About the host
Hosted by Christine and Tom Schiferl
We fell in love with Costa Rica years ago for its incredible biodiversity, healing energy, peaceful pace of life, and the warmth of its people. Casa Metta was created as a place where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the beauty of the jungle in comfort.
We spend our time between several parts of the world (Toronto, Mumbai, NYC) and always find ourselves returning to Costa Rica for its sense of balance between adventure and tranquility. Hosting allows us to share a place that has brought our family so much joy.
Our goal is simple: to create a space where guests can wake up to the sounds of the jungle, spend long days exploring waterfalls and beaches, and end the evening watching the sunset over the Pacific from the rooftop terrace.
We work closely with a wonderful local property management team who help ensure every stay is seamless, from airport transfers and private chefs to unforgettable tours and experiences.

Why they chose this property
We chose this location because it offers the perfect balance of privacy, nature, and convenience.
Casa Metta is located in Osa Estates near Uvita, surrounded by lush jungle and wildlife while still being just minutes from beaches, restaurants, and local markets. It’s common to see scarlet macaws flying overhead or hear howler monkeys in the mornings.
Uvita is known for its laid-back atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and access to incredible outdoor experiences, from whale watching and surfing to jungle hikes and waterfalls. Marino Ballena National Park, home to the famous Whale Tail sandbar, is just minutes away.
What we love most is that you can spend the morning exploring nature and still be back in town for a great meal or sunset on the beach.

What makes this property unique
Casa Metta was thoughtfully designed as an architectural retreat that blends modern luxury with the surrounding jungle landscape. The home’s flowing curves and architectural design were inspired by the natural shapes of the surrounding environment, creating a space that feels both sculptural and harmonious with nature.
Completed in December 2025, the home was built to maximize indoor–outdoor living, with open spaces that connect seamlessly to nature. The saltwater pool, rooftop terrace with Pacific Ocean views, and expansive outdoor areas allow guests to fully experience the beauty of Costa Rica.
Unlike many homes in the area, Casa Metta is easily accessible without requiring a 4x4 vehicle, while still offering the privacy and tranquility of a jungle setting.
We’ve also focused on thoughtful details. from whole-home water filtration and biodegradable products to concierge support that helps guests discover the very best of the region.
The result is a stay that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to nature.
