About this property

Unique waterfront house with private beach

The "Hangar on Howe"

Make some memories at this brand new, unique, and family-friendly place. Sit on the deck and enjoy the stunning views or venture to the private beach and enjoy the waterfront. This one of a kind property features 2 bedrooms and sleeps 6 comfortably. There is a full kitchen for indoor cooking and BBQ for outdoor cooking. There is a paddle board, kayak, firepit located beachside and another top side. There is a beautiful Cedar hot tub for those colder evenings and winter months, several firepits (waterside and topside) and beautiful views year round.

The building is located perched on top of the hill, overlooking the waters of the St Lawrence river. A roadway down provides access to a private pebble beach, firepit, chairs, and water activities. The water in this area is protected by a natural cove, and you can wade out 50 feet before it goes above 6 feet. Although water shoes are recommended, a short distance out you will find a sand bottom. The waters warm up enough to swim by July and stay warm well into September. This is a no smoking property.

Guests will have full access to the property, including the building, beach, bathroom bunkie and provided water activities.  There is also a pool table, 2 TV's, PS4 gaming system (with several games), board games, cards, and larger indoor and outdoor activities to keep everyone occupied.

Howe Island is on the gateway to the thousand island area. It is popular amongst tourists for it's stunning water views, and relaxing rural life. Farms and cottages dot the island, which can be accessed by two ferries which serve it year round.

Cycling is common on the island. The township ferry is a five minute drive to the east, while the County ferry is 10 minutes to the west. The fee for either is $10, which covers the return trip off the island. The ferries offers seamless drive-on, drive-off access to the island 24/7/365.

The roadway down to the water is fairly steep and not recommended for anyone with physical limitations. There are stairs down to the water as alternate access, with 77 steps in total.

Lots of positives - pool table, 2 televisions, a/c, dishwasher (which was a bonus) private location, firepits at all levels on property made for an enjoyable stay. Host was always prompt at answering all questions. Access to the water was steep but with the stairs it was doable. Would certainly recommend.

An enjoyable stay at the Hangar

A fantastic place to stay while enjoying the Thousand Islands. Beautiful accommodations with everything you need to enjoy your stay. We enjoyed paddling around the island and having watching the sun rise on their front deck. The path to from the house to the river is quite steep so may not be great for those with mobility issues. Owners were very responsive and we look forward to seeing what they do with the place over the upcoming years.

Cozy and Clean

Beautiful surroundings and everything you need to enjoy the beautiful St. Lawrence River. Our extended family was up and our cottage down the road was full. This was a wonderful space to be close to family and still have privacy, quiet, and all the conveniences of home. Well appointed, clean and very responsive host. If the situation arises again and we love our family so we hope it does - we won't hesitate to return. Well done!

Harbor House

Had a lovely time. Property was very clean and kitchen was well stocked. Wanted a quiet getaway away_and this was near perfect. Reviewers are correct that there is a steep incline to the water which may not be for everyone but the deck with water view was great. And the waterfront was worth the hike if you can. Water so clear and temperate. Kayak/paddle boarding great fun, particularly for our twin 18 year olds. Gananoque is a quaint little town, a ferry ride 20-30 minutes away, nice to window shop.

Great place!

I came with my wife, 2 kids, and 2 dogs. The rental was great - place was clean and we felt right at home for our week-long stay. We especially loved the hot tub and inflatable paddle board. They provided hours of entertainment! It is a fairly big and steep hill to the water, but the owners are in the process of installing stairs which was very helpful. The water was beautiful and it’s a great spot to swim or paddle around Howe Island. Highly recommend bring groceries to the house. Getting into town requires a quick ferry ride (which is very neat and the town of Gananoque is lovely to walk around and they have a nice beach) but just takes an extra step to get there. Speaking of, we also highly recommend the boat cruise in town :)
