About this property

River House: A Private 5 Bedroom Waterfront Wooded Estate Overlooking Mt. Vernon

The Ultimate Riverfront Sanctuary Set and setting are everything.

After a scenic drive down a secluded, one-mile wooded road, you’ll arrive at a secluded riverfront estate directly across from George Washington’s historic Mt. Vernon. While located just 40 minutes from the bustle of Downtown DC and Old Town Alexandria, the River House feels worlds apart—a true sanctuary where the only neighbors you’ll hear are the local wildlife.

The Space
This five-bedroom estate is designed for those who appreciate unobstructed views and effortless luxury. Whether you're hosting a family dinner in the formal dining area or sinking into the oversized tufted couch in the living room, the Potomac River remains your constant backdrop.

Five Plush Bedrooms: Well-appointed with premium linens for a restorative night’s sleep.

Wellness & Play: Stay active with provided light workout equipment, or lean into total relaxation.

The "River House" View: Watch maritime traffic drift past the Virginia shoreline from nearly every room in the house.

Outdoor Living
The grounds are designed to immerse you in the natural beauty of the Potomac:
Morning Melodies: Wake up to Bald Eagles perched in the towering pines. There is a fire pit and 200 acres of surrounding woodlands to explore.

Sunset Dining: Fire up the outdoor BBQ for a waterfront meal as the sky turns gold.
Evening Rituals: Gather around the outdoor fire pit or opt for a session in our private barrel sauna (available upon request) for the ultimate detox.

Why we love it:
There are few places on the East Coast where you can enjoy this level of privacy and historical significance while being less than an hour from the nation's capital.

We can arrange to have the house cleaned daily and to have a six person barrel sauna brought in for enjoyment.

We also have a 24' center console de-commissioned US Navy center console that can be chartered for river adventures and monument tours. These extras can be discussed on a case by case basis.

About the host

Host profile image
I currently live in the area - originally from Connecticut and travel frequently for work in the humanitarian and national security arenas. We have done a lot in hospitality and love bringing people together in one of a kind spaces which this house most certainly is. There are few properties so close to DC that transport you to a setting more indicative of Maine.

Why they chose this property

We were looking for a home to host small gatherings for a little national security non-for-profit we run and when we landed on this house - there was no question it was the place for us. Being able to wake up to bald eagles in the pine trees outside of the window with views of the historic Mount Vernon and the uncompromising privacy of the area was simply unique. The close proximity to parks and trails and water front nature was also what set this place apart.

What makes this property unique

There are not many houses on the river surrounded by 100 acres of woods at the end of a mile long dirt road with direct views to the famous Mount Vernon estate. The finishes and layout of the house, the ability to accommodate so many so comfortably and the yard are what set this place apart.
