A warm welcome to our holiday home, "Wendland-Hideaway."
Find relaxation, plenty of nature, and fresh air at the Wendland-Hideaway on the outskirts of Gartow on Lake Gartow. You can really feel the connection to nature here. Set in a wooded area, the holiday home is located in a quiet spot surrounded by beautiful trees. It is built in the traditional Danish wooden style and features 3 bedrooms, a large living room with a fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, and space for up to 4–6 people. The large terrace faces west, offering a perfect spot to enjoy sunsets and lovely barbecue evenings.

In the living room, in addition to a TV, DVD player, CD player, and radio, as well as a wood-burning stove, a seating area with an armchair, and a breakfast table that extends to seat up to six people. Free Wi-Fi is, of course, available. The attic area is equipped with 4 Velux windows—1 of which is remote-controlled—to provide light and fresh air.
All rooms feature new infrared heating for cooler days and can be darkened using light-blocking pleated blinds. Books, CDs, and reading material about the surrounding area are available to our guests.
Outside, you’ll find parking right on the property, so it’s just a short walk to the house and the garden area. At the back of the house is a large patio with patio furniture, lounge chairs, and a gas grill. A garden shed is available so you can securely store your own bicycles. Dogs are also welcome; please check with the holiday rental agency if your dog weighs more than 10 kg and/or if you have multiple dogs. Thank you very much.
Gartower Lake is within walking distance, and the nearest swimming spot—which is also suitable for your pet—is not far away. The lake is ideal for many water sports, as well as for biking, jogging, and walking along the loop trail. A lap around the lake is approximately 6.5 km. For bird and animal enthusiasts, there are lookout points and observation towers.
Food courts, playgrounds, a skate park, sailboat, canoe, and pedal boat rentals can be found at the other end of the lake, right in the town of Gartow. For our guests at the “Hideaway,” there are also two smaller, hidden swimming lakes (one of which, with very clear water, is well-suited for little “water lovers”), about 4 km from the holiday home. Information about them is available in the holiday home—as our insider tip, so to speak.
Gartow itself is a town characterised by rural tranquility and the warm hospitality of the Wendland region. You’ll find beautiful half-timbered houses, the impressive “Bernstorff Castle,” and St. George’s Church. In addition, everything you need for daily life is available, and there’s even an organic supermarket. The “Wendland Therme,” located about 500 metres away, is particularly worth mentioning. Here, even on cooler days, you can swim, enjoy the sauna, and relax in the thermal baths. A fitness centre and many other family-friendly sports activities round out the offerings.
There are special opportunities for animal and bird enthusiasts almost every season. In the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve, many bird species—such as the lapwing—are native to the area or pass through; you’ll find several bird-watching stations here. The network of bike paths is very well developed, and traffic on the roads is fairly light. The “Hideaway” is the ideal starting point for all local excursions.
The small towns of Schnackenburg, Lüchow, Dannenberg, Hitzacker, and Lüneburg are perfect for a day trip. Travelling along or across the Elbe River, you can reach the towns of Lenzen, Dömitz, Wittenberge, and Salzwedel. All are worth a visit and give this beautiful natural landscape its own unique character. We provide information about these destinations in the holiday rental.
