About this property
Ely Lakeside Cabin: The Perfect Northwoods Retreat
Ely Lakeshore Cabin on Shagawa Lake is your northwoods retreat for all seasons, blending its original charm of an authentic 1950s log cabin with tasteful modern comforts. The cabin invites you to step back in time while enjoying all the comforts of today’s conveniences. Ideally located just a short drive from downtown Ely, the cabin provides the perfect balance of peaceful lakeside living and easy access to local amenities. It comfortably accommodates up to six guests, featuring two inviting bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a well-appointed bathroom.
Summer
Nestled on the tranquil north shore of Shagawa Lake, it's the ideal escape to unwind and soak in the beauty of the Northwoods. Whether you prefer relaxing on the patio, fishing or swimming from the private dock, boating, canoeing, or simply admiring the scenic views, there’s something for everyone. The expansive outdoor space includes a large stone patio, a firepit, and a grill, all set along over 200 feet of private shoreline. The dock is perfect for fishing, swimming, or simply taking in the serene lake views, while canoes are available for guest use. The patio is ideal for grilling and outdoor dining, or for savoring a morning coffee as you enjoy the peaceful surroundings. As evening falls, gather around the campfire, make s’mores, and watch the moonlight reflect off the lake. For those seeking adventure, hop in your boat for a family outing at Semers Park or enjoy dinner at the Grand Ely Lodge. Both destinations are accessible by boat, with public docks and marina services for visitors.
Winter at the Cabin
When winter arrives, the cabin takes on a magical quality. Guests can enjoy the quieter side of lake life, stargaze under crisp skies, and cozy up by the fireplace. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do. Popular activities include ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. For a unique experience, book a dog sledding or guided ice-fishing excursion into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA). With direct lake access to snowmobile trails, the cabin makes a prime base for exploring the region. The Ely area trails are renowned for their quality and are rarely crowded, offering a special winter adventure for all visitors. The options for outdoor fun in the winter are endless.
Spring and Autumn bring a whole new vibe to the cabin. Wildlife and nature awakening for the warmer weather to come or preparing for the oncoming of cooler days. Things slow down during these times and allow guests to experience what the Ely area is like without the crowds of summer.
Abundant Wildlife
Wildlife is present throughout every season at Ely Lakeshore Cabin, offering guests a unique opportunity to observe nature up close. Each year, a pair of loons returns to the bay by the cabin, their distinctive calls echoing across the water and providing a true Northwoods experience. In addition to loons, guests can regularly spot bald eagles and osprey soaring overhead or perched nearby, adding to the area’s vibrant birdlife. The shoreline and waters are also home to playful otters and industrious beavers, whose activities can often be seen from the cabin’s windows or while relaxing outside. Sandhill cranes are another frequent visitor, gracing the area with their elegant presence. Multiple species of ducks are commonly observed right outside the cabin, making wildlife-watching a memorable part of your stay.
Inside the Cabin
The cabin’s cozy interior welcomes up to six guests, offering two comfortable bedrooms, as well as spacious living and dining areas. A single, well-appointed bathroom comes stocked with essential toiletries to ensure a pleasant stay. Each bedroom is thoughtfully decorated for restful sleep, featuring plush beds and bedding with a touch of rustic charm. For larger groups, a queen-size sleeper sofa is available in the living area. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your cooking and dining needs, including both Keurig and drip coffee makers for coffee enthusiasts, and a dishwasher for easy cleanup.
