About this property
Birds and Bears - In Town - On The River w/Fishing Spot - Large Parties - Pet Fr
Fish right off the 80' back porch if you have a good casting arm. Surrounded by quaking aspens and conifers, this spacious, custom-decorated luxury home sleeps 16 in individually themed rooms. The upstairs features an open loft for kids or singles in 4 twin beds (one is a trundle) with decor that showcases mother bears and cute cubs. The large wolf room, also upstairs, sleeps 2 in a king bed. The third upstairs bedroom, located over the garage, sleeps 4 -- two in a new king bed and 2 in a queen sleeper. This huge room, with its own special amenities, includes a sitting area, a moveable privacy screen, 2 large closets, and a gas log fireplace; while the decor focuses on bears and other wildlife. All 3 upstairs bedrooms overlook the river directly below. A 4th bedroom downstairs sleeps 4 in a king bed and queen sleeper; the decor features a Pendleton Indian blanket spread with outdoor scenes and a collection of crosses over the headboard. All three bedrooms provide flat-screen tvs with DirecTV. The loft also has a TV suitable for hooking up game consoles. Downstairs you will find a well-stocked kitchen (including spices), dining area, large family room with Indian decor surrounding the wood-burning fireplace, queen sleeper sofa, recliner, TV, stereo system, vaulted ceiling, and a large bookshelf full of books and cute knick-knacks. A front sun porch with floor to ceiling windows provides the perfect place to watch the birds and other wildlife. The banquet-sized back porch not only hosts a large charcoal grill but also two long picnic tables, a round glass-topped table, a swing, bird feeders (bring your own birdseed!), and a wood rack. A small yard off the elevated porch gives you access to the river which has just been cleaned up and stabilized thanks to a grant from the state and the city. Other special amenities for you to enjoy include a Jacuzzi tub featuring a rain shower head, a full-sized laundry room with washer, dryer, and storage shelves, and a vacant lot next door where kids can use up their excess energy. Open the windows to enjoy the fresh clean mountain air and the sounds of the river as you drift off to sleep on luxury linens. Please see notes for suggestions on what to bring on your Red River Vacation to make your stay more comfortable! If BBR is rented during your preferred vacation time or you need to sleep more people, check out the other homes by the same owner: The Villa or Running Bear River Lodge. $75 per pet/2 pet max, charged separately by the property management company after booking.

About the host
Hosted by Red River Real Estate
I love to travel and see the world, but when it gets really hot in Texas, it is time to go to the mountains. Although I have visited all 7 continents, there is something about Red River that has captured my imagination. Perhaps it is the friendly town. Perhaps the cool mountain air and stunning views. Perhaps it is my encounters with wildlife: deer, elk, bear, wild turkey, squirrels, birds, you name it. Perhaps it is finding out that my great great grandfather visited here during the mining heyday and invested in the community. Perhaps it is the wealth of history and the charm of an old mining town that has reinvented itself. Now that I'm retired, I like to bring my 3 dogs for a month in the summer where we hike together and explore together in my 4WD. I find the peaceful atmosphere conducive to writing the book I'm working on. I hope you will enjoy my townhouses as much as I've enjoyed decorating them and sharing them with other travelers.
Why they chose this property
A friend invited me to visit her townhouse when I was going through a tough period in my life. I fell in love with the friendly town, the wildlife, the mountains and cool summer weather. Since it is only 10 hours from my home, I decided it was time to buy a place and explore further. Every time I come, I find something new to see or do. I recently found out about my great great grandfather's experience here by buying an old newspaper in one of the gift shops. I suppose I have a genetic connection to this place!
What makes this property unique
Words cannot adequately describe the feeling of sitting on the balcony with a cup of hot chocolate, watching the sun turn the mountains from gray to pink to glowing red. For the early riser, one might see bears wandering through the nearby creek on their way to the river or deer munching on the bushes. On the other hand, if you are a nightlife person, the two local bars provide great live music and are a short two blocks away.
