Well for starters, the lockbox was attached to a subway sign right where a homeless man was posted up. He was actually vomiting when my husband went to retrieve the key from the lockbox location. I'm happy he did it, because I wouldn't have felt safe ir comfortable reaching around him to get to the lockbox. Next, the interior entrance to the building smelled of urine so bad. Then we go into the unit, and appeared clean at a glance until my son noticed hairs on the pillow cases, so i lifted up the comforters and noticed hairs there as well. I texted the property manager about it saying I don't think the sheets were changed, and Paul never responded. My husband and i could hardly sleep after that. We had everyone sleep on their towels and we wore our hats to sleep on the pillows. Also the shower head was broken and hanging, so you could only use it as a hand shower and the shower also had hairs in it. Fortunately we were only there overnight so decided to wait to shower until we got home. The good was it was a decent deal and in a pretty nice spot overlooking Macy's. But i am not sure how the ratings were so good. I booked this unit quickly seeing it was rated so high! Generally with a rating that high, we have always had a very clean unit with no issues at all. We wouldn't go back to this particular unit.
This was a photo of hairs on the sheets when I lifted the comforter. Hairs were everywhere though including sink, shower and other beds.

Communication was a HUGE issue from the start. No info email, so I messaged the host in the app and even contact VRBO directly. Then they ask to call 30 min before check‑in to plan a meet up. Odd, I asked for concrete details to avoid waiting in the cold, zero response. We're traveling and uncertain so booked a hotel the 1st night. Finally reached someone named Paul, he said cleaners were still in the apt and we couldn’t check in early. Not what we were trying to do. Told to use a lockbox by a subway entrance and sent a screenshot of the door... which didn’t match the address. The host literally gave the wrong address. We notified them by text and in‑app— shocker, ZERO response. The apt was freezing. If cleaners were there the day before, why wasn’t the heat on? After a week of record NYC cold, the place took 12 hrs to warm up. Listing says sleeps 10; we booked 8 nights/5 people and received ONE SET OF KEYS. No response about more keys. The kicker is, they did respond to some other questions but ignored any asking about slow heating or keys. They left 5 towels and 2 rolls of toilet paper. The towel rack is broken, the shower head base is broken so you have to hold it, the blow dryer doesn’t work, and there are no extra supplies—no hooks, nothing. It’s a shame because the apartment is cute, a good size for NYC, and in a great location, but the host completely ruins the experience. Too many other options in NYC to deal with this.
Broken shower base (left side)
Broken towel bar, no other rack.
Broken dryer and set of supplies for an 8 night stay.
