The Accommodation
We offer you a modern, architect-designed holiday home. Our holiday home provides spacious accommodation for two to six people. The atmosphere is spacious yet warm. The view from the living room is breathtaking. The Dijkhuis: for people who choose peace, space, and relaxed togetherness.
For people who long for peace and relaxation and want to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, everyday life, or the noise of parties, Schenkenschanz is the perfect place.
Deep in the heart of the region lies Schenkenschanz, a former Dutch fortress from the late sixteenth century. With only about a hundred residents, it is a unique, old-fashioned village. The Dijkhuis is a holiday home with a breathtaking view of the old Rhine floodplains. In the distance, you can see the high moraines between Nijmegen and Kleve, and the forests on both sides of the border.
The Dijkhuis has two levels: the lower level overlooks the village, while the upper level looks out over the river. The house features a large open living area from which you can admire the landscape. We’re not exaggerating when we say that you’re actually looking at a giant painting by one of the old Dutch masters.
In short: On the upper level, you’ll find a spacious bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a double bed. The living room features a cosy sitting area and is fully equipped with a TV and DVD player. It opens onto a large, covered terrace and a spacious porch. The living area includes a dining table (seating six), an open kitchen, and a balcony on the north side.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor. One of the rooms has sturdy, comfortable bunk beds (2 x 80 x 200 cm). The other bedroom has two single beds (90 x 200 cm). The spacious entryway leads to the sauna, the bathroom, the utility room, and, via a staircase, to the living area.
Of course, there is a bathroom with a walk-in shower and a bathtub. The lower and upper levels of the house are accessible via a ramp with no steps. This is definitely a plus for people with mobility impairments. The house is not suitable for people who are completely dependant on a wheelchair.
Everything is provided: bed linens, tea towels, bath towels, all necessary amenities, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and a sauna.
Electricity costs are billed separately if the average daily consumption (10 kWh per day) is exceeded.
A maximum of 6 people can stay in the house. Subletting is not permitted.
Please note: This is not a place for late-night parties! After 10:00 p.m., you must keep the noise down outside so as not to disturb the neighbors or their sleep!
