The view is amazing. The house has so much potential but is very rustic (I guess you would say) With that being said, my family of 14 had a WONDERFUL time. I will stay there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed The property was exactly what we needed for a small wedding ceremony.Lots of room, the property is beautiful, and the views are amazingSpent most of our time in the screened in porch area, was a great place to set up for food and enjoy the pool tables, dartboard, and all the activities.Enjoyed the golf carts and being able to ride to town. There is a general store on the island a little pricey, but can be expected. The kitchen was fully stocked for all of our cooking needs.Beds were comfortable, and showers were hot.Host was very responsive to any issues and any question that we had, very helpful when it came to transportation and other things we may need while staying on the island. This is not the Ritz Carlton, but more like an old cabin in the woods with a beautiful water view.Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the time with our family and friends and memories we made.
This place was perfect set up for our group of eight. Everyone got their own room. The central activities area had pool. Ping-pong, television, and bar.The kitchen is a little small, but there’s not much that you can’t makeHaving our own dock for our boat was awesome. How do you recommend this stay into experience real Island life this is not your typical hotel or resort. This is to experience the island like the locals do.
This property is perfect for large families or groups. The kids really enjoyed the game room. Very good communication from host. I would definitely stay here again.
Perfect way to get away on the Dafuskie! Thoroughly enjoyed the two golf carts that were available for going out to the local restaurants. We were a fun group of friends wanting to spend the weekend enjoying daufuskie and we did just that. Lots of sleeping Arrangements, nice place to hang out and play games! Provided a great getaway! We arrived with our own boats so the dock was greatly appreciated.
This was a great spot with everything we needed for a really nice weekend. The host was very communicative and willing to help out with anything we needed. Would absolutely recommend and will be back.
We loved our stay at Jolly Shores! The online pictures were accurate and the views divine!! Now that we have been once, we will be better prepared for our return stay. We highly recommend this one-of-a-kind property.
Excellent spot if you have a large group. The communal screened-in porch with a commercial ice machine, bar, pool table, etc. is perfect for entertaining. Huge property with a dock and plenty of room for outdoor activities. The owner was extremely helpful and took great care of us!
Jolly Shores was the perfect location for a group of friends to vacation! The second building was set up like a motel with each room having its own individual entrance and bathroom. Most of our time was spent on tbe screened in area with a bar, ping pong table, and pool table! It was perfect!

Rustic delight
Our group of 4 families had the best time at Jolly Shores. If you want neat and sparkly clean this is not the place for you but if you like salty, rustic, full of character and spacious, well appointed outdoor gathering spots and like fishing, hunting mussels, squirrel, crabs, and adventures, this place is great.

Thanks John! We’re glad you enjoyed your stay at Jolly Shores - y’all were great guests as well. We’re hoping that with our new management and cleaning staff, combined with all the off-season renovations we’re doing, we can provide an even better experience while keeping all the charm of the property that makes it cool and unique. Hope to see y’all again sometime!
We always love Jolly Shores. The golf carts, pool table, ping pong table, big TV, ice machine (😍), and TWO refrigerators are really great additions! We love all the private bed and bath options, too. This location offers all the flexibility that we needed- including a dock for our boating friends who joined us! We cooked, laughed, sung, napped, and hung out together and enjoyed the best sunsets on the island!
House was awesome, location was great perfect for my bachelor party. Had 13 guys and we had 5 boats on the dock and made them fit, always a good time on Dafuskie never ran into a stranger and met a lot of cool locals. Golf carts were clutch to enjoy the island, we will most likely be planning a yearly mens trip back out there.
we had a wonderful time with lifelong friends at this somewhat rustic and very laid back destination.
don’t look for a four star resort, look for an escape from the rush of the world. we never even turned the tv on.
we are planning our next stay
A large group of adult friends and cosines enjoyed this time together. This place had enough space to accommodate a large crowd. Most of us had our on bathroom, and the large screened in porch was so much fun for us all! The property is large and riding the golf carts around it made us feel like kids again. The owner is great and was very accommodating! This may be our forever rental on Daufuskie Island!
This place was nice about 30 years ago. The place is beyond disgusting and should be taken off VRBO.

Hi Laura,
As mentioned in our VRBO posting and a number of the reviews, Jolly Shores is a rustic setting. This means that while the property and all sheets/towels/etc. are professionally cleaned at every checkout, we might have some leaves blow in on the outdoor screened in area, some sand that gets caught on the base boards, and other items that our mostly repeat-guests consider trivial. It is clear that you did little to no research on our property or your destination in general, evidenced by your comments to me and also to the golf cart rental company you used - "Oh my god, you have to drive on dirt roads?!". Therefore, when you complain to me about the way that we hang the towels, and send pictures of the closed-off utility closet that needs sweeping (why are you in there to begin with?), don't be surprised when you're not taken seriously. Thanks

Great rustic place for guys trip
This is an awesome venue for a bunch of guys getting together. The fishing was incredible right from the dock. Saw a guy hook up a 31 inch red fish right in front of the house the first morning. The game room is awesome with the pool, card and ping pong tables. Place needs some work here and there, some screens are torn, floating dock has lost some floats, and volleyball net is in tatters. But none of those issues prevented us from having a great time. Thanks Bill for a great time!

Hi Tim, I'm glad you enjoyed Jolly Shores. I apologize for the timing of the dock float repair - it's very difficult to get people over to Daufuskie for specialized work like this. We had two floats installed last week and an additional three more are being put in this week (this should bring the dock back to full strength). The volleyball net was ripped apart by 55+ mph gusts that we had a week or two before your check-in and I've already ordered a new one. The hole in the screen was just brought to my attention a couple days ago and I've asked that our handyman repair that as well. Thanks and we look forward to your next visit!

Dirty
The host was very responsive and helpful leading up to our trip. However, upon arrival I was horrified at the lack of cleanliness of the property. It was absolutely filthy and appeared to have not had a drop of TLC in quite sometime. I will definitely be back Daufuskie but will absolutely never stay at Jolly Shores again. If you’re someone who like camping then maybe this property is a good fit but if you’re someone who doesn’t like bugs and vines growing indoors then I’d say avoid this property at all cost.
Our family was there about 10 years ago and it was very cute, but they have not done a single thing to keep it up since then!!!
It was absolutely disgusting, the most filthy place I have ever stayed!! Rat feces found in corners and other areas. Half of the lights didn’t work and still continued to burn out after they tried to replace them. The golf cart roof fell in on our family and are a danger to even use. Not to mention the dock that is completely falling in, it is unsafe to leave a boat tied up there.
I would strongly suggest not staying if you would like a nice house for you and your family to vacation!!
It was horrible!!!! I cannot stress enough how disgusting this house is!

Hi Kim,
I apologize for the delay in getting back to you, but I felt it was important to have an actual update on some of the issues you noted rather than just a canned response that is all too typical in reviews.
The dock float and ramp were finally replaced last month - this was something that I've attempted to have worked on for several years and because of the remote nature of the island, size of the job, etc. had very little luck. Had you made it known at the time that you didn't feel comfortable docking your boat, I would have directed you to my backup dock 5 minutes down the road. Similarly, had you brought to my attention the issue with the 6 passenger cart, I could have given you a different cart as I do keep backups in case of emergencies like this. You told me about the fluorescent bulbs that were out and I fixed them within several hours so I'm not sure why you didn't feel comfortable mentioning some of your other concerns...?
After reading your review, I took additional time to scrutinize the cleaner and I agree with you 100% - the cleanliness of the house was completely inexcusable. I had hired a different cleaner before the busy season last year and unfortunately placed too much trust in them as I had known them for a very long time and had confidence in their ability. The previous 2-3 groups had given me very positive feedback and as the property is occupied almost non-stop May-August, I do rely on this feedback to keep up with things that can't be monitored in the 3-4 hours between groups.
Thank you very much for your feedback and I'm sorry that your stay didn't meet expectations. Best, Casey

storm damage and he said it was fine
We rented jolly shores for a girls get away. We spoke with the owner several times asking about the conditions after the hurricane. He said everything was fine and we were set to come over. First problem was the dock was not fixed ( no biggie we understand that as we are from savannah and see the slow repairs here) second NO electricity ( that got fixed after several calls at @930-10pm on the night we arrived and was never fully restored) , third glitch mold in the walls of the back house ( bc the roof apparently had been blown off in the storm, his electricians told us that) , no hot water except in 2 rooms (again I believe the electricity) lastly the fridge never worked so we had to keep asking for ice. Being that we were on an island with 16 people he could have done more. A few minor problems marsh grass from storm up to the fire pit and we had to dig our chairs out of the marsh to find them. Golf carts did not run long but that goes back to electricity (some got stranded) Several of us go here every year for get away. It has never looked like this.
He will not return our phone calls. We feel that there should be some money given back since the house was not in the condition we were told. After we called the Monday before to make sure.
Very disappointing.

Response from VrboOwner on 2 April 2020
Hi Kappy,
Thanks for your review. Unfortunately, I have to preface my response to some of your claims by noting that of the 4,000+ guests that I've had at Jolly Shores, your group certainly falls within the 10 worst I've ever hosted. Between breaking into my storage area for extra supplies because you brought more friends than originally requested, the cigarette butts that my cleaning crew picked up in seemingly everywhere except the ashtrays, cutting the end off my $50 extension cord (why?), and just the general drunkenness and lack of respect of many of your group, I would appreciate if you never stay at Jolly Shores again. To address some of your concerns:
1) Most issues seem to stem from the power being cut off - this is completely out of my control and it should be noted that power was completely restored within 2.5 hours. During this time, I did everything within my power to help you, including bringing coolers of ice from a restaurant on the other side of the island.
2) I'm sorry that your friends did not communicate that the dock was not going to be repaired until the following week - I explicitly stated this when confirming earlier in the week. I also explicitly stated that I'd be happy to issue a refund or credit prior to your arrival. Hurricane Matthew was a once-in-a-century event and I replaced a roof, screens, and removed trees from the yard to accommodate your arrival. I'm sorry if I did not explain that the marsh grass crept up to the fire pit closest to the water; however, there are two other fire pits and literally 27 acres where you could have chosen to hang out.
3) I already honored a lower price that was quoted on VRBO despite telling you that the actual rate had not been updated on my calendar. Between this, the reasons mentioned above, and that multiple people at Marshside Mama's heard your group say you were "having a great time", I will not be providing any sort of refund.
Happy travels,
Jolly Shores
