The “Kornspeicher” (Grain Storehouse)
…the name is no coincidence, because the attic of the Lindenhof, where this holiday rental is located, was originally used as a storage space for the harvested grain—in other words, the “Kornspeicher” used by the farmers who lived there generations ago. Until 2001, the Lindenhof’s former granary was used solely as a regular storage room. Then this part of the Lindenhof was restored to use: Almost everything above the ceiling of the upper floor was demolished and completely rebuilt. Even during the reconstruction of the old granary, we made a point of using as many historic building materials as possible to give the living spaces a very special charm. We were very fortunate to find old, fired clay tiles for the very large living-dining room and two bedrooms—tiles that had actually been part of a granary about 200 years ago. In the kitchen and the third bedroom, solid oak ship deck parquet flooring was installed, which also came from a demolition project. The granary is the largest holiday rental at the Lindenhof and is accessible via an outdoor staircase. It has a floor area of approximately 120 m² and, as mentioned earlier, is located in the attic. Although all rooms have sloped ceilings, they are nearly fully usable thanks to the high knee wall and the two large dormers. The three bedrooms in the Granary provide ample sleeping space for 7 people. The two large bedrooms are each furnished with a very nice double bed (180 x 200 cm). One of these bedrooms features a large dormer window and floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a beautiful view of the surrounding meadows and forests right from the bed. This bedroom also includes a single bed. However, “stargazers” should opt for the other large bedroom, as the bed there is positioned directly beneath a 140-cm-wide skylight offering an unobstructed view of the night sky. The small bedroom has two single beds arranged in a corner, measuring 90 x 200 cm and 100 x 200 cm. The bedrooms are complemented by antique wardrobes and an antique chest of drawers. If there are more than 7 guests, the couch can be used as a bed, or an additional guest bed can be set up. The living-dining area, at approximately 45 m², offers space for both a large, rustic dining table (100 x 200 cm), which can seat up to 8 people, as well as for a very spacious living area, which can be used, for example, for cosy TV nights with the large flat-screen TV or for long winter evenings in front of the large wood-burning stove. From the living room, you also have access to the 12-square-meter balcony with its comfortable lounge area. The kitchen, measuring approximately 25 square metres, is also very spacious and features a cosy design with custom-made cabinets. Here you’ll find everything you need for cooking and baking on the 90-cm-wide electric stove with an induction cooktop. The Kornspeicher is rounded out by the bathroom, tiled with beautiful antique marble and featuring a shower, toilet, and sink.
The “Lindenhof Bergenhausen”
We warmly welcome you to the Lindenhof Bergenhausen in the beautiful Westerwald.
In the village of Bergenhausen, which has only 12 houses, we offer six spacious, non-smoking holiday apartments on our property—formerly a farm—accommodating various group sizes. You’re also welcome to bring your dog and board your horse on our spacious pastures or in our open stable. Bergenhausen is a district of the county seat Altenkirchen, which offers all the shopping and services of a medium-sized town. You can easily reach these in just a few minutes by car. Despite its close proximity to Altenkirchen, Bergenhausen has a very rural character, surrounded by forests, meadows, and the Wied River. This means you can set out directly from the house for a beautiful hike, a bike ride, or a horseback ride and enjoy nature. Incidentally, Bergenhausen itself has only one access road, which ends at the edge of town. So there is no through traffic. As mentioned, we offer 6 holiday apartments of varying sizes, each designed for different occupancy levels: The “Kornspeicher,” the “Wäller Stube,” the “Bauernkate,” the “Spatzennest,” the “Sattelkammer,” and the “Heuboden.”
