Get away from it all and unwind at this comfortable riverfront vacation retreat. Located in a quiet neighborhood, Thurston Point Cottage offers a relaxing atmosphere with spectacular sunset views over the Annisquam River.

Inside, there are three bedrooms and 1.5 baths, along with a bonus enclosed sleeping porch overlooking the river. Mini-splits keep the house cool in the summer and warm in the shoulder seasons.

Sip a cool drink on one of the large porches and watch the boats go by or drive into downtown Gloucester or nearby Rockport to explore shops, restaurants, waterfront, and a vibrant arts scene.

Swim and kayak from the property or even fish off the deepwater dock, which can accommodate boats up to 18' and has a ladder on the side to make it easy to get in and out of the river for a refreshing swim. Either way, you'll enjoy the perfect summer escape!

Family Reunion

Delightful cottage for the 4 of us to attend our family's reunion. We enjoyed the beautiful view from the porch daily. The area is quiet and peaceful! Thank you for having coffee filters for us!

Charming cottage

Beautiful setting on the Annisquam. Lovely sunsets, marshes full of life. Kitchen has everything needed. We did have a problem, however. Nights were chilly and when we put the electric heaters on and then put on the tea kettle or other electric device, the fuse blew. This happened several times a day. Perhaps house needs another circuit especially when renting when nights are chilly. Other smaller problem was double bedroom upstairs had a closet that was not properly cleaned out--dead bugs & comforter thrown on floor. Might be good to also clean out medicine cabinet in upstairs bathroom. Overall, our group enjoyed ourselves and were adept at dealing with fuse box.

Amazing views and setting

We had a great time at this house. The house itself is not the stand out, but the setting is. The porch and the dock are spectacular and we spent hours just watching the boats go by and the sandbar festivities. We loved the ability to bring our own boat, dock it right at the dock, use it for Anasquam River cruising and beaching at Wingaersheak Beach. The property is also a quick drive over to shopping and downtown Gloucester.

Charming delightful cottage

This was such a precious cottage. Old and charming with everything you need for a delightful stay. We absolutely LOVED our time here. It was so well appointed that we canceled our final dinner reservations and grilled wonderful steaks just so we could enjoy it every minute more. I would stay here again next week if we could!

Great oceanfront getaway

My family and I had a great time! The house was spotless, though we truthfully didn’t spend much time inside. We spent most of our time on the porch enjoying the gorgeous views of the river or out on our boat which we were able to keep on the private dock. Communication with property management was easy and prompt. We will definitely be back!

Perfect in all weather.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It rained every day but we were able to sit on the porch and watch the boats going up and down the river. There was plenty of space inside as well for games, relaxing and enjoying one another’s company. We will be back!

Dream Vacation

We had an absolutely great time at the cottage on the Annisquam. We had our boat on the dock and was able to fish, go from sand bar to sand bar and explore different beaches. We ate every meal on the screened porch and spent lots of time in the rocking chairs watching sunsets and boats pass by. The cottage was spotless, and had everything needed for a comfortable vacation. We cant say enough about this gem!

The Cottage You Never Want to Leave

All of our needs were anticipated and fulfilled.The seaside colors each room was decorated with. Could catch the sun and the breezes from the porches; from the big one with six rocking chairs facing the Annisquam, to the two screened ones for smaller occasions. It was great to have the washer and dryer in the kitchen. An abundance of linens and bedding options. Yard nicely landscaped. I liked watching the different boats go to and from the harbor, and watching the birds--the egrets, cormorants, seagulls, mockingbirds, blue birds, sparrows going about their lives. Beautiful.

Our stay at Thurston point cottage.

Rating Details: I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was more than happy with the location. The vacation rental was very clean. The property manager was very helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: It was a happy vacation for our family of six. Luckily the weather was generally good. The kitchen was excellent. The bathrooms clean and up-to-date. The location of the cottage so near the water and the big porch were delightful, and we enjoyed the kayaks. Wish there had been a third kayak. We ate out at Gloucester's exceptional restaurants for about half of our meals, often on outdoor decks, so we were happy to have good weather in September. If you're asking for our suggestions as to improvements, frankly, you should improve the beds. One expects to sleep comfortably in this price rental. The flimsy SPRINGS on the double bed upstairs could not support the weight of a slim weight couple. It was like a hammock. The mattress itself seemed to be firm enough. Finally had to place the mattress on the floor, in order to get a firmer night's sleep. Also, the single bed mattress in the middle room upstairs was much too soft for a single, average weight male. He slept badly. If you want yet another suggestion: a grip-bar at the entrance to the upstairs bathtub would save a lot of worry about slipping. But this cottage is well-kept, and on a beautiful location near the water. We enjoyed our two weeks in beautiful, historic Gloucester. Manager responded on 10/14/2011: AVH is delighted to hear that your overall experience at the cottage was positive and enjoyable. It truly is a special place and well cared for. We sincerely appreciate your constructive feedback and in response, the property owners are aware and hope to remedy most of it this spring. Due to the fact that a box spring won't fit up the staircase, they are exploring alternatives to give more support to the mattress upstairs. Update: As of August 2012, the owner of Thurston Point Cottage has accomplished accommodating this house based on our customer's constructive comments. A new box spring has replaced the old wooden bed in the back bedroom which has made the room a lot more spacious. The old springs have been removed from under the double bed and it should be more comfortable. There is also a new mattress on the day bed downstairs. A peaceful retreat

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our stay at Thurston Point Cottage was my gift to myself for finishing cancer treatment, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The house is cozy, with a lovely retro kitchen and vintage furniture. The view is stunning, especially the sunsets. We spent our days in rocking chairs on the porch, watching egrets and cormorants skim the river. When we felt energetic, we took the kayaks out and paddled along the shoreline. On cooler days we sat in the screened porch and played board games. It was so different from our busy (and, lately, dramatic) daily life. and really gave us a chance to relax and recharge. Manager responded on 7/7/2011: We are so pleased that you found a comforting respite at Thurston Point and good for you for treating yourself after such a difficult ordeal. Absolute bliss!

We had wanted to be directly on the Ocean but Georgia described the river and Thurston House and we decided to go with it. I can't tell you how delighted we were when we arrived to see a very quaint and romantic cottage with a large verandah and peaceful views. The photos on the website do not do this cottage justice. We spent our days swimming off the dock, cycling to Gloucester and Rockport, dining and reading on the verandah. We made gourmet dinners each night and although the kitchen is quaintly dated, it was well appointed and had everything we needed. Thank you to AVH! We hope to return next year. Manager responded on 8/4/2011: So glad that you enjoyed Thurston Point! It truly is a lovely place that has all the amenities, but still retains its original charm and romantic atmosphere. Great views, not so great condition.

The property manager was more than helpful. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: fantastic to have your own dock and ability to swim right there. major beaches, markets and activities are quite a distance (though a small local beach is close. property is clean, well equipped, simple cottage. lovely though could use a bit of work in some areas. If your future needs include being closer to activities, you might want to consider the other properties we have in our rental inventory.
