There are 42 individual cottages situated on quiet, meticulously landscaped grounds. A quintessential island cottage, Dolphin Cottage at Kaanapali offers a one-of-a-kind, artistic, and all natural environment that takes one back to old time Maui plantation style living. The custom-designed, two bedroom, two bathroom cottage has ocean views and more than 1,850 square feet of living space. Its steeply pitched roofline allows for lofty exposed-beam ceilings, while its plank siding and wooden louvered windows complete the charming cottage setting. Subtle details include antique wrought iron and brass light fixtures, built-in leather furniture, eight ceiling fans, seven sky lights, full-sized washer & dryer, two-person spa tub, and even a forty-square-foot shower room!

In décor furnishings and amenities are featured against a cheerful, relaxed, island-style backdrop. Over the Lanai entrance a world-class surfboard by a renowned Maui shaper welcomes guests. The pop of colorful art by local artists brightens the walls, natural fiber jute rugs are scattered about on concrete floors, and furnishings combine comfort with craftsmanship. In the Kitchen, koa wood 'Dolphins at Play' by a famous local sculptor hangs from the exposed-beam vaulted ceiling.

A King-sized bed is in the Master. Queen sized carved wooden bed is in the Second Bedroom, a queen-sized sleeper sofa is in the Living Area. Dolphin Cottage comfortably accommodates up to six guests. A 42' HDTV with DVD player and video library, as well as a central sound system bring modern comfort to your stay in paradise.

Surrounded by tropical foliage, with trade winds flowing through wooden-jalousie windows, by day Dolphin Cottage is filled with natural sunlight.

Please be advised that there are some drawbacks to this lush, natural, tropical environment. We're in the tropics where friendly lizards and insects thrive, and this is an open-air plantation cottage. Somehow, lizards and insects seem to find their way inside even though the cottage is fully screened and pest-control measures for unsavory critters are in place. It's all part of the Hawai`i experience!

Big; unique; no air conditioning - my fault for not reading description thoroughly

Pros and cons to this stay. Pros are it's big, the location is great; I did like the shower a lot! Cons are there is no AC. Yes, I realize many places on Maui do not have AC. The descritions reads "open air" and it just didn't register with me at the time of booking. So if you are a person that is remotely hot natured, don't book this in May. Maybe January is a better month. We spent the first night to see if we could handle it and decided to move to a closeby resort the next morning. No, I didn't contact the manager about this as I know it was my fault. The freezer needs some attention. The freezer door doesn't slide easily out to get ice. There is some organization in the kitchen that needs addressing. Should the manager wish to contact me privately, I'll share the points of interest. I wish this place well, it just wasn't for us.

COCKROACHES everywhere!

From the moment we arrived, we observed cockroaches (dead and alive). Over the next 48 hours, we killed at least two dozen cockroaches! They were seen crawling on the floor, in the shower, on the walls over the headboards, in our toiletry bag and one swimming in my cup of coffee. How it managed to find its way there I still don’t know. I’m on the border of dry heaving as I think about how I almost drank it. Our kids were terrified to walk around as cockroaches would scurry across the floor. The issue was brought up to the property manager, Emmett, who quickly dispatched someone to spray bug spray. This exacerbated the issue, as now we found more and more bugs coming out of the woodwork and slowly succumbing to death out on the open floor resulting in us cleaning up half dead cockroach carcasses. As we continued to look around for bugs, we discovered how truly disgustingly unkept this location is. Behind every dresser was a layer of dirt and dead bugs, the fans were covered with at least a few years worth of dust and the ceiling beams had what we believe was lizard feces dripping off the edges. I have pictures to prove all this. Had we looked into Lowest guest rating, we would have found this is an ongoing issue over the past 10 yrs! Owner tried to discredit a reviewer, saying the bugs were only house flys. We were willing to eat the cost of relocating but were unsuccessful in finding availability on short notice. This a “no refund” location.I would not recommend this cottage!

Landscape pristine and close to pool

The kids loved being so close to the pool, and we all enjoyed the beauty inside and outside the cottage. There was plenty of space, and amenities for what we were looking for. Mahalo!

Dolphin Cottage in Kaanapali

Great property for 4 adults in 2 separate bedrooms. If you have kids there’s room in LR and lanai. Central kitchen LR DR. Enclosed lanai is spacious. 2 bath w/separate sinks and toilets (note toilet in guest BR is ‘old school’ and temperamental!). Giant shared shower between bathrooms, and master has giant tub. Across from pool and easy walk to beach across highway. Short drive to Whalers Village.Old Lahaina Town is closed of course-terribly sad to see the devastation 😢 shop local to support the locals! Lahaina Strong!
