Pros: Excellent location.We had to leave our Brooklyn apartment temporarily during construction, so we’ve stayed at several Vrbos recently, and this was by far the worst. The property seemed completely unprepared to function as a short-term rental.There were no dressers or anywhere to put clothes. There was a closet, but no hangers — we had to buy our own. There were also no window screens, which we purchased ourselves and left behind.The kitchen was poorly stocked: minimal utensils to eat with, but an excessive number of cooking utensils. Though when we started preparing food we realized that the oven and stovetop didn’t work. There weren’t even ice trays in the freezer.On the third day, the owner contacted us saying the bank needed to do an inspection and asked me either to be there at 10:30 a.m. to let them in or allow access while we were out. I rearranged my plans to stay, but by 11 no one had arrived. I followed up and was told they’d “look into it.” By noon, I finally left without anyone showing up.Many outlets had been painted over, making it difficult to find ones that worked. The building’s front door did not reliably lock, and the toilet did not reliably flush.The worst part, though, was the smell. The bedroom smelled strongly of cigarettes, and the entire apartment smelled strongly of mildew. The large carpet covering most of the living room felt damp to the touch, and we ended up wearing shoes inside the entire stay.
