Description
The rental is designed to efficiently use the space available and is approximately 300 square feet inside. This space a full bathroom, bedroom area, kitchenette, and outdoor patio. The washer/dryer is available for guest who stay 5 days or more. The owners live upstairs so some occasional noise is expected. However the owner maintains a quiet lifestyle and many guests have commented on how it's very peaceful/quiet after completing their visit. Street parking is free in front of the house and is fairly easy to find a parking spot. The back entrance to the apartment is approximately a one minute walk from the front street. Guests are able to enter this rental by walking down the adjacent ally and into the back patio. Guests will have to traverse down two sets of outdoor stairs in order to enter the basement apartment. I will be available through the VRBO app during the entire stay. Property is conveniently located between Capitol Hill East/H Street/Kingman Park Areas.
Getting Around
Uber and Lyft provide easy pickup and dropoff via car. You can also use these apps to rent bikes and electric scooters located with a few blocks of the house. Capital Bikeshare has a network of red colored bike rentals that can be rented through the Lyft app or Capital Bikeshare app. I recommend purchasing a day pass and touring DC via bike if you are comfortable with riding a bicycle. There are dedicated bike lanes all over the city. The city has a comprehensive network of metro stops that can get you within walking distance of many places in DC. Metro cards are needed to utilize this system. These cards can be purchased at any metro station. The closest metro stop is Stadium Armory approx 20 min walk away. Eastern Market and Union Station are approx 30 min walk away. Please refer to DC metro map for routes and stops. Biking or scootering to/from metro stop is also an option.
Other Things to Note
The back alley entrance is always accessible via walking. If you decide to drive through the ally to the back gate for loading/unloading, drop-off, pickup etc, please note that it is occasionally blocked at times on one/both sides due to construction, garbage/recycling pickup, or parked cars in the ally. This space is located in a private basement and guests will need to walk down an ally, through a back gate, and utilize a staircase in the rear of the house to access this area. This private basement apartment is part of a house where the occupants on the other floors have severe asthma. For this reason, there is a strict no smoking policy including e-cigarettes, cigarettes, vape, and marijuana. We also ask guests to refrain from burning candles, oil diffusers, and heavy spraying of air fresheners, perfumes, and cologne. The basement has a central HVAC system located in the basement closet - typical of houses that have basements. Guest may experience some white noise of the HVAC system running from time to time. This is about the same volume as a small fan. The system doesn't bother a majority of the guests but if guest are sensitive to this kind of noise, this apartment is probably not suitable for their stay.
