Family holiday at the Gerken Farm on the North Sea, on the outskirts of the North Sea resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel
The “Gerken Farm,” which is actively engaged in crop farming, is situated in a prime location on the outskirts of the North Sea resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel. Carolinensiel-Harlesiel is situated directly within the “Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park,” a “UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site” since 2009.
Our holiday farm is a real working farm and offers you the ideal setting for a wonderful family holiday on the North Sea.
The three holiday apartments at “Ferienhof Gerken” are approximately 70 square metres in size and are therefore well-suited for two to five people or two to four people, each with an additional toddler.
All three holiday apartments are bright, welcoming, and cosy, and are very well equipped with everything you might need on holiday; for example, all three ground-floor apartments feature sun terraces. All apartments also feature modern, fully equipped kitchens with dishwashers.
There’s naturally plenty going on at Ferienhof Gerken—as is usually the case when you suddenly find yourself living on a farm! Best of all, the kids can ride the Icelandic ponies three times a week for free! There are also plenty of other great activities for the kids: feeding the ducklings and chickens or hunting for eggs are just as much a part of the fun as the many opportunities to run around and play on the large farm grounds: trampoline, swing set, a wide selection of toy vehicles, petting animals, sandpit—there are plenty of holiday adventures to be had!
So the kids will be kept busy, and you, dear parents, can enjoy a relaxing holiday at our farm, for example, in the garden with a cosy cup of tea or while barbecuing on the terraces.
Our farm specialises in crop farming, so our machinery shed is home to a wide variety of farm equipment, including tractors, a combine harvester, and a mini-excavator. During harvest season, many guests—both young and old—get to take a ride on the farm machinery—a real highlight!
It’s just over 1 kilometre on foot to numerous shopping and dining options around the former sluice and trading port in Carolinensiel, which has now become our idyllic historic museum harbour. The restaurants will treat you to fine East Frisian seafood cuisine, and you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in the cafés.
In the evening, you can sit by the harbour with a delicious glass of wine. Well… that is, if you can tear yourself away from our house, the holiday apartments, the terraces, and the garden, where you’ll sit late into the night on balmy summer evenings and truly unwind.
At the idyllic harbour of Carolinensiel, you’ll enjoy the sight of the flat-bottomed boats or the paddle steamer “Concordia II,” a replica of the old “Concordia I” from 1854. This paddle steamer takes you on the “Tief” (What is a “Tief”? Want to know more? The North Sea resort of Carolinensiel-Harlesiel offers a wide range of holiday activities for children and adults. The “Cliner Quelle” spa centre features swimming, saltwater baths, and wellness facilities. The Carolinchen Club, located in the spa center’s children’s playhouse, provides fun and games.
Or take a stroll along the Harle Promenade down to the sea for a swim or to soak up the sun.
At low tide, you can enjoy the heated seawater outdoor pool right on the beach. Or go on a mudflat hike with certified mudflat guides—it’s an exciting and relaxing experience for the whole family.
Of course, the beautiful town of Carolinensiel has everything you need for daily life: supermarkets, bakeries, fish markets, a hair salon, a pharmacy, doctors, banks, and many shops offering a wide selection of maritime trinkets or beachwear and accessories.
