About this property

Old Town Cottonwood Garden Oasis

Enjoy this private garden oasis walking distance from old town Cottonwood. Our green home features a private full kitchen and bath with a separate entrance. Step out of the french doors into a shady garden patio with a water feature. Fresh organic eggs, honey, and seasonal vegetables. Bring your kids!

The Space
Centrally located in the Verde Valley, our home offers a completely private apartment situated in beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Its a half mile from the center of old town, and only 15 minutes from both Sedona and Jerome making it the perfect location to explore the valley from.

If you love hiking, swimming, horse back riding, ancient pueblos and cliff dwellings, or want to tour the wine country of northern Arizona, our place offers the ideal location.

Guest Access
When you stay with us you will have access to a very private lushly landscaped acre. Its fully fenced making it the perfect place to bring young children.

Your apartment has its own entrance and is situated away from the main house so you can come and go as you please.

Interaction with Guests
We generally like to leave our guests to enjoy their privacy but we love to meet new people and guide new comers to some of the wonders the Verde Valley has to offer.

The Neighborhood
Situated on a private dead end road we are secluded and yet only a half mile from wine tasting rooms, boutiques and many restaurants.

Getting around
Not much public transit here. You will need either a car or a horse, but if you are renting a vehicle its best to get something with a high clearance if you want to full access to the valley.

Great Find

This rental was a great find for its location and price! The cottage is very cute and very comfortable. The best part was the beautiful garden area. The garden is a bird sanctuary and offers a peaceful private living space to enjoy nature. Sedona is only a short drive away and old town Cottonwood is only minutes away.

Overall, It Was A Good Stay

Our overall experience was okay. We’ve booked shared properties before, but I would have liked a little more privacy. Felt like we had to close all window coverings and could still be seen. While we love pups, their dogs would come sit by our back door. Some of the pillows and blankets smelled like wet dog, but it was nothing some air freshener couldn’t fix. Overall, our stay was okay. They seem like lovely people and we enjoyed the layout of the space where we stayed.

Perfect Location

We recently stayed for 3 weeks and it became like home. From our quiet and comfortable "home", we were out every day exploring the area's many historic state parks and National Monuments. We "cooked in" most nights but also enjoyed a number of excellent nearby restaurants in Cottonwood, Jerome, and Page Springs. Thanks to Joshua for providing this peaceful place.

good for a short get away

We enjoyed our stay, however, though I checked with the owner, the area is not completely fenced for a dog. There is a great dog park a couple of miles away! Very cute inside and comfortable. Everything one needs for simple cooking. The shower is great! The outside patio and garden areas need some work and clean up. It is a good location, a unique oasis!

I feel that I was misled about the location. It definitely was not withing walking distance of Old Town Cottonwood. The rental itself was fine, but the surroundings on the outside were unkept, isolated and somewhat scary to us. I did not feel comfortable being outside at all.

Peaceful retreat

We loved our stay with Joshua and Carol (and Becky, their charming greyhound). I spent a lot of mornings sitting in the back garden listening to the birds, and got to watch a hummingbird taking a shower in the rock fountain. The kitchen was well equipped if you are inclined to cook - or grill. Joshua is very knowledgeable about hiking in the area, and suggested Sycamore Canyon - which we loved, but be aware that getting there in a low clearance rental car was a challenge! This is a great place to recharge your batteries, and we found Cottonwood to be pleasantly laid back compared to Sedona, which has gotten more touristy than what I remember from a previous visit. A couple of times we got stuck in traffic jams in Sedona -way too much like Chicago! Try Muse Bistro for a nice meal with an interesting menu. We also enjoyed tasting Arizona wines.

Definitely not a private getaway as we were lead to believe.

After reading deeper into the reviews before our trip, I saw mentioned in the reviews that they have a dog on their property. This was concerning to us so I called the owner to discuss further regarding their dog and our dogs not used to being around other people and other dogs. The owner reassured us and said that it wouldn't be a problem and they would keep a close eye on their dog and not be around on the property as much while we were staying. Checking in was fine on arrival and was shown around on the property by the owner. During this tour, there is an RV parked right across from the casita and the owner stated that there was a family staying in this RV that was directly next to the castia entrance. This is where the misleading and untruthfulness about the entire situation began. I had already told him prior to us arriving that our dogs would not be comfortable around other people and dogs and he failed to tell us that there would be another set of people staying on the property while we were there. He chose to not communicate this prior to our arrive. The entire first night we arrived there were people outside on the property making it impossible for us and our dogs to be outside and enjoy our vacation. These other guests were loud and disruptive as well. We ended up leaving very early the next day, cutting our trip by 2 days as our entire stay was ruined by the lack of communication of other people being on the property while we were there, even when the owner knew my concerns before us arriving. Besides the misleading information the bathroom of the casita had MULTIPLE EARWIG BUGS and SPIDERS. The bedroom had a portable A/C unit that had a hose connected to the window that was duct taped and immediately fell apart after turning it on making it impossible to use during our night while that room was very warm. I am writing this review to hopefully save others from this misleading "private" garden oasis scheme. I have expressed every concern with the owner regarding how misleading and untruthful this situation has been. The owner stated that my "story" regarding the disruptive people being outside who were staying in the RV right next to the castia is "not believable". I have never been more disrespected. The owner did give us a one night refund but refused for the 2nd night we did not stay because my "story" was thought to be a lie. I'm very disappointed in the treatment and dishonesty this owner demonstrated during this situation.
