Vernon, Georgia and Brewton Parker college, 15 min. to the sweet Onion capital of the World, Vidalia, 1 hour 37 min. to historic Savannah and only 2 hours to the coast. Twenty seven minutes down the road is a boat landing at the Altamaha River and Benton Lee’s Famous Steakhouse on Grays Landing Road just 8 minutes south of Cedar Crossing, Georgia where you will find you are truly one with nature. Whether you are visiting the college, coming to hunt in a pine thicket or want boat access to fish, a memorable dinner at Benton Lee’s or are on your way to the beach and just need a rest from your travels, come stay with us!

Welcome! I live in Macon, Georgia, about 11/2 hours from Ailey where my mom grew up, and my extended family have lived for generations. I love nature and the outdoors. I grew up visiting my grandparents in Ailey every summer fishing, smoking foxes out of dens, riding horses, etc. Ailey is a taste of the way life once was. It is quiet and peaceful, but there is always fun to be had. Gathering with friends, playing cards or jamming music are all part of the charm. Big Al’s is a spot to find a home-cooked meal for breakfast or lunch and the famous Bento Lee’s Steakhouse is on the Altamaha River down the road. I love to play Pickleball. You can find some Pickleball courts in nearby Vidalia where they host “The Sweet Vidalia Onion Pickleball Tournament “ each year.
What makes this property unique
Ailey is truly a magical place. Ailey was named after my great aunt Ala. Flora Peterson married into the McNeil family from Argyle Scotland, bringing the music and customs of the Scotts, who originally migrated to Cape Fear, North Carolina after the Battle of Culloden. Following the American Revolution and needing some distance the McNeil’s moved to the piney grove of South Georgia joining with the Petersons. My great grandparents raised 10 children at the “Old Place” on Petross Road. The Petersons and their descendants still have a reunion there every July complete with redheads and good cheer. The antique building on the corner of Railroad Street and Broad once housed the Montgomery County Bank(which has a colorful history of its own), my uncle’s doctor’s office, a pharmacy, and my grandfather’s insurance agency. The legends and tales that abound in and around Ailey are truly fascinating and rich in history and personality.
