is bright, open and lends itself to a vibe which we hope catapults you to a great stay in our beloved Keys.

We loved our long weekend getaway. My family of 6 stayed for 3 nights this past weekend. The location is perfect and lots in walking distance. No worry about parking either. The pool and pool house were nice. Very quiet and clean. Condo was great for our shorter trip. Thank you!

Four sisters trip

Great location with use of the pool. Loved the second floor porches on front and rear of the unit. Tight bedrooms with one small bathroom. Cleaning crew was at our door at the 10am checkout time.

Great location for KW getaway

First time to KW and the location is great and we comfortably walked everywhere. Condo owner was very responsive to questions. Comes with small kitchen and fridge for cooking but we did not use it because we were only there 4 days. Condo did accommodate our family of 6 but it was small and tight. Would be perfect for 4!Thank you for the opportunity the place was great.JP

Great location

We love staying in the Shipyard and find it a fantastic location. This property was the best unit we’ve stayed in. Very clean and comfortable with awesome decor. One room is a little tight with the queen bed taking up most of the room but the bed and bedding were very comfortable so it was easy to forget. Highly recommended.

Great Location

Great location close to everything. Close to Duval but far enough way to be quiet. Short walk to the park to watch amazing sunset. 2 nice balconies to relax on, the one in back is very quiet and a nice place for morning coffee. Close to the pool. Lots of extras: laundry detergent, condiments, and kitchen stocked well.

Great location, clean, easy check in

Four of us women in our 40’s stayed here for a girls’ trip for 4 nights. The location is great to walk to most things. The condo was clean. I would stay here again. The only two things that put a damper on our stay was the pullout couch and not having two twin beds in one room as expressed. The pullout is for a child, not an adult, know that if you think and adult will be sleeping there, think again. Also, we wanted two twins and instead we had a king bed, so felt every single movement the person next to me was making all night. Other than that, all was fantastic. Very cute decor, clean and inviting.

Great Location, Cute Place but Tired

Pros: Great location, quiet neighborhood, close to all the fun, includes a parking spot, nice condo and amenities, balconies on front and back of house are a great place to relax Cons: Too much decor/oversized furniture makes space feel tight, items are very worn - place needs some tlc, paperwork outdated and color coding on keys is worn off, all shelves on door in fridge are cracked, faucet was leaking on check in - couldnt get ahold of property manager, received a call back regarding sending out a maintenance person but no one ever showed up, condo was still a little dirty on check in (grease on stove wall, half eaten food in cabinets), condo pool also a bit rough

Writer's Retreat Review

Well appointed unit. Only negative was no where did it say there was a switch needed to be on in order to activate wifi. Would be helpful if it said that in handbook in the unit and exactly where the switch is located. Also handbook didn't seem to be up to date with remotes for t.v. Each of these where remedied by a text message. Just could have been avoided if instructions were up to date in the handbook. You also need to know there are about 12 stairs to the unit in case you have someone who can't do stairs. Other than this the unit was very nice , located in a great area and we had a very pleasant stay.

Good location in Key West

We had a nice stay. The beds were very comfortable, and it was conveniently located to many walkable restaurants. The pool area was quiet, and we had everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the double balconies too. My only negative comment would be about the overall cleanliness. The bathroom, kitchen and floors were in need of more attention to detail by the cleaning staff. Overall, I would recommend the property, however the cleanliness was lacking as mentioned above.

Great location!

The Writer's Retreat was conveniently located near all of the Key West attractions we wanted to visit. Once we were checked in, we didn't need to move the car again until we left. The community pool was a great amenity and was located close to the unit. The apartment was the perfect size for our family of four.

Great location, Condo OK

We had high hopes when booking this property-- write-up and reviews looked great, location was ideal. On the plus side- the location of the condo was great--close to everything Key West has to offer within walking distance! Nice community with a pool. Parking is right out front. Condo itself was another story-- definitely didn't live up to the description- it needs some updating/up-keep. Check-in was an hour after contracted time (apparently the previous guests had a late checkout, to our detriment); freezer needs a serious defrosting; the bathroom towels (ostensibly white) were dingy and stained; many of the light bulbs were out; TV remote batteries were dead; the backs of the dining chairs were so loose they are a safety concern; porch furniture (on either deck) not as depicted- torn cushions on the front deck furniture.

This property is a smaller property, but is located in the nicest area of Key West. We believe you will find it has been decorated impeccably and is designed with vacationers in mind with the installation of items such as closet organizers to avoid crowding the rooms with unnecessary furniture. It is a clean and above all else fun place to stay as a family or as a couple's get away.

What makes this property unique

Our unit has a parking spot right in front of the front door and the back of our unit overlooks the pool area which is a gorgeous view. When comparing units available we found this particular unit to have a superior location within Shipyard as several overlook a parking lot or are in view of other unit's yards.
