About the host
Hosted by Suzie
Originally from suburb of Chicago. Sox not cubs! I moved to Austin after college, in Iowa city. Austin in 1994 was a small, cool, totally fun, yet extremely hot place to live. It was a town with high rents, but low cost to buy. Very unique that allowed me to buy my first house at 21. I’ve combined my career as a union carpenter with my love of designing cozy homes that make me happy. I love sharing my place to help pay the rising costs of this now popular tourist city. I’ve just switched to VRBO, after the fees on Airbnb became too much for guests. This is my home, not a hotel. I don’t believe in pet fees, registering license plates, afternoon check in times and morning checkouts. I believe in accommodation and have pride in my home. I truly appreciate those who take care of it, and enjoy their stay.
Why they chose this property
I’ve lived South of the river, next north of the river, and finally east of downtown, in my attempt to hold onto the “ old Austin feel”. I’ve only had 1 guest out of 102 previously on Airbnb that was scared of the east side. People who travel frequently know location to any downtown area brings exposure to homelessness. I think my neighborhood is magical. I’ve traveled the world and experienced many places. I enjoy walking my dog late/early morning and have run into a heard of loose horses, two escaped tiny ponies, a newborn black angus calf, undetected and left outside the barn. All needing rescue on my walk. There are cowboys who ride their horses, some who dance ( the horse, not the cowboy). Town lake, not “ladybird” as new Austin calls it, is at the end of my street. I can remember my last ride on my moped over the historic Montopolis bridge, before it was closed forever to automobiles. Now it serves to connect pedestrian’s safely to the city.
What makes this property unique
It’s close to airport and downtown, but it feels private. It’s small, but feels bigger than it looks. I care about others and try to accommodate guests, so they enjoy their stay.
