What a glorious setting- villa located in a quiet area and high enough to benefit from any breeze - pool is divine .bedrooms spacious and comfortable. Staff are absolutely lovely - we will go back in a heartbeat.

Breathtakingly beautiful in every way!

Wow, where can I start? The owners of this property really are not telling the truth about Tara Garden. The property is simply stunning, the interiors are stunning, the location is stunning and pool amazing. The countryside around the property is beyond words. The sounds of the monkeys from the trees, looking for fruit to eat. The little chipmunks, the lizards going about their own business, the fruit bats swooping over the pool at dusk. The staff that maintain the property are discreet, respectful but work so hard to keep Tara Garden perfectly beautiful. The Chef prepared amazing food every day, catering to the desires of children that hated spicy food and only wanted familiar western dishes. But also to the adults who sought everything for very spicy to moderately spicy. One day we fancied a BBQ, and so a large butter fish was bought, marinated and cooked on the BBQ and it was amazing. The following night we had wild boar curry, again mind blowing. The property manager, worked with us to enable us to get the holiday structure we wanted. A great balance of lazy mornings and evenings, with interesting places and sights to see in the locality. He really cared about us seeing the beauty of Sri Lanka: meeting his temple elephants and the children feeding the female marshmallows while she took her bath; releasing baby turtles into sea on Bentota beach; boat trip to see lizards, birds and crocodiles; holding baby crocodiles; elephant safari; and watching monkeys eating fruit in Tara Garden's trees...... so much to talk about and yet we were only there one week. I can't recommend Tara Garden enough, and I have to say there is nothing negative I could say! Even the journey from the airport was comfortable and not too tiring. Met by Tara Garden's chef when we arrived with a cool glass of freshly squeezed juice. Tara Garden is a little slice of paradise for all ages......

Der Aufenthalt im Tara Garden war wirklich sehr schön. Der pool ist riesig und die kinder haben den sehr gut genutzt. Die Unterkunft war auch sauber und ordentlich, täglich wurde alles geeinigt und Shami hat uns bei unseren Unternehmungen immer unterstützt in der Umsetzung. Das Essen von Chef wurden immer unseren wünschen angepasst und war vorzüglich. Es wird viel Wert auf frische gelegt. Sudu war auch immer als Ansprechpartner direkt vor Ort, wenn es zu fragen kam und ist ein sehr toller Gastgeber. Das einzige was uns persönlich gestört hat waren die vielen Mücken und Ameisen, aber das hat nichts mit der Unterkunft zu tun, sondern ist der Lauf der Natur

Tara Garden is a jewel in a large garden with lots of exotic fruits. The 15m pool with its 30 degrees (or more, wonderful) warm water. The rooms are spacious, the master bedroom on the first floor is huge with a large balcony and seating area, 2 rooms with pool access and patio furniture. Perfectly cared for by Uncle, who cleans the pool in the morning when it gets light, then meticulously rakes up the leaves in the whole garden all day long so that the loungers by the pool are always on a beautiful lawn. Until he turns off some lights in the garden in the evening. Cucil, who appeared with coffee and tea as soon as we got up and then took care of the breakfast we had discussed the day before. We could have anything we wanted for dinner, too, except that a few ingredients weren't available, and he then made wonderful far too delicious meals for the three of us. We will have to go on a diet for at least 3 weeks. And then Chami, who waited all day with his TukTuk to take us somewhere. To the fish market, where we got the fresh prawns for dinner. To the great kilometers of beaches with nice bars and restaurants. For shopping for spices or souvenirs. To massages. He was also our guide on the excursions. And of course Sudu, who was always helpful with questions. It was a dream vacation. We'd love to come back

Tranquil Tara

A spacious relaxing villa nestled in the countryside and away from the hustle and bustle. All the facilities you could ever need in kitchen and bathrooms along with spacious bedrooms and lounge as well as a fabulous pool for swimming and lounging around. The villa is supported by a group of friendly and attentive staff. The gardens are kept immaculately by Isuru with plenty of fresh fruit and wildlife without leaving the grounds. A highlight of our stay was the 'Master Chef' Susil who was very humble and friendly yet extremely skilled. He cooked for us daily, asking us what we would like but also suggesting and creating delicious combinations - providing us with sumptuous banquets of fresh Sri Lankan and western food - post holiday diet definitely required after all that amazing food. The villa manager Shami and part owner Sudu were friendly, helpful. They were on hand to advise and answer any questions as well as organising and accompanying us on local and distance trips. A short tuk tuk or car ride away are local markets, waterfall, turtle sanctuaries, great beaches and plenty of water sports and when we did want to go further afield to the elephant sanctuary, Galle or Kandy it was easy to organise with Shami and Sudu. We had a fantastic 2 weeks here mixing lazy days by the pool with days of sight seeing. Airport pick up and return went smoothly and we had a fabulous holiday in the capable hands of Tara Gardens.

Dear Tara Garden team. Thank you for a great experience and hospitality. What a fantastic way to start our holiday in this beautiful vila with such friendly people. We feld so welcome and have enjoyed every minute of it. And the wedding party you took us to was also an amazing experience. Something we always remember like everything else you showed us. Amazing end to a perfect holiday!

Wow! Words can't describe what we were all thinking when we pulled up to this property for the first time. The photos do not do the property and its gardens justice. Our stay here was a truly wonderful way to end our family holiday after travelling around Sri Lanka for the past two and a bit weeks. It was an amazing experience to stay in this beautiful 'home away from home' with stunning gardens and attentive people who went over and above to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The chef, Susil, was exceptional chef cooking us all fabulous meals and even catering to the kids desire for all things chicken nuggets! We appreciated the flexibility provided to accommodate us and will be encouraging many more Aussies to visit this amazing place. Thank you for having us all.

Can't say enough

This place is fantastic. The setting is gorgeous -- mango/orange/banana/avocado trees, tea, cinnamon, & peppercorn bushes, etc. The rooms are clean and spacious. All rooms have their own bathroom. The pool is blissful. Monkeys are in the nearby trees, sometimes making an appearance on the property. A few fruit bats come in at night, which was great. What I can't say enough about is the service. Absolutely everyone servicing the property treated us like royalty. It was beyond expectations. The place is a bit remote (which was a blessing!), but they take you wherever you want to go; shopping / supplies is just a short ride away. There aren't restaurants within walking distance, but it doesn't matter, because you literally have the best chef in the country there hooking you up. He made anything we requested (and then some!!). Their kindness, service, and character would be hard to match. You won't be disappointed.

Tara Garden is as good as and better than the pics. The place is beautifully kept and the accommodation is excellent.The pool is perfectly situated with views of the jungle that are inexplicable. The best thing about this stay was the exceptional service and care we received from the staff. Sudu is the most patient person we have ever dealt with. The best tour guide and even better driver:) The rules of the road in Sri Lanka are strict and the traffic can be hectic. The food was beyond amazing.The chef Sousil is exceptional. Everything was perfect and more than enough to feed an army. We all got few pounds each :). Tara Garden is situated remote enough to feel the peaceful solitude and still close to the city, beaches... All in all, wonderful experience! We can by all means recommend staying in Tara Garden!

Close to paradise

Dreams have come true: from the very first moment we knew about Tara Garden untill our final night. Our idea was to really relax after a demannding trip in India, ideally a “Home for a week”. And this turned out to be Tara Garden, in all its aspects. Based upon the keyword Perfectionism. The house and its surroundings, so beatifully restored, together with the level of hospitality from the moment we arrived at the airport. Sudu overlooking it all most wholeheartedly, Susil preparing miracles in the kitchen or making Barraduda on the grill, Chsmi supporting and guiding whenever and Insuru making sure everything was all set around the house and after all meals. We can only consider this team to be Made as a Match Made in Heaven, close to paradise. We wish the team good times after all the hard work done in realising this wonderful place!

Beautiful location and incredible people

The tiring flight to the remote island was quickly forgotten, as soon as we landed we were greeted with a smile from our host Chamil, who was holding the Tara Garden sign. We were immediately fascinated by the upbeat and for us chaotic lifestyle of Colombo, but as we were driving away from the capital, the noise and the crowd disappeared with it. We entered this surreal village that seems somehow detached from the outside world. We were served a breakfast with the fresh local fruits. I may have been influenced by the beautiful suroundings, but that was the best pinapple and banana i've ever tasted. The villa is amazing and the pool is great. You can rest in the evening with a coctail next to the water. Every morning you are served fresh fruits. Thanks to Sousil you are eating like a king. He is not only a good cook but also a great person. He is charming, modest and always ready to answer all of your questions. He always plans ahead and adjusts his style of cooking to your taste. I recommend choosing the traditional local food, the srilankan cousine is very simple and delicious, always using fresh ingredients around you. Sousil will always impress you with his food. We went to the fish market. You should go early because later the good fish are sold and also the sun comes up. That was a great experience, you get to know their culture and also the fish are very cheap compared to european prices. Later we saw the turtle hatchery and the herbal garden, both were interessting and educational. In the afternoon we went to the incredible Bentota beach, a beautiful sand beach with warm water, which we later visited every day. If you want to swim I suggest you go in the morning when the water is calm. In the afternoon the big waves come. It's fun to be in the water with them but you have to be careful not to go too deep because of the currents. Sri Lanka is definitely a country worth visiting and Tara Garden puts you right in the heart of it. Sorrounded by the jungle, the rice fields and the tourist attractions, like the Udawalawa National Park, the river safari on the Bentota river, the Big Buddha Temple, Galle and others, you get to experience their culture with a luxourious touch from the newly renovated villa.

We are Kate, Primoz and Sudu. As creators and owners of Tara Garden, we joined the European model of comfortable accommodation with fascinating Sri Lankan traditions.

Why they chose this property

Sudu is an experienced manager of three luxurious villas and a wedding hall and has been running a successful business for 15 years. We fell in love with Sri Lanka in 2014, when we and our three kids were Sudu’s guests in one of his villas. He made sure that we had the best possible experience of this diverse country. We became enchanted by the animals, greenery, constant warm temperatures and most of all - people. Sudu has offered us an amazing personal insight into the lives Sri Lankans. After 14 days we weren’t leaving as tourists but as family.

What makes this property unique

We have decided to invest in renovation of an old colonial villa. With its quiet garden, tea plantation, rice field and variety of animals visiting daily, the property had a special positive and calming vibe. After 3 years of renovation Tara Garden was born. We kept the villa’s colonial design and enriched it with modern minimalism, comfort and spotlessly clean facilities. We made sure that ourselves and our guests will enjoy the western luxury in a Sri Lankan environment. Sudu is taking the best possible care of the house, garden, pool and other facilities.
