Why they chose this property
When we set out to build Wildwood Cabins, we deliberately bypassed traditional subdivisions and resort strips. We were drawn to this specific corner of southwest Missouri because we wanted complete privacy without feeling cut off from the water. Resting on four acres of private, heavily wooded ground that borders hundreds of acres of US Army Corps of Engineers timberland, this land offered something truly rare: a setting where the modern world completely drops away, yet Pomme de Terre Lake remains just beyond your doorstep.
What we love most about this place is the sheer stillness and the rhythm of nature that takes over the moment you arrive. The terrain here is rugged, rocky, and set on a steep incline, offering elevated views that make you feel nestled high in the woods. There are no streetlights or suburban noise—just the rustle of leaves, the call of wildlife, and the cool shade of mature hardwoods. You can take an unpaved, rustic trek through the quiet woods, or drive less than two miles down the road to launch a kayak at the nearest boat ramp.
After a day on the water, returning to these four acres feels like coming back to a private sanctuary. It’s the contrast of wild, untamed nature paired with deep comfort. We love spending late afternoons under the trees, letting the hours slip past, or slipping into the hot tub as the twilight settles over the canopy. By night, with the nearest neighbor a quarter-mile away, the dark sky opens up for stargazing around the firepit while the wind in the trees provides the only soundtrack. We chose this land because it isn't just a plot of ground—it’s an invitation to slow down, breathe deep, and truly rest.
