The Location: In one word, it’s fantastic. It’s a 3-minute bike ride to South Beach (the Atlantic). It’s a one-minute bike ride to the broad, separated bike path to Edgartown which is under 15 minutes pedaling away. The property the house sits on is also very private with very few other houses nearby. Looking from the main deck on the second floor of the house, one has a vista of trees and hills for over a mile with glimpse of Edgartown Great Pond less than half a mile away and fewer than half a dozen houses in sight!
The House: The house itself is very roomy, well designed, and in great shape. The rooms are all very spacious. The house is an “upside-down” house, that is, the living room, dining room, and kitchen are all on the second floor (as is the master bedroom) because that’s where the best views are. The master bedroom (with a bathroom en suite) is large with its own balcony (also accessible from the kitchen/dining area). The living room is gigantic, and all the second floor has lots of windows, so feels very light. A loft can be reached from the living area by a tight spiral staircase and has a double bed and two twins with trundle bets – great for kids. The first floor has another en suite bedroom and two other bedrooms as well as a large living area dominated by a pool table which our guests enjoyed using.
The decks of the house are simply great. Watching the sunset from the main deck outside the living room is a delight and dinner out there is glorious. A smaller deck (accessed through the master bedroom or the kitchen) is great breakfast area or pre-dinner cocktail area. Central AC in the house keeps it cool on the few really hot days. A fully enclose outdoor shower in the back is a treat coming back from the beach.
The Host: Denise was always easy to reach and very helpful. She had thoughtful suggestions and her follow-up was always reliable. She seemed eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
