The Steinhuder Meer is also known for its so-called “Auswanderer”—sailboats over 100 years old that are found only here. Swimming and swimming in the lake are permitted and are especially enjoyable in the healthy moor water. The centrepiece is the artificial, 35,000-square-meter swimming island located in the south near Steinhude, featuring a sandy beach and sunbathing lawns.
