Country Acres Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths plus an additional sleeping area and sleeps up to 12 persons. Also available within a few hundred feet, if needed, is a pavilion with picnic tables, chairs, gas grills, and a campfire circle of large rocks for relaxation, story-telling, or reminiscing. The pavilion can be reserved for family reunions, weddings, church events, etc. Please inquire for pricing.

This cabin features a full hickory kitchen with an eat-in bar area, and includes an electric range, microwave, blender, dishwasher, lots of silverware, plates, glasses, cooking utensils, and much more.

The Great Room features a rustic, native sugar maple hardwood floor which still shows the tap holes made by the 'sugaring' process years ago. The Great Room is furnished with a sofa, love seat, recliner, and a large, 'antique' plank-style table with a bench and chairs seating from ten to twelve people.

A tastefully decorated full bath and a bedroom with a queen size bed is on the main floor. One is struck by the rustically beautiful wooden floors, ceilings and trim.

The loft affords a beautiful view of the one-acre lake, and includes a king-sized bed, and additional sleeping space of two single beds on rollers for those 'extra,' younger guests.

The ground floor includes a bedroom with a king bed , a bathroom with a shower, and a utility room with a washer and a dryer. There is a twin over full bunkbed in the utility room. Rounding out the ground floor is a twin daybed with a twin trundle, a cot, a TV on 210+-channel Xfinity service plus the Pittsburgh local channels, and a DVD player. A pack-n-play also available as needed. Again, there is a beautiful view of the water.

** New in 2020 is stamped concrete and Breeo Fire Pit below the cabin near the lake, perfect for sitting and relaxing while viewing the lake.

Cozy cabin under the stars

My friends and I stayed at this beautiful home for the second year in a row now, and were so pleased. There's bounds of outdoor space between a deck, firepit, and massive backyard, and the interior of the home is beautiful.

Beautiful and cozy

The owners are very friendly and excellent communicators! We came between snow storms and he offered travel advice, plowed the driveway, and checked in to see if we needed local for food suggestions. The cabin is fantastic and perfect for a small group setting. We came to the area for a team competition and it fit our crew perfectly. It provided a cozy atmosphere and was comfortable enough for us to all get a good night’s sleep. Highly recommend!

Beautiful and Quiet

We enjoyed our time here. We would sit on the back deck or walk around the lake. It is very rural and you can hear the horses and cows from nearby properties. The cabin was very clean, easy to find, and great for a family.

Beautiful property. Incredible views.

We absolutely loved staying here. Great accomidations. We wanted a place where we could relax and unwind and this fit the bill perfectly. Great view from deck. The lake was perfect. We would walk around every morning to count how many fish we could see (9 was the highest). I highly recommend this property. I would stay here again.

Perfect Getaway

The 6 of us adults had more than enough places to comfortably sleep. The kitchen had good quality equipment, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were nice. We had so much fun enjoying the pond (1 two person kayak, 1 normal kayak, and 1 pedal boat) and fire pit. They had fire wood for us, perfect trees for setting up hammocks. It was a wonderful stay.

Beautiful Property and Location

This is my second stay and we really appreciated the upgrades to the lower level since our last visit. We had 7 family members during this stay; ages 9 through 72. We enjoyed the pond, star gazing, nightly campfires and plenty of card games around the table. This was the perfect spot for the family to be together. All necessary details were given to us prior to arrival. The host made contact once we arrived. The place was clean and had everything I needed. We had no issues to report and are definitely looking forward to staying again! THANK YOU!!!

Property was as beautiful & serene as was described.

From the moment We arrived to the moment we left, we enjoyed our stay (mom & two young adult children). The owner came to meet us and was very friendly. I was a bit uneasy at first being a woman, black and staying in such a remote area, but wouldn't you know it, her grandson is an adopted black young man. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with all you need to prepare your meals as well as many games to keep busy. We enjoyed swimming in the lake on property as well as just relaxing on the land which was what we needed. We have so many great pictures of what relaxing is all about. Even my kids said they would come back. We highly recommend this place and was also at a great price.

Some Good, Some Surprises

We booked this cabin based on the listing's claim that it was quiet and tranquil. For the most part, it was.....when ATVs weren't tearing around the lake. Our very first night, we sat down for dinner out on the deck and ATVs began to go around the lake repeatedly. It was so loud we couldn't hear our own conversation. Calls to the owner ended with voice mails being left, but I did talk to them the next day and they said their grandkids were riding them and they'd ask them to stop. They did not stop, so the quietness and tranquil surroundings were shattered for 5 out of our 7 nights. We felt somewhat cheated in that sense. The cabin was clean enough, considering the grandkids did the cleaning. I cleaned the refrigerator when we arrived so that no one would think we'd left it the way we found it. The beds were comfortable. It is close enough to Deep Creek Lake for us to go and enjoy some boating without a long drive. The listed amenities are not consistent.....for example, our boys were really enjoying the canoe and looked forward to using it on the weekend, but someone came and took it on Thursday evening and never did return it, so, again, we felt cheated as the promised amenities were part of the reason we rented the cabin. The canoe being taken away was a real bummer for us. The grandkids going swimming in the lake did not bother us, but it would have been nice to know who they were in advance since, while they swam, we were the only adults present. We felt if something bad happened (which is not unreasonable with kids in water) we would certainly be questioned and that caused anxiety. Overall, I think this cabin has the potential to be a great vacation spot. We felt like some of what we paid for - the quietness and use of a canoe, etc., were not what they were advertised to be and we felt cheated to pay for things we were told we'd have, but that were not available. It is a lovely cabin and we saw a total of only 2 mosquitoes the entire time we were there. Taking walks around the lake was quite enjoyable when the ATVs were not running. This was our first vacation in 5 years due to several crisis situations, including cancer, so we longed for a quiet, tranquil spot where we could be rid of anxiety for at least a week. We are leaving it 4 stars because some of what was promised did hold true. I would rather give it 3.5. My son fixed the peddle boat, which was broken when we arrived. We are not sure how long that fix will hold.

If you’re looking for a place to truly disconnect and find peace, this cabin is it. From the moment we arrived, the serene surroundings wrapped us in quiet comfort. The cabin itself was spotless and cozy, with just the right balance of rustic charm and modern convenience.Waking up to the soft sounds of nature and sipping coffee on the deck while watching the lake move brought a level of peace I didn’t know I needed. The lack of noise and light pollution made for incredible stargazing at night – something I’ll cherish for a long time.Whether you're reading by the fireplace, or simply enjoying the stillness, this retreat offers the perfect escape from the busyness of life. I left feeling refreshed, grounded, and already planning my return. If peace is what you’re after, look no further.

About the host

Host profile image
I, Ken, grew up in Accident, MD on this farm. In 1995 I moved to Nashville, TN to take a job as a Road Manager/Sound Engineer for many different artists. This took me to all 50 states and about 15 countries. In Nashville, I met my wife Cheryl who was working for the management company of George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, Dierks Bentley, and others. She also went to school for interior design.
We got married in 2002 and now have 4 children. After the children came along, I decided I no longer wanted to be on the road all the time, so I got a "real job" in the building industry designing homes. In 2014 we decided to move back to Accident, MD.
We both love having guests over and enjoy cooking. Sipping a fresh cup of hot coffee on the front porch while watching the deer and wild turkeys is an enjoyment of ours. Cheryl's parents both moved to the US from Cuba in the 1950's so Cheryl's first language was Spanish. Cheryl grinds her own flour and bakes fresh bread regularly. Her homemade pizzas will rival any pizza shop! One of her passions is to take old furniture or other objects and take her artistic touch to turn them into something new, useful and exciting! She also enjoys oil painting when she gets the opportunity.
While I now spend much of my time working from home designing houses, I also mix sound at a local state university where they bring in various national/international artists.

Why they chose this property

I am one of nine children who grew up on this farm. When I was in middle school my dad and I planted the white pines that now surround the cabin. A few years later we built the pond so that we would have water to irrigate our strawberry fields. Several of us kids moved out of the area when we grew up and my dad and mom decided to build this cabin so that their kids would have a place to stay when we came back home to visit.
The construction of the cabin was a labor of love by my dad, my siblings, in-laws, and some friends. Some of the hemlock boards used for the siding and trim came from trees off the farm. My parents decided to extend their hospitality and make the cabin available to people outside of the immediate family. Many have made this their vacation home year after year!
My father was a school teacher, a pastor, and a farmer. He passed away in 2002 and since then the cabin has been managed by Ida, my mom, along with help from the kids. At age 88 she decided that it was too much for her to manage and that it was time to sell it to one of her kids.
In Feb 2022 Cheryl and I were blessed with the opportunity to purchase it from her and continue the tradition! We feel that it is too nice of a place to just be enjoyed by one family and we want to share it with you and others! We want others to also be able to escape the craziness in the world and to be able to relax and be refreshed by the peace and beauty in nature - at least for a while...

The area is quiet and private, yet close enough to enjoy the local attractions and the mountains of Western Maryland.

What makes this property unique

The cabin is fully furnished, heated, and overlooks our private 1-1/2 acre lake. There is a firepit between the cabin and the pond that is available to use.

Also available within a few hundred feet, if needed, is a pavilion with picnic tables, chairs, gas grill, and a campfire circle of large rocks for relaxation, story-telling, or reminiscing. There is a sand volleyball court near the pavilion.

We also have the Butterfly Suite that sleeps 5-6 and the Board Room that sleeps up to 9 a few hundred yards across the field. This works great for family reunions, weddings etc.

A number of weddings have also been held on the farm in the beautiful setting of the lake area.

Whether you are seeking a peaceful retreat, a romantic getaway, or simply want to experience a natural wonder, you will find what you are looking for at the Country Acres Retreat.
