Charming, beautifully furnished, waterfront beach cottage on Madaket Harbor, steps to private beach and enjoy the best sunsets on the island! Perfect for families and couples.
Sweeping water views from the open living and dining area with cathedral ceiling; separate wet bar, updated kitchen; master bedroom (queen) with en-suite bath; 3 additional bedrooms (queen, bunks/single, queen) and 2 baths ; Outdoor shower. All bedrooms have individually controlled air-conditioning and ceiling fans. Abundant closet space and chest of drawers throughout.
Amenities include high-speed Wi-Fi , flat screen TV, Plenty of Deck Seating, gas grill.
You'll love this house and location!
You are greeted with a beautifully manicured private yard with mature plants, climbing roses, and herbs. The expansive mahogany deck with 3 seating areas and chaise lounges is perfect for entertaining and relaxing in the sun. Two full sized umbrellas over the teak dining tables provide shade so you can eat outdoors in comfort. The new walkway to the beach ends with additional seating overlooking the beach with steps down to the sand where there are 4 Adirondack chairs. 2 kayaks, one single and double, are waiting for you to explore Madaket Harbor. The beach is perfect for children as there are no waves and a gentle sand incline into the water. Plenty of beach chairs are provided and Madaket and Smith Point beaches are a short walk away. A private outdoor shower makes clean up from a day at the beach a breeze!

Even if your booking request is accepted through VRBO, it is not fully confirmed until the rental agreement has been reviewed and signed. Located at the westernmost part of Nantucket, Madaket is a quiet village with a laid-back vibe. The area is almost all residential, with only one restaurant, a small general store, and a marina. This area of the island evokes thoughts of how Nantucket was decades ago. One of the most famous islanders, Mildred Jewett, took residence in Madaket, hence the moniker Madaket Millie. Millie was a colorful character and volunteer Coast Guardsman for over 75 years. For more than a few of these decades, Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was her neighbor.
Beaches
Madaket Beach is well known as the best place on the island to see the sunset. About 6 miles from Town, getting there is easy by bike, the Wave (our local shuttle bus) or bring your car and park in the small beach lot. Get there early since it's a super popular beach all day long. Nearby Smith Point allows driving on the beach with an Over Sand Permit and a four-wheel drive vehicle.
Restaurant and Market
Another great spot to catch the sunset is from the deck of Madaket’s only restaurant, Millie’s. Enjoy delicious Baja-style tacos, quesadillas, salads, and po’ boys. Take in the fresh ocean air as you sit, sip, and enjoy their signature Madaket Mystery and Madaket Mule cocktails. Next to the restaurant is Millie’s Market where you can find all the necessities for a day at the beach. Especially enjoyable for the kids is to grab an ice cream from the market, while the adults can enjoy some beer and wine.
Activities
A few other favorite activities in the Madaket area are fishing, crabbing, boating, and navigating the curvy bike path that leads to and from Town. Exploring the sandy mores and walking trails are great ways to get some exercise and make sure to keep a lookout for large turtles by the bridge on S. Cambridge Road, heading over Long Pond.
