The apartment, with its historic ambiance, is located on the ground floor of the Orangella house. As was customary in days gone by, you enter via a grand outdoor staircase leading to the apartment’s entrance. Small orange trees lend a southern flair. An elegant, painted living room with a historic fireplace welcomes you and invites you to enjoy breakfast and a relaxing stay during your holiday. The apartment features two romantic south-facing bedrooms with a direct view of the Elbe River, accommodating up to 4 people—enjoying a romantic view of the garden and the vaulted sandstone ceiling. The room under the archway can be converted into a cosy living area with seating for two people by the owner. Here, you can relax by the fireplace in any season. Enjoy a holiday in this historic building, restored with organic materials, where even the rooms are painted and decorated in the Biedermeier style. Following the 2013 flood, which submerged our floor to a depth of 1.60 m, the apartment was beautifully restored using sustainable, healthy lime wash and local sandstone. The apartment has been treated to reduce electromagnetic pollution. Come stay in our country cottage and enjoy the peace, nature, and museum-like atmosphere. The apartment features a sky-blue bathroom in a rustic style with windows overlooking the garden, and a small, practical kitchen with genuine oak furniture. Summer Delights: Especially during the sunny spring, summer, and fall months, you can set off right from our doorstep on your inline skates and enjoy a wonderful workout along the Elbe River. By bike, you can take the Elbe Cycle Path—which runs right past the house—to easily reach Dresden or the neighbouring Czech Republic. In addition, the National Park Authority and the regional tourism office offer themed hikes through Wehlen and the rocky landscape of Saxon Switzerland. Climbing on the Saxon sandstone routes and rock faces is particularly impressive and is also available as guided tours organised by local providers. The well-known and well-marked Malerweg trail leads past Wehlen. Painters from centuries past sat here with us on the Elbe Meadow and captured (e.g., Carl August Richter) the panoramic views of the town of Wehlen and the Bastion. Today, the spot is popularly known as the Malerwinkel. Follow in the footsteps of the great artists or try your hand at painting on our Elbe Meadow. Fifty years ago, there was a small beach on our Elbe Meadow. Anyone who isn’t afraid of the river flooding can go for a swim in the Elbe again (not recommended for children due to the strong current), even today. On rainy days, explore the historic cities of Dresden and Pirna. We’d be happy to purchase tickets for you to Dresden’s renowned museums. The Green Vault alone—recently redesigned—is worth the trip to Dresden.

Autumn Leaves: Nature turns red and brown. Every day, there’s a different atmosphere on the Elbe. The sea mist rises like fog. Enjoy this idyll. In the evening, relax after your active walks—for example, to Wilke and the Steinbrecherweg quarries not far from our house—and watch the bats take flight before they retreat to their winter quarters. Our house has been designated a “bat-friendly home” in the countryside. The Daubenton’s bat lives with us. Porcini mushrooms and chestnuts grow in the woods. Go on another adventure in nature. We can advise you on the edibility of your finds. We’d be happy to help you plan your barbecue and will do all the shopping for you. Winter Glitter: The fireplace glows in the evening when you return from a great cross-country or downhill skiing trip in the nearby, snow-covered Erzgebirge (Altenberg, Geising, Zinnwald). Sit back, relax with a good book, and wind down the day. Of course, we love exploring the winter sports areas in our region. Come visit us at the Tuscan spa in Bad Schandau with its special swimming offerings. Winter in Saxon Switzerland is anything but boring. Saxon Switzerland reveals a new, breathtaking beauty. The trees are bare, offering unexpected views of rocky massifs, dreamscapes, and unobstructed vistas into the distance. Mysterious rock formations pile up and spark the imagination. Especially in winter, the unknown and wildly romantic beauty of the Saxon rock landscape leaves a lasting impression. On New Year’s Eve, the town of Wehlen offers a fantastic fireworks display. The fireworks can be best admired from our terrace.
