About the host
Hosted by Deirdre Coulliette-Robledo

Being a fourth generation Floridian the mountains have always been a source of wonderment for me. I have many fond memories of summer vacations with my family camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachians. The cool crisp air, winding mountain roads, rushing crystal clear streams, and lush flora were a refreshing contrast to the Florida heat.
When my work brought me to Atlanta two decades ago I was delighted to discover the mountains a short two hours away. Unlike the Carolinas, the Georgia mountains are still relatively undiscovered by tourists. My retirement goal is to trade the hustle and bustle of Atlanta for the quiet unspoiled beauty of the north Georgia mountains. This mountain cabin represents a promise to myself that someday that dream will come true.

Why they chose this property
The Chattahoochee National Forest is where the Appalachian mountain range begins and is the one true mountainous area in North Georgia. Its edges are dotted by quaint mountain towns like Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Dahlonega, and Helen, but the only civilization inside the forest is the community of Suches. With ten wilderness areas and six wildlife management areas most of the forest is unspoiled and is as wild as when the Cherokee Indians roamed. For a nature lover the natural beauty and abundant wildlife that encompass Suches are about as close to heaven as you can get on this earth.
What makes this property unique
The Riverlands Lodge sits 50 feet from the Toccoa River which is one of the premier trout streams of Georgia. This stretch of the Toccoa is privately owned and heavily stocked offering excellent fly fishing opportunities. The cabin is nestled in a small river valley surrounded by mountains offering a 360 degree panoramic view. Herds of deer regularly graze in the open fields while wild ducks, herons, and beavers can been found along the river bank.
Growing up I wanted to be a Forest Ranger so I have added all the amenities to the property that make it feel like you have your own private park. There is a picnic pavilion on the riverfront with an in-ground charcoal grill, and a rustic fire ring surrounded by benches to roast your hotdogs and marshmallows. Horse shoes can be played while the picnic is being prepared.
While I enjoy the outdoors I also like to be comfortable so the cabin is setup with all the amenities needed to enjoy your time inside as well. The cabin was built to be a family home so it has a spaciousness needed to accommodate a variety of people. The four bedrooms are separated to afford privacy to each bedroom making it ideal for family reunions.
I thoroughly enjoy the simple beauty of Suches, and this cabin puts you in the middle of the very best of it. I am proud to offer my guests the chance to share this experience and hope they find Suches as heavenly as I do.
