Everything about our stay was perfect. It's listed as the sanctuary and thats exactly what it is, a hidden gem that makes you feel far from the city. I also can't say enough about the Richard and Jeanne, they really know how to make you feel welcome. Thanks for the great stay! We'll be back!
We rented the Sanctuary to have a welcoming place to be able to spend Christmas with family in Detroit. It was perfect. The hosts loaned us some Christmas decorations and we put up a Christmas tree. The flock of wild turkeys was a bonus. We will stay there again when visiting family in Detroit.
The location was excellent and the home was very nice. They had all the comforts of home and the extra touches was over the top. From extra toiletries to kitchen supplies and even games for the family! Looking forward to another stay when we come back to town.
We loved this property and the owners! Would recommend to anyone.

GREAT SPOT!!
Nice place to gather with some friends and not have to worry about disturbing the neighbors. Thank you so much for having this property available for use.
A delightful cottage with deer and wild turkeys roaming the grounds
The hosts and house were the best I have ever encountered in my life ... delightful acccommodations and grounds, easy access to 696 and friendly nearby host Jeanne ... A wonderful week included a Tigers game, Detroit Zoo and Aquarium with Rain Forest Cafe. We really enjoyed this rental house experience.
Our hosts were very welcoming, helpful and accommodating ! The house was all we had hoped for and was described perfectly. Truly a great piece of property, and literally a "hidden" gem in the outskirts of Detroit. A great place for those looking for privacy, and a buffer from the city. Would highly recommend !
Very clean and quiet, backs up to the woods. Loved the mid-century architecture. Bathrooms and kitchen are very clean and cared for while retaining their true mid-century appearance. Very friendly hosts.
Totally private location with deer sightings throughout the day.
The owners are super friendly & responsive.
We especially enjoyed the fire pit!
The house is a short ride to downtown Detroit.
Highly recommend!
I came out here with a few friends to have a quiet weekend with a fire outside, but still wanted to be close to the city, so we can visit Eastern market and various breweries. This fit the bill to a T and then some! Great property owners, and, wonderful property - would do again!
We had a lovely stay in this secluded house charmingly furnished with interesting pictures and artwork. The house had everything we needed and provided a great view of the surrounding woods from the beautiful picture windows all throughout the house. We saw deer and wild turkeys! We could drive easily to our destinations and really enjoyed coming back to this comfy stay in the woods for our rest and relaxation.
Property is very quiet as it is off the proverbial beaten path. That said it is convenient for expressway traveling to and from the city. The house is older but comfortable. Beds were good. TV is a big screen and easy to use. No dishwasher was a surprise
What a lovely home! We loved the 1950s furnishings and huge windows looking out on trees, deer and turkeys. Jeanne and Richard were very accommodating and friendly. The house is incredibly well stocked-- so many extra pillows, blankets, cookware, games, books, etc. Everything you need! The location is perfect for access to freeways to Detroit and roads to other suburbs. We hope to stay again next time we visit family.
It is just a fantastic location. It is so surrounded by trees with a big lot of its own and there are woods all around it. You wouldn’t think of it when you are driving there…but then you are in your own little sanctuary.
The place itself is also wonderful. Spacious and well stocked. Lovely rooms and lovely living room with a fireplace and huge windows looking out to the trees on the back. We ENJOYED a thunderstorm with the fire on and what fun!
Hosts are both gracious and available and ready with info and anything you might need. Not intrusive either. Just a nice balance.
Many many thanks!!! I knew as we drove up that the place was going to be delightful. And it was.
Some really nice books too!

Step back in time
This spacious listing presented itself at the perfect time. The hosts were responsive to initial inquiries to include check in.
The landscape presented a wonderful backdrop and scenery for this space so close to Detroit. The kitchen and bathroom decor match the furniture and rest of the house furniture. In house laundry made it easy to travel light.
A misunderstanding presented itself on check in with kitchen housekeeping. Delayed communication on kitchen upkeep, items found in the refrigerator, and trash instructions upon arrival led to an uncomfortable situation until resolved through text messages with Jeanne and Richard.
We were grateful for the hospitality and beauty of this home. Its location allowed our family to handle our affairs in the short amount of time allowed in comfortable settings.

Landlord excessive involvement.
When I first Arrived Landlord was in unit doing laundry. The fridge was unplugged. Landlord lives next-door. Felt like they were watching me. Every time I would go outside they would be outside watching me in the backyard enjoying the fire pit. The landlord banged on the door at 8 a.m. the day of checkout and we’re in the driveway as I was loading my car at 10 a.m. I had three family members visiting one afternoon during my stay. We were all in the backyard. The landlord called and said my guests (who were not staying the night) were asked to leave the premises. The house was clean and well maintained. The backyard was great and have a bunch of nice games outside. The landlord made me uncomfortable the entire time.
This is such a lovely house! We were in town for a music festival and we needed a comfortable place to decompress and refresh. This home was everything we had hoped for and more. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and the entire house was full of cool art. I particularly enjoyed the diverse lighting options in each room- I could always get it just right for maximum relaxation. The back yard is spectacular as well. I am looking forward to returning with my son because it is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood. There are a bunch of kids riding bikes around and I'm sure he would like to play with them. I also recommend this place if you are in the area for business. There is a desk in the master bedroom in front of a huge window- it would be a pleasure to get some work done sitting there! It is easy to hop on the Lodge Freeway and we could zip downtown in 15 minutes. The owners live next door and they put a lot of care and love into this place. We had forgotten a few things and we were delighted to find that they had thoughtfully provided all sorts of miscellaneous items. Thank you to Jeanie and Richard for the hospitality!!! We loved staying at the house and we can't wait to come back!!!
Centrally located in a quiet culdesac. Clean with views of nature, deer and trees. Cute fireplace with comfortable furniture. Decor is a bit dated but fit the rest of the house.
Who would’ve guessed you could have a stay in a wooded area in metro Detroit where we saw a deer, an owl, and turkeys in our yard.
