About this property

Private AT Historic Mountain Home... Where Serenity awaits... Right off the AT!

Welcome to my Glenwood Mountain home ( Vernon ) located in beautiful Sussex County, in the northwest corner of New Jersey.
Home sits on 1.6 tranquil acres, National Park land behind and adjacent to the Appalachian Trail. Escape and step back into time. Originally built in the 1800's this home boasts country character and old world charm. My love of antiquing and unique collections has fully furnised this home.
Recently renovated & keeping with it's rustic appeal. Wide plank floors and beams in the living room and bedrooms, spacious bathroom with a deep antique claw foot tub, perfect for a nice hot bubble bath. Surrounded by nature, relaxation inside and out. Sussex County is well-known as a four-season recreational community. With our mountains and more than 80 lakes and streams, thousands of visitors are attracted here each year to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, apple/ pumpkin picking, skiing in 2 major areas, 7 award winning golf courses all within a 5 mile radius, one of the worlds largest water parks, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, NJ State Fair and Orange Co. (NYS) , festivals, antiquing in the beautiful historic town of Warwick, upscale restaurants with renowned chefs, to casual dining, cafe's and so much more. There is even a Drive-in theater in Warwick NY... all within minutes away.
For those truly looking to relax & unwind. Escape the commotion, hassle and bustle of your daily living. Enjoy natures surroundings listening to the birds, watching the deer and turkey cross, or squirrels on a chase. Travel the Appalachian Trail & bordering trails that open up to beautiful spring fed lakes only minutes from the house. Pack a lunch, grab a pole, throw out a line and enjoying some fishing. Take some quiet time to read a book, relax in the hammock, draw/ paint, perfect photo opportunities await or perhaps a possible song to compose while sitting around the fire pit. According to some of the old timers and as legend has it, locals gathered around sippin moonshine in the old still located on the property. Remains of a rock foundation stand in the back yard of what once housed a cow which provided fresh milk for the family then later to become a still to provide some entertainment and extra income. Many of songs and poems were written about these hills....
This home offers both rustic and modern amenities, is clean, comfortable and in a great central location.
Come visit, get away, relax and enjoy life in the country, beautiful Sussex County with people and nature together.

Perfect Fall Stay

My mother and daughter and I stayed here for a weekend in late October, and it was just beautiful. The setting is private and peaceful, and the home is darling. Lisa was the perfect host and was so communicative and helpful. We would absolutely stay again!

Perfect Relaxing Getaway

We had a wonderful stay with our dog, Rosie. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. It was close to several State Parks and Forests, not to mention the Appalachian Trail for hiking. Lisa was very communicative, and we really appreciated her telling us about an evening Car Show at a nearby farm that was a dog-friendly event. We had a great time at the Car Show and a very relaxing getaway. Thank you!!

Great stay at lovely home

We had an outstanding stay at this house. It’s located near many hiking trails and we were able to take full advantage of that. The house was clean, well appointed and comfortable. We enjoyed spending the mornings in the patio area. Although we were only there a few days there are many things to do in the area and the host has a book/folder with dozens of local brochures to help keep you find your preferred activities. Overall, just a great stay.

Great autumn stay

This is a lovely spot, one that has a wonderful atmosphere, cozy, and in a wooded area among farmland, the Appalachian Trail, and local sites (taverns, outdoor festivals, breweries/wineries). Dog-friendly, too, which is a huge plus. Looking forward to another visit.

Just Charming!

A very cute house, perfect for a weekend retreat and some skiing and snowshoeing. Beautiful with all the snow this year, and the owner is a delight to deal with. Hope to visit again for some hiking!

Clean, quaint, isolated house

If you’re looking for a clean, quaint house surrounded by trees, this would be a good pick. I imagine it’s especially cozy in the winter. Fire pit is a nice attraction for cool nights.

A wonderful place for some quality father and son time.

The property was wonderful and fit our needs perfectly. Everything was clean and well-maintained, the area was peaceful and whatever we needed to get to wasn't too hard to find. The owner Lisa was a great host. She was quick to answer my questions and helped me to make the most of our stay. Thanks, Lisa! 👍

Perfect location for Peace and tranquility

What a wonderful time we had in this quiet country home. Far from the world and 15 minutes from everything we wanted to do. Appalachian Trail, fishing, fine dining, winery, antique stores, and so much more. The home was clean and neat with a rustic cabin feel. The outdoor fire pit is were we spent a lot of time, having coffee in The morning, and a glass of wine in the evening. The host was amazing and always available for us. She made great suggestions for dinning and travel, and was always a phone call away. What a fantastic time, and we will be back again soon. Thank you Lisa!

Perfect little spot for a Spartan race weekend

Host was incredibly great with communication shortly after booking the listing letting me know everything about the property which I really appreciate. It was exactly what I needed for the amount of people I had coming, I had a last minute friend need to stay the one night and after letting them know they told me it would be a $50 fee which was perfect. Again communication was incredible. The place was cute, rustic, very well decorated for a quiet getaway in the mountains. I will be communicating with them in the future.

Nice relaxing

Had a nice relaxing time at this place on Christmas with my family and friends. Owner Lisa received us when we arrived and has taken us in and around the house. Gave us some safety instructions, handed us papers of various nearby places to visit. Overall we had a great time at this home. Thanks Lisa.

Peaceful, great location & well stocked

We couldn’t of asked for anything more-a lovely, peaceful setting, any amenities you could think of-including a little kids bath toys, spices, flash lights, bug spray, games, washer & dryer etc. Communication with the owner was easy and she was very informative. House was spotless & the grounds beautiful. You can get away from it all while still having tons to do with a short drive. One note-steps to the bedrooms are steep & open & bathroom is in the first floor. We will definitely return to this property!

Loved it!

We stayed in this house for a weekend (me, my wife, our two toddlers and two our friends). And we all really enjoyed it! The location is great, peaceful and quiet. The house is adorable and has its own unique atmosphere. We felt in love with it from the first minutes we got in. And it has everything you need! We grilled marshmallows at the fire pit, listened for birds singing and watched constellations in the night. This place is a hidden gem! We would love to stay there again and at least for a week or two! And thank you, Lisa, for being so friendly and helpful!

Great house and we were able to extend the checkout time until late afternoon

We rented Lisa's house for a long weekend because of its close proximity to Mountain Creek. We were participating in a bike race at the resort that didn't end until after 4 p.m. Lisa graciously let us extend our stay until after the race was over (at no cost to us) so we wouldn't have to worry about keeping perishables from the fridge cold while the race was going on. Being able to extend our checkout time made the day stress-free and let us just focus on the race. It was also great to be able to use the fire pit behind the house in the evenings. We definitely will look into renting this house again the next time we're back in the area. Lisa also met us at the house when we arrived Thursday evening to show us around and answer any questions we had about the place. It was great not having to blindly walk into a rental house.

Cute Cabin

Beautiful area however the house felt more like a cabin. At most it sleeps 3 adults comfortably. To improve the experience we'd recommend clean drinking water (perhaps a filter, or bring your own bottles), newer appliances (for example the coffee maker felt like $10 model 10 years ago at Wal-mart), light-blocking curtains, and at least one full size mirror somewhere in the home. Caution is also needed since the stairs are narrow and steep and portions of the ceiling are low (the windows are low too, as are the curtains...I guess short people built this house). We were put off though by the extra fees added afterwards that were not advertised and the nervous questioning and reminders from the owner. It was difficult to relax and enjoy our time there. If we could re-do our vacation we'd stay somewhere else.

Loved this getaway adventure!

This home was beautiful. My husband and two toddler girls stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. The house has exposed wood ceilings, antique furniture and very cool details, including games, books, and very interesting knickknacks. My girls loved going to all the shelves and looking at the pieces from a different era. The owner, Lisa goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Sheets and towels are provided, and the house, even though its in the woods among the elements, is immaculate! Lisa takes the time to familiarize guests with the house and the area. She provided a map and folder with restaurants and activities. She even provided baby gates because she knew the young ages of my children. The fire pit area was very cool, using the foundation of an old barn. We hiked in the woods on the property... my girls loved collecting "nature things" and talking about them. We relaxed in the hammock and had breakfast outside. We visited local restaurants and antique shops, strolled in Warwick and Space Farm! All in all a great get away.

Relaxing retreat

Lisa home is a great restored farmhouse. She has done an excellent job making it look old but with modern amenities. The house was very clean and she had thought of everything you would need. The location was great for us to visit family in NJ yet only minutes to NY state to do genealogy research. Having previously lived in Sussex County, it is a beautiful place to live with lots of things to do in the tri-state area of NY/NJ/PA. The two bedrooms are upstairs and the steps are fairly steep but there is a sofa bed downstairs. The tub is a high claw foot tub with a shower. We are 67/69 and had no issues with either. We did not use the fire pit area but I love the design of it. Just too hot for a fire. We did though take advantage of the chairs and hammock. After running around all day, it was nice to relax in the hammocks with a glass of wine. Very quiet and serene. Lisa met us for the meet and greet to go over everything. She is very friendly and wants your stay to be as comfortable as your own home. She has succeeded! Would stay here again.
