Excellent Stay in the Wine Country
The house was fabulous--better than described. We find the owners easy and communicative--but they did not overdo it. We grilled steaks on the barbie and sat outside with a wonderful fire at the end of our days. Probably one of the best holidays we have had and it is primarily because the Villa was so nice!

Another awesome stay!!!
This is our second year staying and again absolutely loved it. Yes, it's a ways from the wineries but you have everything you need at the house. A great pizza oven, nice house, beautiful views and an all around great time with great friends. I can't wait to stay here again. Thank you Roy for all of your kindness and genuine interest in making sure everything is perfect for us. Hope to stay again soon. Lori.... 7-26-18 to 7-29-18

A time to remember
5 families gathered from Seattle, Bay Area and Tokyo, Japan for my son's CIA graduation.
30 min to commute the steep winding unfamiliar road to/from Napa Valley to Pope valley was one of challenge however the size of the house was needed for us and found it as perfect place.
Roy the host was nice to provide us all information needed and great in communication via phone, txt and emails. He speaks several languages as well. (He said he even trying Japanese :P)
Pros:
- you'll be in middle of nowhere - this place is totally different from the busy Napa valley.
- Beautiful three bedrooms with king sized beds and beautiful views of vineyards and mountains.
- Breakfast nook and big living room where we spent most of our time.
- Has formal dining room for 8 people (didn't use this time).
- Cozy family room became nice sleeping area for the 5th family (we've expected this and brought some bedding staffs for the nights).
- Whole house was warm with perfect heating settings (we've visited in middle of April).
- Outside BBQ area is a place to gather to spend in warm evening grilling our favorites and sip drinks. (could stay until around 9pm, then air temp dropped significantly which we've came in)
- Views views views! and sooo quiet throughout the day.
- Complete kitchen with high-end appliances worked perfectly.
- Internet worked perfectly while it is a bit slow - which is understandable.
Cons, no serious issues at all:
- the 4th bedroom with a queen bed is not actually for a guest at this point (Apr 2018) - BIG gap from the other bedrooms. So you may want to consider there's only three bedrooms.
- drainage of guest shower was a bit slow.
Note as it is stated by owner this is not a smaller kids friendly place since there's several things that you may not want them to touch and break. You may end up chasing them around and exhausted :)
The gate to the house does not have house number. You may find a red corn.
Thank you Roy for your kind hospitality while I could not meet you at this time.
Together with the wonderful spring weather, we truly enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful stay at Villa Monticello and Villa Roma
My whole family, 11 of us, spent the weekend at both the luxurious Villa Monticello and lovely Villa Roma. We were all in awe of our majestic surroundings. The former Villa has absolutely everything available that one could desire and accommodates a large gathering beautifully. It is very secluded and quite a bit of a way from St. Helena, so you should take all of the needed food and supplies with you but it is well worth the trip. Once there, you won't want to leave and the beds were fantastic, I might add. The host/owner is most helpful and so gracious. I highly recommend these Villa's, as they were like a dream to us!

Not what we expected!
Let me start by saying that if you want to be near Napa Valley, this is NOT the place to stay. It takes about 20-25 minutes to get back to St. Helena and the drive is up one side of Howell Mountain and down the other into the next valley. It is a pretty hairy drive especially at night. We even had trouble finding a driver willing to come get us. The house is nice. There is one big master bedroom and two much smaller ones that share a small bathroom. We had some water issues and actually had no water the day we left. This is the first time I have been disappointed renting thru VRBO.

We are very sorry for the guest's inconvenience for not having water on the last day of their stay.
However the maid came at 11:00 am the same day after the guests left and there was no problem with the water issue. So we are perplexed about that as we have never had that problem before. Even before receiving this review I called the guest to apologize for this problem and to offer a one night's stay at our downtown St Helena accommodation. Villa Monticello is secluded like our ad says. I always state when renting Villa Monticello that it is 15 miles from downtown St Helena and is wonderful if you are looking for seclusion. There are many comments from other guests that enjoy the seclusion that 27 acres offers. Our guests often hire a driver or call Uber and have not had problems doing so in the past. Again, we would like to apologize for his inconvenience and our offer to compensate with a night in St Helena lodging is still available.

Charming Estate with Amazing Outdoor Kitchen
A beautiful property with all the bells and whistles! Amazing outdoor patio with outdoor kitchen, brick pizza oven, outdoor fireplace. Grapevine covered arbor over the patio was full of ripe table grape bunches! The owner could not have been more hospitable. Expansive master suite. Very secluded. It was so pleasant being there and dining there, that we cancelled some dining reservations so that we could enjoy the patio and the beautiful views.

Romantic getaway
The Villa was everything we expected and more. Beautiful drive up appeal, spectacular views, beautifully furnished and very secluded. Hot air balloons were flying 4 of the mornings we were there so while we drank our coffee and enjoyed the view, we watched the balloons fly across the landscape. We will definitely return for another vacation to this property. It is an experience we will never forget and enjoyed every minute of it. The owner was very personable and made sure we had everything we needed and did some follow up calls to make sure everything was going well. The outdoor patio with views, kitchen and fireplace were used everyday and night.....Simply Beautiful!!!!!

Tuscan Delight!!!
What a glorious weekend we spent at Villa Monticello!! Our 3-night stay in the middle of June was a Christmas present from our sons. They couldn't have found a more elegant or more comfortable place for the four of us to spend the weekend. The villa is absolutely stunning!! Each room is beautifully appointed with Tuscan-style furnishings. We lived in and enjoyed every square inch of every room. It was simply fun to tour each room to discover its treasures. Another treasure was the terrace off the living room with the outdoor kitchen. We used the barbecue each evening to prepare dinner. And, the view from the terrace was awesome! The sweeping vineyards, mountains, and valleys were breathtakingly beautiful. One morning my husband was standing on the terrace outside our bedroom suite when he saw five hot-air balloons hanging in the air over the vineyards. It was a sight he'll never forget. He came to get me, but when we returned to the terrace, the balloons had drifted away. We spent the weekend relaxing, enjoying each other's company, celebrating my birthday and Father's Day, consuming delicious meals, and visiting a number of wineries in St. Helena. It was absolutely wonderful!!!

Shangri-La
It is my pleasure to share a positive review of this property. There was a group of 3 couples and we had very big expectations for our time in the Napa area. The Villa was everything it was advertised and more. We spent most of our time in the beautiful outside patio/kitchen and we took full advantage of the fireplace, candles, chandeliers, music, oven, BBQ and that view...what a view! There was not a nook or cranny in the place where you could not enjoy the beauty of the area. We felt a million miles away but yet we could get into town within 20 minutes. We also enjoyed the formal dining room, the Great Room, the kitchen and, of course, the master suite complete with sunken tub. Luxury abounded. Roy had everything we needed to enjoy our wining, dining, Bocce playing, lounging and resting weekend. i recommend it highly!

An unforgettable stay in a true Tuscan villa!
We stayed in Roy's villa for a weekend with an extended family to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday.
When we walked in, the place simply took our breath away. Every step around the property revealed a new special view, a tasteful decor, a grand piano from Vienna, patios and roses, horses running free and peacefully below in the fields. The place permeated with a sense of leisure, peace, and romance.
We cooked our meals in the kitchens, one inside, one outside on a patio with a pizza oven, we ate outside on a patio to the sound of the bubbling water from the fountain, we sat by the fire place in the evening, we took our walks through the fields and along the pastures. And, one evening we went to St. Helena for an unforgettable dinner, only a 20 minute ride.
The place is reminiscent of Tuscany, and a wonderful host, Roy, explained his family's Italian roots and the reason he built the house in the Tuscan style. It was so good to be taken care by Roy, he thoughtfully prepared for our stay and and made our stay very special.
Do I want to come back? Certamento!!!

Beautiful house on a very private lot with everything you need!
Just stayed with a group of friends at this beautiful home. Homeowner personally showed us around the property, three well appointed bedrooms, comfy beds and very clean/well kept. House was large enough for the 6 of us to spread out with formal and informal spaces downstairs and amazing outdoor spaces! Outdoor fireplace and pizza oven and comfy outdoor furniture. The photos don't do the views from the home justice! It is a bit off the beaten path but only about 35min by car to most wineries, we just started at the farthest and worked our way back! We had a blast!

An amazing wine country escape!
We just spent three amazing days/nights with some friends at Villa Monticello to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Let me just say that the pictures do not do this property justice! The views are absolutely breathtaking, the house is so luxurious with all the amenities one would hope for. We were hoping to prepare several gourmet meals during our stay and were able to do just that in the incredible kitchen stocked with amazing cookware, Viking range, and all the odds and ends needed from spices to saran wrap. The outside living space (with super comfy couches and chairs) was truly incredible and we spent most waking hours outside taking in the scenery or playing bocce ball. The pizza oven was so much fun to use as well. The house itself is truly beautiful. The rooms are were so well appointed that we felt that we are at a 5 star resort. I was originally concerned with being too far away from St. Helena, but actually it worked out perfectly to just spend the day wine tasting and site seeing and then come back to our extraordinary heavenly palace in the evening. It truly feels like luxurious living in the middle of Tuscany. To top it all off, the owner, was an absolute joy to work with. He anticipated all of our needs (even bought additional bakeware for us) and personally showed us around the property. We can’t wait to come back!!!
